OhareFred reacted to Tig in 2012 journey electrical problem FIXED
Ok so I’ve been working on my step daughters journey, it started out that she took it to 2 shops, they replaced the battery, then the alternator. After several hundred dollars, the car still had the same issues, the car would act like a dead battery, hook up a jump pack it would start, only to die when the pack was disconnected. I got the car from her and reading several forums on line I found that this issue comes up a few times. So after doing a ton of testing with a multimeter, I found that it PASSED every test! So I started doing some old fashion wire tracing, and come to find out the cause of the whole problem was the power cable from the battery to the fuse block where the factory terminal connected to the cable was damaged inside the jacket! It wasn’t easy to spot because the factory connection has some sort of sealant on it (probably to prevent moisture from getting inside) so I replaced the cable with a new off the shelf universal one from Napa, and ta-da problem solved!

OhareFred got a reaction from Locosiete in 2918 Journey lift kit
Curious why you want to lift it. I have 19” wheels already, not sure a bigger tire would fit in the opening. If you are thinking off road I think you have the wrong vehicle. If it’s just for looks I think you might have to be inventive. Please don’t take this wrong, it’s your car make it your own, and if lifting it does that go for it,, but you might have problems getting parts....
Someone here put an air bag suspension in to lower it, maybe you can do similar to raise it?

The 2918 shouldn’t be lifted because it’s already a hover car I’m guessing. ?

OhareFred reacted to ProtoMD in Screen glitched, fully dead electrical
To clarify, we bought used from another dealership and paid cash in full.
No financing.
The dealership we bought from we bought from claimed to had done a full inspection and was unaware of the GPS and did not install it. They would not uninstall it as warranty.
The Dodge dealership we took it to for service called us about 5 or 6 minutes after we dropped it off having found it and confirmed what it was.
We'll get the car back later today, without a GPS tracker.

Please make a youtube channel where you just do crazy mechanics stuff. It might pay for itself (or offset some costs) with ad revenue.
Sounds fun, and don't let the debbie-downers like myself talk to you out of it.
Outside of the obvious difficult things, like making a new transmission tunnels ( solved with lots of cutting and creative liberties while welding it back together...)...
the DJ Pentastar is Transversely mounted, and the Engine bay isn't very deep. I know it's deeper than some minivans, but I'd be curious how the 5.7 would fit seeing as from the outside it appears the DJ's engine bay is about 6" shorter than the Charger. BUT these are the issues which cause no one to take on such a challenge. BE creative and prove me wrong.. Can't wait to see progress!

OhareFred reacted to 5rebel9 in Power loss on 2.0crdi r/t
Sorry for your predicament over there "across the pond". But that motor was not an option here in the "colonies". I've read on other forums of this problem with these diesel motors, and the 2 main faults that seem to happen is the boost pipe cracking or EGR valve fouling. IF mine, I'd start looking there.
GOOD LUCK!

OhareFred reacted to Hemijourney in Hemi swap
Here’s a quick list I got so far.
hemi 5.7 out of a Dodge Charger with awd system
complete wiring harness for the charger
Charger unlocked flashed ecu and tune
custom made driveshaft and cv axles
charger rear end
Airbag system so the suspension can hold the added weight and be able to be lowered for track use
much much wider tires and rims
fuel lines and pump from charger
brembo brakes
borla header back
I have access to cutter torches hoists and a bunch of insane mechanics so this might not be a problem. I know I missing many more thing but I’ll go more into detail as I go along with the project

Alternator was checked by mechanic that had said the previous battery tested fine. find a new better qualified mechanic, as he missed a bad battery, start checking for a bad alt or electrical draw while park

OhareFred got a reaction from 2late4u in Screen glitched, fully dead electrical
If your battery is at 3.15 volts after being on a charger it’s dead. Don’t care how old it is, it’s dead. Can you get it tested with an electronic tester and get a print out of the results? Battery health, charge state, voltage, etc. You need a replacement battery, then to figure out when it keeps going dead. You have a draw somewhere and it’s killing your battery.

OhareFred reacted to 2late4u in 16' Dodge Journey radio
well sounds like the new one is NOT working or maybe you bent a pin in the connector or didnt get it properly connected also no mention what was wrong with the old screen for you to have to replace it. recheck your install to make sure it is NOT your mistake. No way for us to know what is wrong without more info..,.where did you buy the replacement screen? call them after checking your install and see what they suggest on returning it for a good one,,,,good luck and report back on what you find out

Hard enough just to swap the 8.4 from a Journey to a 4.3" equipped one.
The Cherokee radio is not and never was the same as the one we have . . . so no.

OhareFred got a reaction from larryl in Passenger seat to high
The only storage in the seat is on the passenger side. Didn’t you try it before you bought it? It’s not just the base that would need to be changed, the entire seat would have to be swapped out for one without the under seat storage. Never heard this complaint before.

first off you didnt say this to begin with, you just stated your problem then blamed dodge for it. I wasnt trying to be rude, i offered some solutions to your problem as well

OhareFred reacted to Shawn855 in Turns on by itself
So I was having this issue last summer. And I ended up having unrelated battery parasitic draw issues this past winter which required me to pull some fuses until I figured out the issue.
Regardless, one of the fuses I ended up pulling was for the HVAC. Front and rear. This wasn't the issue, however I noticed since pulling and reseating those fuses, my climate stopped randomly turning on. Could be a coincidence but just posting it here in case it helps.

OhareFred got a reaction from larryl in Towing a Jon boat?
Im pretty sure you should be able to tow a Jon boat with a Journey. Hell, you could probably tow one with a ten speed bike! What you have to consider are how often, how far, how much total weight. Getting a hitch installed is no big deal (search the forum, multiple discussions). How you drive with it is.

OhareFred reacted to Joshben in Towing a Jon boat?
Man i think boat with or over 500lbs should be tow by expert boat haulers. When it comes to the owner’s manual of your boat, the dry weight of your boat will be listed without taking fuel and gear into account. This means that you might underestimate the towing capabilities that you need in order to safely and securely transport your boat.
