  1. Electric power steering is not used on the Journey. It is a hydraulic pump. The service manager may be confusing the system with that of the Cherokee. The 3.2 V6 Cherokee uses electric power steering. The Grand Cherokee 3.6 uses an electro-hydraulic system (electric pump which is not belt driven) .The Journey 3.6 uses a conventional belt driven pump. My engine makes a lower pitched moaning sound on cold starts. Does not have to be cold ambient temps, just a cold engine. This sound is common to the 3.6 and is more prevalent on transverse applications such as the Journey and the minivans. Applications where the engine is longitudinal make less noise for some reason. Not sure which accessory is responsible.
  2. A battery disconnect should be done at the negative battery post as opposed to the jump start post. I tried to reboot a radio in a Grand Cherokee at the jump start post and it didn't work. Unhooked it from the battery and it did the trick. There is still live power on the bus cable unless you disconnect from the battery. It's a pain in the butt on the Journey but it's the only sure way to kill the voltage completely.
  3. In the United States the warranty on the left cylinder head is 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Are you sure it's out? It's no trouble for me to check.
  4. Which engine? If you have the 3.6 V6. the left cylinder head might require replacement. There is a warranty extension on the left cylinder head should it require replacement. I'll need the last eight digits of your VIN and the mileage/kilometers and I can check coverage for you.

    Back!

Yes, my 300M is plugged in as we speak. Lord knows why I didn't order the block heater on the Journey - must've had a brain fart but honestly we don't see temps like this very often.

    Back!

Welcome home. It's a balmy 9 degrees here now! And Watertown, NY recorded the lowest temp in the Lower 48 States today @ -37 degrees F.
  7. Very good question and one that has never been asked of me. So, I did some research on the Chrysler side and came up with nothing. I wrote to Service Technical Assisance Resources (STAR) and now await their response. May not be until Tuesday since Monday is a holiday.
  8. We've never done the swap at my shop, but the STAR case from Chrysler clearly states to reconfigure the vehicle after the code is added. Otherwise, the car does not know the feature is there. I know that when we added trailer tow wiring to my own Journey after I bought it, the trailer lights did not work until we added the sales code for trailer wiring and then reconfigured the car - then they worked.
  9. Hi - yes I'm still monitoring this thread. Sorry about the PM, I don't know why some people are not able to send them. I checked your VIN but neither code is currently available for me to add. Went through this once before late in 2014/early 2015 so stay tuned, I may be able to do it in the future if corporate puts the sales codes back.
  10. Regular rotation is very important to extending the life of most tires. Our Journey has the 19" Kumhos. They have been rotated every 10K miles. We have over 52,000 miles on the car now and I'm ready to replace them. They are not bald, but down to about 3/32" all the way around. I have another set at my shop ready to be installed.
  11. That's the easier part. The recall also involves removing the wiper cowl to gain access to the ABS module. The harness connector there has to be inspected and dielectric grease applied if there is no corrosion present at it.
  12. The recall procedure and parts availability were recently updated and are now available for people to schedule. We did one so far and it took about an hour and a half to do.
  13. What I meant was don't schedule an appointment yet to have the recall work done - there are no parts avaialble yet or any technician instructions posted yet for the repair procedure. However, if your Journey has an ABS light on, you can schedule it for repair, since it could be on for a wide variety of reasons besides recall-related ones. Once the recall parts and procedures become available, a follow-up recall letter will be sent to you, at which point you may then schedule an appointment to have the recall work done.
  14. There is no need to go to your dealer unless you have an ABS light on. The recall campaign itself has not yet been initiated; only the interim notices have been sent advising you that there will be a recall.
  15. There is no issue with towing a FWD car on its rear wheels. ON a FWD Journey, the rear wheels have absolutely no connection to the drivetrain, so as long as the front wheels are not turning while towing, then it is safe.
  16. The latch mechanisms are cable-actuated by the release levers. The cable may not be acting on the latch or the latch itself may be stuck. Your dealer will repair this under warranty.
  17. I have not. However, your issue sounds more to me like an intermittent ABS wheel speed sensor. If there is a loss if signal from one or more wheel speed sensors, it will trigger an ABS light which will go off once the sensor begins to read the wheel speed again. There should be a stored fault code in the ABS module. If the car is scanned with the light on it will tell what area the problem lies In.
  18. Not all vehicles in the prescribed range (2012-2015) will be recalled. Some vehicles presumeably use a different ground wire eyelet or the ground point is different.
  19. Recall R61 was just announced on Dec. 7. This is a copy of the interim letter sent to owners of affected Journeys. 20. We love ours - 2013 Crew with all options except DVD. Our kids are 13 and 17 and we're never wanting for more space. Exceptional ride and handling, quiet, powerful and economical - 24 MPG combined average most of the year, drops a few when it's really cold. I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to. 50,000 miles, only defect was the radio (common). Survived a major accident with no injuries to my wife and the car still drives perfectly.
  21. Welcome to the forum! Nice car
