  1. Are you certain that it is the beauty cover getting wet and not the cowl at the base of the windshield? There shouldn't be any water on the engine after a wash. Also, there aren't any ignition cables. The coils sit directly on the plugs.
  2. Your assumption is probably correct. It's too early to tell how many vehicles are involved at this point. Once the recall is officially launched by FCA then there will be a figure published for the number of vehicles involved. Everyone who is included in the recall will be notified.
  3. Yes it is. The converter on the 2.4 is on the back of the engine behind the beauty cover. The cover could become dislodged from its mounting point and rest on the converter which could melt the plastic. Feel free to remove the beauty cover and store it until the recall is announced if you are concerned about potential danger outlined in the recall, or if yours feels like it will not stay on securely. The cover performs no critical function to the operation of the engine; it is simply a dress-up item.
  4. This is an advance communication to the dealers - the recall itself is not out yet so hold off on calling your dealer for an appointment just yet. If you own a 2.4 litre Journey, then watch your mailbox for a notice in the future. _____________________________________________________________________ 07/02/2015 New Safety Recall Advanced Communication – R32070215 FCA US LLC announced a safety recall on certain 2011 through 2015 model year (JC) Dodge Journey vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine. Some of the above vehicles may have engine beauty covers that could detach from the engine and come in contact with the catalytic converter. If the engine beauty cover remains in contact with the catalytic converter, underhood smoke and/or a fire may occur without warning. FCA will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all involved vehicles to install a revised engine beauty cover mounting system. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established methods used in the past. We ask that you please take the time to ensure that your personnel are aware of this communication and are prepared to execute a customer friendly process for inquiries on involved vehicles. 5. You'll be fine. Mine was hit even harder in the front and it's perfect again.
  6. We have a 2013 and love it. We have 40,000 miles on it now and the only factory defect was in the radio. The unit worked perfectly but the navigation map became corrupted and the only way to correct it was to replace the radio - a warranty repair. It is as smooth and silent as it was on day one. 2013's received the larger brakes which makes a huge difference in wear and reduced vibration. Ours has been hit three times - one was a major collision - and yet the car continues to be flawless. Very, very happy with it. I work for a dealer and Journeys have been very reliable from 2011 and up. Fewest recalls of anything in our lineup, too. Good idea to get a Maximum Care Service Contract from Chrysler, though - even though the car has been great, all it takes is one major failure to recoup the cost of a good service contract. Those radios, for instance...$$$$!
  7. My Journey was hit three times in a year and a half. The paint matches perfectly and it's Copper Pearl which is very tough to match. A reputable bodyshop will get it right.
  8. That is exactly how I describe my Journey to people when asked about it (so many still do not know what a Journey is - unless you live in Canada!) Anyway, it;s great to read about your positive experiences. I feel pretty certain that you will still feel this way later on down the road. Two years and 40K miles later, I sure do. Last week we drove 600 miles in one day for our son's baseball state semi-finals, and I was so glad to be making the trip in this car. Super comfortable, 28.1 MPG, smooth and silent. We love the car and it is the perfect fit for my family of four.
  9. I was surprised that your claim was denied the first time around. I'm pretty certain that it was never submitted. We receive near-instant approvals on paint work almost anytime we submit them - on vehicles that are much older than yours, I might add. The only denials that we've received are the ones where it is obvious that the sheetmetal was damaged as opposed to an outright defect. Keep us posted.
  10. Mine does too. Even when the fuel light comes on (and I rarely let it get to that point) It never takes more than 16-17 gallons (my tank is 20.5, FWD tanks are smaller) and it only takes that much if I sit there and top it off repeatedly. And my gauge only goes past full if I top it. My 300M also reads a bit on the low side, too. It'll only take about 14 gallons (Tank is 17) when the light is on. I prefer it to be this way, honestly. You're never really in danger of running out because the gauge gets you to fill it up a little sooner than absolutely necessary. Not a bad thing, IMO.
  11. How about that SRT8 Challenger lurking behind the 'Vette?
  12. I have a small, detatched one-car garage which houses my wife's 49,000 mile 1988 RX-7 GXL 5-speed: In the driveway alongside DJ is my trusty, 301,000 mile 2000 300M: Soon to be joining it - if he passes his road test this summer - is my semi-retired 1999 300M with 140K miles which we have given to my 17-year old son: ...and down the street, on a mooring off of the beach, our 1989 Concord LS-7 with a 200 Merc:
  13. For anyone concerned about the crash test ratings: First of all, if you crash the exact same car two times at the same rate of speed in the same fashion, the results will be different each time. This has been proven countless times over the years with many different vehicle makes and models. Second, my wife sustained a major front-corner hit with absolutely no injury:
  14. For what it's worth, neither my original nor my replacement 8.4N radio displays a volume number higher than 38. Not saying you're wrong - could be software related - but 38 is the max number that I've ever seen on either one.
  15. The 3.6 has this noise, it is most pronounced in the minivans and the Journeys where the engine is transverse. In the Jeeps and Durangos it is not as noticeable. Goes away after running a couple of minutes. When I (or Chrysler) can determine what the cause is, I will post the repair. MIne has 38,000 miles on it and the sound has not affected anything. On your radio - go to "Audio" and select "Speed Adjusted Volume" in the menu. Set it for level 3 and you'll find that the volume is much louder while driving. The numbers do not go past 38 but the level will be louder on 38 than it is when Speed Adjusted Volume is turned off, as long as you're moving.
  16. $250.00 is robbery, plain and simple. A half-hour labor is the most that anyone should pay, and it takes maybe half that time but most dealers have a minimum labor charge. DO NOT pay $250.00 for a reconfiguration please!!
  17. I happen to like Deep Cherry Red Pearlcoat - not boring at all. Copper Pearl is a love or hate color, IMO. My wife and I love it - as do several members of our forum as well - and at least in my area, it is very unique - we have the only one in town. Maybe that's why...the rest of my town must think it's hideous! Oh well...they don't make the payments!
  18. Today is our two year anniversary with our Journey. Despite the fact that it's been hit three times (one of those was a major collision) the car continues to impress me and our family. The only defect was the radio, which in itself was not faulty but there was a problem with the navigation maps not loading (something which I've seen in a few other Chrysler radios and has been reported here by other Journey owners). Other than that, the car has been problem-free even after sustaining $11,000 worth of front-end damage. I'm still on original tires ( the front brakes were replaced after the accident but were not even close to worn) and the car is silent, smooth and vibration-free after 37,000-plus miles. 24 MPG average overall; we were averaging 27-28 MPG @ 70 MPH on our recent whirlwind college tour last month with all four of us in the car and our stuff. Here's a couple of pictures on day one at my dealership - two years ago today!
  19. Wish I had a comfy garage. I have a small detached garage that my wife's vintage RX-7 stays in . If I had a garage to keep my cars in, I would probably have half the posts on this forum that I do because I'd be in there detailing like every night!
  20. Hockeypuck's got 'em: http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/gallery/album/224-hockeypucks-2014-limited/
  21. The folks over at Forbes should tune in to this forum once and a while! We know what we are talking about. And this coming Monday, we'll have ours two years and 37,000 miles. The only problem we've had with it was with the navigation. Everything worked but it wouldn't load the maps (common problem across many Chrysler nav systems) which necessitated replacement of the radio even though every other feature worked perfectly. Even after a major collision it still performs flawlessly.
  22. I have Lifetime Maximum Care on my 2013 Journey, and I work for a dealer. Even though I pay less for repairs than most, even dealer cost on some big-ticket items is pretty expensive. That touch screen radio, for instance. I recommend it highly, especially if you plan to keep your car a long time. I still have my last new car, a 2000 300M with 300,000 miles on it - which would still be covered by this plan if it were available at the time.
  23. Make sure you reset your fuel economy average when you fill the tank. The 437 mile value is based upon that 30.8 MPG average. The pic is sort of misleading. I reset it at my last fuel fill about 15 miles prior to the photo, and drove without having to stop at about 45 mph so yes, the economy number would be artificially high at that point. In the warm weather months we average about 24 MPG per tank. I reset it after every fill up. If you had a problem with the with the fuel pump module/level sensor assembly, it would illuminate the check engine light. If it is not on, then your system is working normally.
  24. I added the sales code for you. Return the car to your dealer for a reconfiguration and they will work when enabled on your menu screen. Remember, the car has to be in gear before the DRL turn on. When you shift into Park they go off regardless of the menu setting.
