With all of the people that bitch about their dealers, it is nice to see the other side once in a while. Sounds like they are doing your right. I have 2 dealers in my neck of the woods that are very much the same way. Keep us updated.

In late 2012 FCA started using bigger rotors and calipers on the Journey. This was a response to complaints that the brakes were too small and would warp - interesting enough the factory brakes on my 2011 Journey were still good when I traded it at 54,000 miles - so it is likely partially a driver thing and the luck of the draw.

Note that you would need to change the rotors, calipers and brakes to upgrade. If you have 16 inch wheels you will also need to change them and the tires that are on them.

There is a post somewhere on the board, complete with photos of the conversion.

You could have the transmission reflashed to bring it back to factory specs. Then you drive it for a while and it will "learn" your driving style.

Have the spark plugs been changed? They should've been changed out at 100,000 miles.

aukfan33 reacted to Superbee in 3.6L Pentastar Misfire in 2014 Journey
    Hello All!
This is my first post. I own a 2014 Journey Crossroad with 43k kms on it to date. Last week I experienced rough idling and a few minutes after I noticed this, the engine light came on (solid, not blinking). Took it to the dealer and sure enough it's the same problem that has plagued so many Pentastars since 2012: cylinder #4 misfire due to left cylinder head failure. The part had to be ordered in from Montreal so it couldn't be immediately fixed.
I noticed that there is a post about an FCA letter that went out to owners in 2014 about this issue, but it only addresses the 2011-2013 model years. So I'm curious if this issue is still prevalent with the 2014/2015 model years or if my issue is just bad luck. You would think Dodge would have addressed this manufacturing issue long ago since they sent a letter out about it in 2014.
My appointment is this week to have the head replaced, so no biggie and the dealership gave me no hassles. From the sounds of it, once the head is replaced there are no more issues and it runs like new. I certainly hope so.
I encourage everyone who has a Pentastar engine, no matter the year, to have any rough idling looked into, and please post if you have a similar issue.
    Cheers!

You may need a software update for the radio as well... worth looking into.

Do not use liquid electrical tape!!! I used it once and it fried my wiring system on my bike. It soaks into the exposed wire splices and creates a ton of added resistance. Shrink tubes or normal electrical tape is best.

    Generally no.

But if you don't have automatic air conditioning you will need to replace the temperature sensor module and what is called the lower stack (the controls for the air conditioning - you need the one with the 'auto' button. If you don't have a SiriusXM radio and want that or Navigation you will need to install the antenna assembly. If you don't have Bluetooth you still won't have it.

They are telling you that they won't install it and that they will not take the time to do any work that is not detailed in there shop procedures... It IS possible. Expensive...but possible.

Try disconnecting the battery for a bit. Reset everything. Is your battery still good? Weak batteries cause all kinds of weird issues.

Yup, this happened to me while luckily still under warranty so when it happened a second time out of warranty they had a record of the previous failure. It also helped tremendously that this message board exists and that folks with corporate troll these boards and are willing to step up and make it right. I agree that the real fix may be to replace the failing units with new head units but so far (knock on wood) the refurb I had installed is working well. Time will tell.

It is (or was, assuming that the latest firmware solves the problem, especially if your vehicle is out of the base warranty term).

But the problem is a lot less pervasive than looking at this board would imply - it affected only a tiny percentage of owners - though that 'tiny percentage' actually involves a fairly large number of vehicles in total, and based on what I'm seeing, whatever the trigger is, without the fix those owners are subject to the problem recurring, no doubt helped by the act that the radios that FCA are replacing failed units with ones that have already failed and were simply reloaded, the situation is ripe for those owners' units to fail again.

But those are the people that seek out information from sites like this so we tend to see more people with the issue complaining here.

And, if/when this problem occurs on a vehicle that is outside of it's basic warranty, it will cost the owner lots of money to repair, which is why I'd like to get hold of a failed unit to try fixing it myself.

The shuddering would indicate warped rotors. Have they ever been turned? Depending on how much metal was removed on the lathe, you may be able to turn them again, and not have to replace them.

The Alpines that I purchased at Best Buy were 4 6x9s - one for each door. No mounting issues at all. This is the first time that I have heard of Crutchfield giving out bad info. I put a set of Alpine tweeters, with built in x-overs, in the dash.
I have a long thread on what I did for my sound system.

The last two letters in the part number are the version, which is less important with this radio than it is with the Nav version.

To make things simpler I've simply linked to the part page for a random (2013-SXT) product page radio.

Keys are that the radio MODEL is REB. And it can come from a Journey, 300 or Charger with the same model radio - but NOT from a Dart, which uses the same nomenclature, but is not compatible.

I also couldn't find a write up on transmission removal, and replacement. I wanted to know if there were any tips, or what to expect. Did one a few weeks ago on a dj. I'll be doing a write up for the forum. This is a very helpful forum, if used right. The more people that post info, the better.

With a recall or CSN, it would be performed then marked as completed for your VIN. So, crossroadjohn, it would be a one-time replacement (if necessary). With that being said, if you have this completed and have issues down the road that you think may be related to R65, we do have a recall reimbursement request process setup through Mopar Owner Connect. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You can read more about that here: https://www.moparownerconnect.com/OC/US/en-US/sub/Pages/RecallsReimbursement.aspx
