Be careful with that;  The warranty starts with the 'in service' date, which may differ from that of the first registration.  My nephew just learned the hard way, when he had an expensive failure on his DJ, which was purchased used which he was expecting to be covered by the warranty, but it seems that the in-service date was 6 months earlier than the date of the first sale to the original owner.

To know for certain, contact FCA and ask.

That's because you are North America, where they use US measure in the United States and Metric in Canada - why would you want English Measure?  No one uses that for fuel any more, not even the Brits.

You can still purchase an extended factory bumper to bumper warranty.  Buy it from an online discounter and don't bring it in until a few days or weeks have passed

I've been screwed by 2 aftermarket warranty providers, one of which was the one recommended unequivocally by the CAA (Canadian equivalent of AAA) . . . . well, they tried.  but I am litigious and took them both to court and won both times.

But it just isn't worth the trouble, so I buy OEM now.

The Journey (any year and all models) can take 17" and larger wheels.  Older Journeys (the ones with the smaller brakes) can also take 16" wheels.

The tire size is obviously impacted, because for any wheel size, the width and circumference of the tires needs to conform to what the vehicle can handle.

So, like many among us I have 17" steel wheels with my 225/65/17 snow tires mounted on them and the original 19" wheels with (in my case) a set of 225/55/19 Bridgestone ECOPIA H/L 422 PLUS installed.

Those sizes are what FCA delivers with the vehicles.

They diameter of the tires is close enough that there is minimal impact on speedometer and odometer accuracy.  Ride height is pretty much the same, too.

Better than the SRT menu, from what I saw in the video, you can use this to enable your DRLs, something dealers can't do.  Not only that, but apparently you can even control how bright they are . . . . .

Since the bumper to bumper warranty is 60,000 km your mileage is not the factor.  Time is.

Has the R65 recall been done on your vehicle?  It wouldn't matter whether it had been or not if you lived in Quebec - this is a design defect, so there should be no time limit. But there was a recall for this and if it hasn't been done on your vehicle, then there should be no cost . . . . and if it WAS done, it was ineffective and  they should step up.

I would reach out to Chrysler Canada, because your dealer is an ass if he didn't.  You may be able to get them to do the right thing.

Be also aware that the RF hub is included with the OEM remote starter kit - and that kit comes with 2 key fobs. It still needs to be learned into the vehicle, but if you didn't have remote start you will now - you can usually find the kits on Ebay for about $265 . . . . interesting enough I don't see any there now . . . . .

Hmmmmm - I suspect you may wind up unhappy with one from a wrecked vehicle because they are where the keyfobs information is stored and you can't learn in a used FOB.

I think the dealer may possibly have left something our - IIRC the hub needs to be learned into the system, as well.

First of all you don't 'need a new radio'.  In fact for your $1200 you'd get a refurbished radio that is more likely to fail than the one you have in your vehicle now.  That's because all they do is to reload the maps into a radio that they took back from a vehicle already suffered the problem and ship it out to the dealers to replace the one you have in your dash now.

If I was in your shoes I'd pick up the phone, call Chrysler/FCA customer support and tell them to cover the repair - this is what's known as a 'latent defect' and it has been documented here (and admitted to by them in their R65 recall program) and depending on where you live (your profile says BC) there may not be any legal warranty end date for design defects.

On the other hand, there is a thread on the site that documents how to reload your own maps - with newer ones than FCA would provide in your dash.

Alternatively (and for less money than your dealer wants, and without any taxes, either) I have a spare radio which has not (yet - and I say 'yet' because you never know when it might, if it will at all) lost its mapping.  I bought it as a cold spare in case I was to suffer the problem in my DJ - something that hasn't happened.  I am offering it for what I paid - US$800.  Installation takes about 10 minutes - you will need a security unlock code to mate it to your vehicle - dealers will often provide the code for free or for a trivial amount of money if they aren't complete asses.

bramfrank got a reaction from mechanical-idiot in Rustproofing Question
Well, there is no 'factory rust roofing' beyond whatever standard treatment they may do.  Dealers might offer something, but to do it right requires some expertise.

While a coat of wax provides protection for the paint, what suffers during the winter are the inside body panels and the underbody.  Those require a proper water displacement spray job that is done my opening access holes and coating the surfaces with the protectant.  Unfortunately on the DJ you can't spray the inner surfaces of the rear quarter panels because they are aced with insulation - though those panels seem to survive well enough for the 8 or so years the DJ has been on the road - you don't see rusty DJs out there.

BUT, that doesn't mean that you can't benefit from rustproofing your vehicle. Here in Quebec we have Metropolitan Rustproofing and Krown as the big players.

You would rustproof your vehicle to prevent underbody corrosion and to provide protection for exposed elements of the electrical system.  Rustproofing also provides ome vibration dampening, reducing rattles that may develop to some degree.

However the best time to apply rustproofing is sooner, then if you wish to skip a year or two at least you have the residual protection in place, as oposed to letting 2 or 3 years of corrosion develop, only to cover it in the oil or whatever protectant your company of choice uses.  Don't bother with a simple oil spray - they need to get into those panels to cover the weld points, were water will settle and seep through pinholes in the paint.

My 13 year old LHS looked darn good when it finally died and it was treated in the worst possible way;  driven from a damp, warm garage at home through salty snow and slush to a damp, warm garage at work and then back home at night - ideal rusting conditions.  And the only part of the vehicle that developed any rust at all was at the leading left edge of the roof, above the pillar where water apparently collects and where they don't/can't apply the protectant.

So I suggest getting it done now and not waiting;  it costs about $100 to do it right.

bramfrank got a reaction from mechanical-idiot in Door clunking
A clunk indicates that there is something moving around and banging against something else - grease doesn't fix an adjustment or loose component.  Get the dealer to fix it properly.

The recliner lever doesn't return?  Sounds like a spring.

Squealing brakes when cold?  That's one you might have to live with.  It is often due to the thin rust layer that develops as brakes cool from use in fairly humid clients where temperatures drop at night and especially where the vehicle is parked outdoors - once it is cleared away the brakes tend to quiet down.

Your dealer has to actually DO something for a problem to be resolved - putting grease on a loose component is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Are you in the US?  Or, more importantly, is your vehicle coded as a US vehicle or is it perhaps coded for Canada or some other country?  The RSM code is included in th US destination vehicles, but for some reason, some vehicles don't have it and FCA's software will not allow it to be added.

Travelink is only available in vehicles coded for the US - the radio firmware won't display the option (which is accessed from the '+/more'  touch icon on the lower right of the display) without the RSM sales code.  For other markets that '+' is a 'settings' icon.  No '+'?  No Travelink.
