It's got the 3.6. It was bought new at this dealership and maintained there it's whole life. 20+ years ago I was a GM tech, and I've had GM cars and trucks my whole life because I could do anything to them. Now I'm at the point where I don't want to work on my own vehicles anymore and I believe Chrysler's quality has surpassed that of GM, so I'm willing to try moving to the dark side.

    Thanks for the welcome!

i use this brand, i like them as they are like a carpet fiber and fit the journey front like a glove,,they also come in a plastic or rubber compound for you all that want a weather proof brand,,,,,,,,,also if you have to give them measurements then they are not a very good company........

We’ll folks, finally got with a mechanic who seemed knowledgeable, he said to pull Pos battery cable for 15 minutes, then hook it back up. Run it for a while up and down the highway, after 20 minutes of driving I turned it off and back on, all lights were gone including battery light. Runs perfect! He said with all the senders and everything, after new battery sometimes the system needs to “relearn” everything!! $1300 invested with different mechanics and this is all it was!!!

were the battery post cleaned and tightened properly ? also check the ground in the upper part of the fender, clean it off good and make sure the other grounds on the car as well, ? reason i am saying this as all the symptoms point to a weak or bad battery or lack of a strong current as the electronics go crazy with a bad battery, hopefully some else will chime in with better advice.good luck

How many miles on your 10 year old ride? CLEAN battery cable ends on the battery AND a good clean negative connection at the drivers strut tower stud are a must
    Re check them.
The 2.4 alternator uses a decoupling pulley instead of a solid pulley found on most other vehicles. It is known to wear out with higher miles (about 80k -100k) and will cause lack of charge output. Sounds like it is time for a proper alternator test to be done and POSSIBLY time for a new alternator.

Disconnected the battery for a good while and tried to access the wires you guy mentioned. I couldn't find any wires that looked off. Reconnect the battery and now everything seems to be working normally again. I guess I have to treat my vehicle like I do my desktop computer. Power it right down periodically.

    Thanks for all your help.

Take a look at the rear wiring that goes to the door, there are probably some bad wires that need repairing, I believe that should fix your issue. Kindly let us know if this helps.

If you really want the hemi, move up to a Durango. Trying to put a hemi in a Journey is a task relegated to the custom mod world. It would be extremely expensive in time and money.

Actually, to clarify the above, if the clicking is suddenly abnormally loud, the blend door may be in the early stages of failure. A faint clicking and cycling sound is normal but blend door failure is a common problem on modern vehicles. I have a different vehicle that continued to work for a few months with a short burst of loud clicking before complete failure. At 10 years old,  2 of the 3 failed in short order.
If it is abnormally loud, make sure you know which one it is. Most vehicles have two on the passenger side and one on the driver's side. Left, right, and main. Never done the Journey but, in general, inexpensive and easy to change for the two on the passenger side and a PITA on the driver's side.

Unfortunately the low voltage condition is still there, 10 volts won’t run a car normally.

Try jump starting car, leave cables attatched for 5 mins before trying. Cycle on ignition with cables attached to clear the lightning bolt symbol first. Then try starting with cables still hooked up. Push button is finicky for good voltage feed.

Sitting for a bit with new battery may have drained it, something not switched off. Need that new battery charged up. Bluetooth module is most common parasitic draw over night, pull fuse if you have to temporarily. Fuse box at kick panel on passenger side, lots of links here explaining which fuse to pull if needed.

How many miles on car.  Has it been scanned for codes, often a good starting point.

Might be time to have a shop look at it, guessing gets expensive. Maybe TIPM module . It can be bypassed with a temporary home made harness to prove if it is problem, pricy part to buy. If lightning bolt symbol electronic throttle body can prevent starting, but there should be codes usually. Also a pricy part to buy.

Are the injectors firing, the plugs should be wet with fuel.

A stretched timing chain could prevent starting, not  easy to check.  Need to line up timing marks on crank and cams. Probably codes from this type of problem as well. Not a common issue unless really high mileage.

To my knowledge there were NO RWD Journeys. And the AWD rear differential is not strong enough for adapting the V8 to it. The AWD DJ in any motor combination is a transverse(sideways) mount along with the trans. with a relatively weak power take off mounted to the 62te trans for the AWD.
IF you want more power than the 4 banger supplies, sell/trade off for a 3.6 motor model.

Why not one of the V6 engines? Find a donor car that’s been smashed in the rear. If you’re determined to keep your Journey.

That was a good read. Like the guy, or not, there was a lot of truth in the article. "You know, I could be drinking mai tais with naked supermodels, but instead I’m here with you.” Straight up honesty is always the best way.

After 10 years and 2 extremely reliable Journeys I've traded in the Crossroad and taken delivery of an SUV from an Asian manufacturer.

I'm not deactivating my membership, and I will continue to post answers to questions when I feel it to be appropriate, but I won't be posting any new observations or comparisons between the old and the new vehicles.

I do still have a navigation (RB5) and a regular (RE2) radio sitting on my shelf.  Make offers - I have a lot of money in the RB5, and I know I am not going to get back what I spent, but lowballs will be ignored.

My winter wheels are listed on FB Marketplace in Montreal as well as Kijiji and Varagesale.

When all this is gone there will be nothing in my garage to remind me of my time with the DJ.  But there'll be this forum for the foreseeable future.

    Happy Halloween to everyone.

Summer Solstice reacted to Journeyman425 in Any happy Journey owners out there???
Hi all, it's been a while since I've posted anything here. I am still a very happy Journey owner. Washed and detailed it today and it's sitting in my driveway looking beautiful. Eight years and 140,000 miles, and the car has been superb. We had a major collision late in 2014 at 30K miles when a young driver blew a red light and destroyed the whole front end of the car. It was repaired properly and 110K miles later, the car has had very few issues. The Radio Frequency Hub began intermittently dropping phone connectivity and was replaced. I had a bad temperature door actuator for the rear heater, and the usual P0128 thermostat rationality that affects nearly every 3.6 ever built. The important thing is that the car has never once left my wife stranded anywhere, and it remains quiet, comfortable and economical. It could now use a set of shocks - the body motions are not as controlled as they used to be. I went 110K miles on the original rear brakes. Three years after the last payment, we have no intention to get rid of it anytime soon. She loves the car as do I. My kids are out of the house now but our yellow lab goes everywhere in it with us. If I had to replace it tomorrow, I'd be disappointed that I couldn't buy another new one.

Here's a shot in the driveway from two years ago with the coffin up top getting ready to help move my oldest son home from college.

I think I may have found the issue and wish I would have pulled the lower manifold sooner.... All hardware holding it down was very loose, secured, but loose. The first picture is number 2 cylinder showing blow-by, top left corner of the runner. That whole side of the intake, (2-4-6) has grime and oil between the heads themselves and where they make contact with the gaskets of the lower intake.

and yes, I realize the second picture is 1-3-5. Its mainly there to show how gritty everything was.

As you can see here, not only was the hardware fairly loose but there is no...bounce to the old gaskets and you can see blow-by on all of them. Versus the new gaskets below. I have not decided yet if I should seal them even better with some type of rtv/gasket sealer. I would prefer not to use any unless others have experienced issues if you don't.
