  1. Why don’t you look at a FCA remote start system? No cutting/messing with wires, etc. willl need a trip to the dealer to activate, but maybe you will find the cost for the dealer vs aftermarket won’t be that much. If you go dealer, you get new fobs, not adding a device to your keychain....
  2. Do you want the cheapest option or do you want it to work? Ace hardware, Batteries Plus have fobs, but not sure how reliable it is. Dealer is guaranteed to work, but costs.
  3. Please do not post an identical issue under multiple topics. Won’t get you help any faster and may actually cause confusion.
  4. Perplexing. I know not much help but your not the only one scratching their head. I’d start at the battery, clean and tighten the connections I know it’s a bit of a PIA, but not as bad as changing the plugs. Then check the connections at the power supply box. Maybe swap the starter relay and see what happens.
  5. No, CarPlay cannot be added. They claim you need all new hardware and unless the radio comes with it, you are SOL. Wish it was just an update....
  6. Talk to Crutchfield. They have a module and wire loom kit that keeps your factory stuff. I replaced my radio in my 09 with a Kenwood. I do not have heat controls on the screen (never did) but was able to keep the steering wheel controls, etc. the Kenwood unit has wireless CarPlay, Bluetooth phone (UConnect sucks, no more updates and doesn’t play nice with Apple) so I dumped the UConnect hands free and use the Kenwood system. Works flawlessly, which my wife loves and uses all the time. Chat with them, they know what you need. Make sure you give them all the correct information about the car....
  7. Since you checked everywhere for water and didn’t find any wetness, I would have the ac checked. Sounds like that may be a big part of the issue...
  8. I think there is an option for floor and defrost, but I may be thinking about my Jeep. Just leave mine on auto and forget about it ?
  9. I have an 09 that had UConnect Handsfree Phone. Back then there was no Bluetooth to play music so can’t help there. What I can offer is over the years and IPhone updates it worked less and less until, I got so frustrated I put in an aftermarket head unit, a Kenwood, and removed all the UConnect systems. Works flawlessly. That being said, I have UConnect in my 2018 Jeep Cherokee ,still no Bluetooth for music or CarPlay, but the phone/messaging/handsfree system works perfectly with my IPhone 11. Running IOS 14.2. UConnect does not seem to play nice with Apple. So, I would check the following: is there and update for your UConnect? Put your vin in the UConnect site, it should tell you are you running the latest software on your phone? have the dealer check your system Calling UConnect is usually a waste of time...
  10. 1-2 hours to replace your battery?? I changed mine (twice now) on my 09 Journey in 30-40 mins. If it took you 2 hours you stopped for a beer. All my Jeep forum does is bitch how fast the batteries in Cherokees are ruined by heat under the hood. You get about 3 years out of a battery. And really, who looks at where the battery is when they are car shopping! First world problems.....
  11. I have a 09 RT. My radio did not have any heat or other controls on the screen. I replaced my radio with a Kenwood with Apple Car Play. Tons of options with or without Nav, depends on what you want. I was able to retain ALL my factory steering wheel controls by using an adapter. Everything was plug and play, aside from a slight mod to 1 bracket. Install took about an hour (after I pre-connected the wires, easy stuff). The total cost for the Kenwood radio, Sat receiver, adapter module and wire looms was around $600 US dollars. I bought everything from Crutchfield on the web. Their customer service is great, they will answer all your questions BEFORE you buy, and they know what they are talking about. On top of it today they have Cyber Monday Deals going. Might be worth looking into. Let us know.
  12. let me get this straight...you own a car that is at least 10 years old (regardless of when you bought it) and you list multiple wear and tear items, and your surprised? My 09, which I bought new in July 08, has had the entire front and rear suspension replaced, 3 sets of tires, about 5 sets of brakes and rotors, various engine components (some under warranty, some not) and it has 98,000 miles on it. It’s 12 years old, crap going to wear out, brake, go bad. It’s what old cars do. UConnect sucks, so I yanked the factory radio and put in a Kenwood with Apple CarPlay. If your that unhappy, get it running and dump it. Likely worth around 3-4 thousand dollars on a trade in. That’s what my 09 R/T is worth anyway....
  13. And this one is 5 years old. Information is still good to have though...
  14. You did see this thread is over 3 years old? I think our 2 post wonder figured it out....?
  15. To play devils advocate, let’s say you go with the 2100 engine. How much for all the electronics you need? That 2100 doesn’t cover labor I’m sure, but let’s say you do all the repairs yourself. No real labor costs other than your time, assuming you have all the tools you need (engine lift, transmission jack, etc). No warranty if you do you the work, other than you get to fix it again. Once everything is all together, you turn the key and discover you need to tow it to a dealer to get the computer to talk to all the new electronic parts in order to get it to run. If you are lucky, it runs for 10 years. If your like me, it will catch fire again on the way home from the dealer. Not enough to burn down, just enough to screw you. Food for thought....
  16. Myself, after this kind of electrical damage, not to mention a replacement engine, will far exceed what the car is worth. You are likely to continue to have more electrical issues down the road. Time for a new ride, IMO....

Welcome from Chicago. I listen to Mancow too ?
  18. My 09 RT does not have power folding mirrors. You can manually fold them, but no power. Didn’t know it was even available.....
  19. I would start by checking the antenna connection at the back of the radio, then the Sat antenna connection. Could be the base unit/antenna on the roof is bad. The Nav uses the same antenna as Sat radio. If the Sat radio works you have other Nav issues, but with the AM/FM not working I would say antenna connection issue....
  20. I can think of half a dozen things it could be. The radio itself, the antenna, the antenna wire, the satellite antenna, the radio is not equipped with Nav, operator error.... If we are going to help you you need to provide ALOT more info: screen size, actual installed radio, satellite or no, what do you mean by “guy that sold me it said that it didn't have the navigation originally.” let us know
  21. Sounds like the car isn’t shutting the electronics down. I can open my tailgate, no ding and dome lights shutoff after a couple mins. If your under warranty take it in. The not shutting down can cause a no start issue....
