You have at least one bad ground - that's why the rear wiper only works when the backup lights are on.  And where here's one bad ground there are likely more.

Up where  live I rustproof our vehicles and as a result we don't get those types of problem.

I wonder whether the update file wasn't for a vehicle manufactured for spanish-speaking markets - this might well be a mistake uconnect would made posting the update files or perhaps in allocating the update file for your VIN.

The version of CTP17 I have for my 2014 works just fine in my vehicle if you'd like me to send a copy to you.

No sales code required for he RB5.  You will need to have the radio unlocked.  You can source the code for that and enter it yourself or you ca pay he dealer for it.

As far as anyone knows, there's no way to add the DRL code.

Most dealers really don't appreciate the nuances of an upgrade of this type - this can work for you or against you because if they quote low, you can hold their feet to the fire and make them honour their quote. Alternatively, they can mess things up pretty badly or they can start pulling things apart that don't need to be.
Adding navigation isn't complicated if you already have the 8" screen and SiriusXM (there is a non-SiriusXM 8" radio listed, but I don't believe that model is available for the Journey in North America); All you would need is the radio module itself, which resides behind the air conditioning controls - the CD/DVD player is part of the module, to give you an idea of just where it is located.
The module can be had for prices that usually vary between $650 and $1250 or more, depending on where you get it.
If you have an RE2 (8" non-navigation) radio in your vehicle now, then all you will need is the radio module itself. Its installation requires all of about 5 minutes and an unlock code, which can be had from a friendly member of the board. Once unlocked you would have your navigation, plain and simple. Assuming you want it you would have the SiriusXM subscription moved from your old radio to the new by calling SiriusXM. Features such as heated seat control, daytime running lights and so on, which are controlled via the touchscreen will continue to work.
However if all you have is the 4.3 screen then you are getting into a serious upgrade - in addition to the radio module, the screen would need to be replaced, the light sensor module at the center of the dash would need to be replaced and, if you have rear air conditioning, there is another sensor to install. If you didn't have Sirius you'd need to add in the satellite antenna. The controls below the radio would need to be replaced and the sales code for automatic air conditioning would need to be flashed.
Like the other external-but-controlled-by-the-radio features, if you already had the backup camera it would automatically work with the new radio, as would any other features such as heated seats. But you don't, so the point is moot.
Adding the backup camera costs about $265 for the OEM kit and requires about 3 hours of your time to install (or you can pay about $700 to your dealer and let him provide and install it). You will need to pay the dealer to activate it in any case - I had mine also do the connection of the wiring harness to the radio connector up front because the pins in question already had wires in them and if there was going to be a problem with the wiring harness down the road I wanted it to be Chrysler's problem (I wish I'd been able to find the other end of that wire, because I'd not have had to run the cable down the left side to the rear) . . . . I paid for one hour of shop time (which is what they were going to charge me to add the sales code anyway) for making the connection AND adding the sales code.
As was suggested, depending on what you have it may be a lot easier to just put a $150 Garmin navigator on the dash and plug it into the cigarette lighter and leave it at that. Then just order the feature when you buy your next car (and if you wait until 2018 backup cameras will be standard - starting in 2018 every new car in North America will have them as standard equipment).

If you are in North America the non-nav radio is the RE2 and the Nav radio is the RB5.

If you don't have a 'Nav' soft key next to the phone icon on the lower edge of the display you have an RE2.

I installed the OEM backup camera - I bought the 2011 kit which came with the wiring harness; good thing, since try as I might I was never able to find the back end of the video cable that I am certain was installed at the factory.

I had the dealer make the connection to the rear of the radio when I took the vehicle to them to have the sales code for the camera applied.  It was essentially free, since they were going to carge me for an hour of service to flash the code an they claimed it was a 20 minute job to insert the pins in the connector.

I was there for 2 hours because the tech/mechanic had to work harder than he expected doing the pins, but the dealer still only charged the one hour.

It is very easy to do if you already have the 8.2 inch display.  Less so if you don't.

This is my second Journey.  I went the Garmin route on the old one, but did the upgrade on this.  I also added the backup camera to mine.  I find the integration makes a HUGE difference and I have zero regrets.

They sell Duracell automotive batteries which carry 3 year replacement warranties and are rated at the upper end of the range as CCA ratings go.

Ummm . . . . you have uconnect.  ALL Dodge Journeys manufactured as of 2011 have uconnect.  Clearly the idiot you spoke with at the support line has no clue.

Do not confuse the two;  uconnect is the radio and aircon touch display.  Bluetooth is the subsystem that allows you to wirelessly connect your phone to the vehicle and is a separate feature and order code.

The presence of Bluetooth is evidenced by the top two buttons on the steering wheel control as shown above.  If you don't have the two upper voice command/phone buttons then you have no Bluetooth/voice commend.

You can go online with your VIN and get the build sheet for your vehicle which will show whether it has Bluetooth (but you needn't bother, since the presence or absence of those extra buttons will tell you what you'd like to know).

Having said that, with the exception of a series of vehicles produced early on during a parts shortage, EVERY vehicle with the 8.4" display has the Bluetooth and voice command and if it doesn't, then either your vehicle was upgraded to the 8.4" display by the previous owner (and can't have the Bluetooth retrofitted) or if it does the BT module is dead.  And again, you can tell by the presence of absence of the extra steering wheel control buttons.

If you have the buttons then the BT module or its connections are at issue and the subsystem needs to be fixed.  If you don't, then the vehicle was misrepresented.  And no matter why, whether error or misrepresentation, if they can't get the OEM BT function working, then hand them back the vehicle, get your money back and shop for another one that meets your needs.

The Dodge agent can only help if the buttons are there and Dodge refuses to repair it since the vehicle is still under warranty.  Otherwise this is between you and the selling dealer.

Do you have the 4.3" or the 8.4" display - the radio behind the small screen is a lot less expensive than $1200.

Your issue might be the screen's touch digitiser or it could be the radio module - both can often be found used.

No. They don't even try to update the maps because they don't have them to install - if they did, they would have had to buy them, which they didn't. And no, the 'hard drive' has not gone bad, because there IS no hard drive - the thing has Novram and it has either glitched for some reason, or there is/was some errant code that changed something in the map segments of memory, causing the unit to report a CRC error in the map file during the device's power-up self test.
They had no reason whatsoever to spend 2 hours with your vehicle since SOP is to order in a replacement unit when the complaint is 'can't unlock maps'..
They COULD resuscitate them at the dealership, but for some reason they don't seem to want to do that.

I'm wondering what the dealer did on those two (two? why two?) visits for the recall - I wonder if he even updated the system properly, though the only way to know is to check the version of the software (which is what shows as the navigator is starting up for the first time after switching on the vehicle).
SO BEFORE YOU GO BACK TO THE DEALER
Can you do me a favor and look at the splash screen while it starts and report the firmware version? It will probably be CTP14, CTP15 or CTP16 - but knowing what it is would be more than useful. There may also be another set of numbers in the form of 5.17 or 6.22. If you could please post the information here or send me a private message with the data.
    THANK YOU

The problem IMO is not likely with the firmware, but rather with the maps - the device is powering up properly but reports that the maps are locked. If you do want to try reloading the firmware I wish you luck - but do NOT take the Fiat firmware . . . go to the uConnect site, enter your VIN and download the file from there . . . . however I wouldn't even do that since I personally prefer the older CTP13 version which is not going to be offered to you.
Having said all this, there are two major hardware variants of the RB5. There was a major change about 2/3 of the way through the 2102 model year. That's one reason for using the uConnect site since their database knows which version you have . . . or had . . . if your radio's been changed and it they put an early radio to replace the late model and if the database hasn't been updated, you could well be downloading radio-killer firmware. So figure out what you have before trying anything.

Just buy an extended warranty FROM CHRYSLER for your vehicle. You can get up to 7 years and 160K coverage, though it can get a bit pricey - I have the 7/115 zero deductible on my vehicle - costs something less than $2K - if your dealer wants more he's being a pig.

The radio is not the only liability in there - lots of electronics and many dealers aren't all that good at troubleshooting and repairing electronic issues.

    Larryl;
    That's an interesting observation;
In all likelihood the extent of the 'repairs' they do is limited to simply reloading the firmware and maps, which gets the device working again and then they put the unit into replacement inventory, to be used when the next one corrupts it's memory and does the 'can't unlock maps' thing.

The problem, of course is that whatever it is that made the unit in your vehicle, whether it is a vehicle or options configuration, something about the radio itself or some electrical glitch will likely still be there, so all that's really happening is that the unit they stick into the vehicle is more than likely going to fail again, while those people who do not have problems will continue to experience trouble-free operation.

Essentially, they are treating the symptoms without dealing with the disease - they probably can't be bothered, for whatever reason to actually fix the underlying problem, assuming that it can be fixed . . . . .

This, of course doesn't bode well for owners of DJs, 300s, Chargers and Darts who have the RB5 radio and have issues and plan to keep their vehicles past the warranty period UNLESS someone starts a campaign to force FCA to provide a formal perpetual warranty, and possibly financial compensation to people who have this radio in their cars, whether they came from the factory with them or if they were added post-sale, since the company supplied the product in either case and there is nothing specific about vehicles with the factory-installed version as opposed to one which is added after the fact - they all originally came from Chrysler and Chrysler was paid for them.

    Note to Dodgecares.ca:
You might want to initiate a dialog with the customer relation and warranty groups in order to perhaps get the company to proactively act before someone starts a class action lawsuit noting that there are many jurisdictions around the world and absolutely in Quebec, where the provider of a device is held accountable for their product's reliability and for latent defects.

It would seem to be pretty clear to observers, and to the industry that there is some inherent design flaw that results in a significant failure rate that limits the standard of usability expected for such items - and given the cost to recover from a failure (I wouldn't call it a repair, since they don't seem to actually repair these things, but simply reset them, which from all indications seems to be only a temporary solution), the company needs to stand up and accept responsibility for the problem before the driving public sues it.

It will start small - as the 2011s are now off their basic guarantees, someone will take the company to small claims court and they will win - and on the basis of the award, others will do the same, using the jurisprudence of the cases that preceded them and eventually a lawyer who has one of these with problems will push the button and it will start to get a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE for Chrysler.

Given that it is a design defect, at least in Quebec they will not be able to escape providing a lifetime warranty, based on what you reported - this is going to get interesting.
I'd have balked at even paying the $100
FYI they are all manufactured by Panasonic. . . .

I STILL would love to take a crack at one of these before it goes back to the dealer.
