2017 Dodge Journey SE annoying suspension rattle.

Just purchased a new 2017 Dodge Journey SE with 74 km on it 3 weeks ago and within 4 days it developed a rattle on the front end. I took it to the dealership that I bought it from and I was told it needed a new passenger side strut and strut mount, the dealer fixed it I picked up the vehicle same rattle the next day I took it back to the dealer they put a driver side strut and strut mount in, still the same rattle. At this point the vehicle has 125 K M on it and the dealer says maybe something's loose so they retorque all the suspension and Chassis bolts.... No luck still rattling. It's been roughly three weeks since I bought the vehicle I have just over a thousand kilometers on it and going in and out of parking lots or any type of unlevel ground at a slower speed with steering input the front end rattles like the sway bar is rattling off the rack and pinion.....loud metallic sound. It can be heard inside and outside the vehicle.... But the best part about the whole thing is that the Chrysler dealer tells me that this is normal for a Dodge Journey to sound like this. It's something that's bad in the suspension that they cannot find and are basically giving up on finding it. The dealer only advice was to complain to Chrysler Canada...wtf! Really disappointed by dealer inability to fix and just pass off concerns. Any ideas??

I have a 2017 Journey Crossroad and I have a noise similar to what you are describing. It happens mostly when I'm going slow over a speed bump. There are tons of topics on this and I can't believe the dealer doesn't have a TSB to look at for this issue as many people have the same one. It doesn't bother me much, and I did have them look everything over and they said it was fine so I'm not too worried. The dealer here said that a lot of the Journeys make that noise, and they haven't found a definite solution to it, but also reassured me that the performance/safety of the suspension isn't compromised. Take a look through some of the forum topics and maybe you'll find one where they got the noise solved, then you can see if the dealer would be able to try the same to rectify the noise. Sorry about your experience, and I hope you get it solved!

Same issue here, no solution from dealer. Even argued they couldn't hear it when I first brought it in. Was assured it wasn't a safety concern so I have been living with it. I will put in a complaint to Chrysler, as I hope everyone else does as well. Maybe then they will realize it is a bigger issue then they say. 

BTW...I have sprayed a few points as advised in the forum, but it seems to be a semi, short solution.

I've looked everywhere underneath, engine bay, both front wheels, body, door ,underneath the dash.... And it seems like strut bearings to me or something to do with the strut I did notice yesterday and today that lowering my tire pressure to 34 PSI helped out quite a bit. When I picked up the journey knew they were at 39 all around. I also put a complaint in we'll see what happens.

I actually fixed about 80% of noise.....it's seems to be a two fold problem. One the struts are noise however now that they are wearing in a bit it's not as bad. Two the metallic rattle is coming from strut tower brace. I removed the front and lower covers of that brace and wraped it pipe wrap then put the covers back on...it's seemed to stop alot of the vibration and rattle. The strut tower bar is hollow and emits noise so I may also see if I can plug each end and see if it helps even more.

I have a 2018 and the rattle a started the day I paid off the car.  I've already had the car (1700) towed to the dealer because it wouldn't start.  It took them 4 days get it going.  The first two days they "were charging the battery.  It has to be 100%", they said.  Strange, the first roadside assister checked and the battery was 100%.

 

I'm getting ready to trade this in on a GMC Sierra.

Okay so I'm a Dodge fan, however, I am not a fan of the journeys. I would definitely say that the Dodge Journeys were one of the worst makes Chrysler has made. And the most common problem I have noticed with my journey after owning it for 5 years is that the suspension parts seem to go a lot quicker and I'm not even hard on my vehicle. I have replaced many parts on this vehicle however the most common one I have replaced is the hub bearings and the tie rod ends. Mind you I have only had to replace one side each of the front hub bearings so that's not as bad as some but the tie rod ends seem to not work well if they're not properly greased inside the nipple. I believe that I only have had to replace the hub bearings because my SUV is getting pretty old and I am not the first driver. I was lucky enough to get an honest opinion from a Dodge mechanic and he told me that he figured that my suspension was sweating. Now generally speaking I'm not very good with mechanical terms but I have researched this and it seems to be common among the journeys. So I have decided that as a dedicated Dodge fan I have decided to buy the dodge truck and trade this up. Because had I had to pay for all of this work out of pocket it would have caused me tens of thousands of dollars to fix the amount of suspension things I have so therefore my best advice is try to get out of your journey and upgrade to something else because I was fortunate to have a mechanic do the work for me but not everybody will have that option. There is only one positive I can honestly say about my journey is the gas mileage is phenomenal, and it's sad that's the only positive I can say ☹

Also I must say that the rattling I had prior was due to the hub bearings and because the hub bearings were going my tie rod ends kept popping and splitting. And yes sometimes it can be the bushings but not in every circumstance it also depends on what work has already been done on the vehicle and how it is driven. But to be fair if it's not the bushings or the sway bar links or the sway bar bushings then it's probably the hub bearings or the tie rod ends. I only know this because I have been through all the options on what it could have been I replaced everything that I thought it was and the only thing that fix the problem was replacing the hub bearings along with the tie rod ends to save myself any future problems and that seemed to do the trick.

Lift up on the front end body of your car. Mine was completely loose. That’s what was making the noise. I know sounds crazy but do it, lift it. Can’t tell by looking. My brother put more  bolts in and tightened it. Noise is completely gone!! That’s after he tried everything else brought up on this forum.

He just happened upon lifting up on the front end of the body of the car. That’s where the noise is coming from. He bolted it together I guess to the frame. I didn’t see him fix it. But absolutely no more creaking sounds going over bumps or thru dips!!

Sounds crazy I know but at least give it a try. One guy I told thought I was crazy til he went out and lifted up on his Journey.

However,  I have been researching and thinking that it could also be because I used aftermarket parts to replace the problematic parts.  So I'm going to start saving up for my original mopar parts in hopes that it will change the problems I'm having.  In the meantime,  I will definitely be checking the front end because if it's just in need of tightening,  then that's a much cheaper way to fix it right now lol
