When we lived in Houston, Tx., we had a 2010 R/T V6 AWD, which was a truly amazing vehicle, I was totally won over,
found it the best vehicle I had ever driven, whether driving out to visit Mom in Kerrville, or driving to San Antonio to see friends,
it handled the I10 so well. Driving up to Austin, down to Galveston, out to Fredricksburg, Bandera, Hunt, Junction, College Station,
it handled it all so well and drove like a dream.

When we moved on back to Australia in 2013 I bought the then current model SXT, put 19 rims on it, Cooper CS4 tires,
and am so pleased. This week we ordered a 2014 SXT for my wife, we pick it up on Thursday. Yes, we are well and
truly sold on the Dodge Journey 3.6 V6.

I purchased my Journey last Thursday and asked to have a DVD screen put in so I could use the 6 disk DVD changer on long road trips for my kids. Well my wife took it in Friday to have it installed. When she got home I was surprised that what they had put in was a self contained DVD player with it's own screen. I was pretty upset and called asking why it wasn't hooked to my radio unit. I was told that the stock screen that comes from the factory has a decoder built into it that decodes a signal from the dash unit and that it was impossible to do. Long story short the guys at the dealer kept giving me excuse after excuse as to why it couldn't be hooked up to the dash unit even if I were to try it myself.
Well yesterday after about six hours of messing with it I have hooked up my after market DVD screen to my radio and it works great. I'll try and gather some more info and post an entire write up later.

Welcome to the forum. The option probably has to be "turned on" at the dealer via a starscan tool. Probably cost you an hours labor to have it done. New vehicles these days usually come pre-wired for every option available, but not activated if the option is not part of the trim package. Basically they have to go in to the computer and "flip the switch" to turn the option on.

removal isn't difficult, but I would look at other options like a tablet. They make very stylish accessories to mount them nowadays... You could also look at an overhead unit, but that comes with it's own unique difficulties...

    Hey Guys!
New here. Got myself a left over brand new 2013 Journey V6 on March 31st. It's a FWD SXT model, but has some bells and whistles, some of which are:
    LED interior lighting
    8.4 TouchScreen
Alpine Stereo System w/Subwoofer & Amplifier
    Third Row Seats
    Remote Start..etc.
Individually, theres alot to list. It's a nice step up from the stock models I saw.
The option packages on the car, which some of the above features are attributed to are:
    Customer Preferred Package 28E
    Flexible Seating Group
    Popular Equipment Group
3.6-Liter V6 24 Valve VVT Engine Group, which ill specify:
    -Dual Bright Exhaust Tips
    -Engine Oil Cooler
    -Touring Suspension
The color is very nice, and its seemingly the most metallic paint job I've seen, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl.
...Well, only into a week of enjoying the car, some dumb ass ran a stop sign and barrelled right into the front/side.. 9.5k in damage! How do you like that, brand new car, first week and BAM, $10K in damage! Anyway, of course, the important thing, being no one was hurt, but the BITCH that hit me was a on of those callous, disconnected elitist-minded folks, no apology, no nothing! She was driving a Range Rover by the way.. the nerve.. lol!
Anyway, car was in the body shop for 4+ weeks. Just got her back Friday the 16th. Yeah, they did a good job, yeah it looks fine, but i know the subtle imperfections.. whatever.
So, the car has about 750 miles on it.. drives very well, transmission is the smoothest I've ever felt quite frankly, i thought it was a CVT at first, how smoothly is shifts! The V6 is peppy, rated at 283HP, not a race car, but peppy.
What else, seems like it was a good buy, since it was a left over and the dealer was anxious, I got the truck for $24,380. Not too shabby!
Oh, there's one thing, the car has a persistent power steering type sound at all times, especially when turning the wheel in transit.. i've read that this is a normal Journey thing? It would be first car I've ever owned that had a power steering (or some other howling/rotary sound) as a normal thing. It's actually annoying, wondering if other folks have had this eliminated?
    Cheers fellow Journey Droogies!

Sorry for your troubles. I dont know why people start threads like these in a Dodge Journey forum. It's like going to your hometeams football game and screaming they stink at the top of your lungs. It would be better to start out with an introduction to your problems and what you have done to try and recify the issues. We could then start a productive conversation with you and try to help you out. Just joining the forum to start a thread titled" worst car ever" is not going to get you much help. On this forum, you have access to Dodge Care specialists, experienced auto technicians and do-it-ourselfers (like myself) who can assist you with dealer problems and other issues you may have, plus there may be someone else who experienced the exact same issue and knows what it takes to resolve/fix the issue(s). Hopefully someone may chime in with some helpful information. I feel your frustration but come to the forum with a positive attitude and you will get positive results. We are a forum of Dodge Journey enthusiasts and take it a bit personal when someone starts a thread titled "Dodge Journey Worst Car Ever". That is your personal opinion and are free to express it, but dont expect much advise. My opinion? We owned an 09 for 4 years and 80,000 miles when we traded it. We loved it so much we got another one. There are two sides to every coin. Dodge Journey, Best car ever!

well I have to say I'm impressed.. I have a 2013 ram 1500 bighorn and I love everything about it !!!!! This past week I had to go to Calgary AB for work. I live in Vancouver BC and it's about a 10 hr drive through the mountains. I usually like taking my truck on long drives cuz it's so comfy and powerful. My wife was coming with me this time so i decided to take her 2014 DJ RTR to see how it would do. I have to say it did pretty good. It doesn't have the passing power of my truck but it does have better cornering and the ride is just as smooth. I averaged 25.5 mpg which considering how much climbing i had to do is pretty good. Navigation, auto climate and the lumbar supported power seats all made the drive very comfortable.... not going to lie the journey wasn't my first choice... my wife didn't want a mini van but needed extra seating... the salesman sold us on a DJ RTR but i was kind of regretting it after the leaky sunroof incident... well it totally redeemed itself on this road trip.

Over the past weekend, we drove to Illinois for my nephews high school graduation. (Lake Villa, Ill, to be exact) total miles @1600, or so. The DJ was a complete joy to drive. Smooth and comfortable (even around the horribly winter impacted roads around Indiana, whose roads give new meaning to the word "pot hole"). We drove straight through both ways, 13 hours at a time. We managed a respectable 28 MPG for the entire trip which included some serious congestion around Indianapolis, Dayton and Chicago. All in all, very pleased with this vehicle. Not a single hickup anywhere. Got a 4 day weekend coming up and going to treat her with an oil change and good wash, wax and detail since she treated us so well. Count me in with the "Love my DJ" crowd!

I agree that from your description she could have done a better

The trucks dispatched for this service are contracted independents and unless

I just need to RANT! .... sorry its alil long ....
I live in S.W Ontario, St.Thomas to be exact. This past weekend our area was hit hard by a winter storm with snow squalls off the lake - 70cm+ !!
I work nights in Nursing in London which is approx. 20mins to the north. Getting to work Saturday night took me over 90mins as the roads were pretty bad. The drive home was more or less the same but as long as I kept my speed way down and drove according to the conditions I was totally fine.
About 5 mins from home, I was travelling a 2 lane highway, the on coming lane had been plowed and about 1/2 of my lane, therefore I was driving with half my DJ on the plowed lane, and the passenger side through the snow. Traffic was very light being 8am on a Sunday morning however an on coming car failed to move over to the right alittle bit to share the lane so I had to slowly inch the Journey closer and closer to the unplowed part of the road when the inevitable happened and the snow drift just grabbed the wheels and pulled me into a fairly deep snow drift that unfortunately the AWD could not get me out of. -- I was NOT off the road, if the snow wasn't there, I would've been half on the wide shoulder and half in the travel lane ... but I was stuck and that was that.
After I cleaned out my pants, I got out to assess if there was any damage and luckily there was none - very soft fluffy snow - and you could easily see my path of travel behind me ... but I was still stuck.
I quickly grabbed my handy "Dodge Roadside Assistance" card and dialed the number. The lady who picked up the phone was BEYOND rude!!! ..... she asked me the normal questions (very curt) - name, address, VIN# etc and confirmed I did infact have Roadside available. I explained my situation and that I just needed a quick pull out -- literally I just had to be pulled about 10 ft backwards on flat road, no problem --
Here is our conversation: (which btw sounded like she was talking on a 1984 speaker phone as I could hardly hear her)
Her: So HOW exactly did you get "in" the ditch?
Me: Im not IN the ditch, Im actually ON the road, just stuck in a deep drift is all.
    Her: Was the road plowed?
Me: About 2/3 of the road has been plowed, but almost 1/2 of mine had not.
Her: So you CHOSE to drive on an UNplowed highway??
Me: It's been plowed, just not fully ... we've had a pretty major storm so they're trying to get the roads cleared.
Her: Sir, has the highway been plowed!?
Me: Like I said, more than 1/2 has but my wheels got pulled in from a deep snow drift.
Her: but you just told me your lane had NOT been plowed .... so which is it sir? has the road been plowed or not?!?!
(here Im trying to remain pleasant and courteous as I understand it's hard for her to picture I imagine what I mean)
Me: It's been plowed ... just not fully yet.
Her: So like I said, you CHOSE to drive down an unplowed road therefore you will be CHARGED for the tow as this is YOUR FAULT.
Me: Excuse me? ... we had a MAJOR storm, most roads are NOT plowed fully at all as its 8am....
(She cut me off mid sentence ...)
Her: You have admitted the road has not been plowed therefore it was your decision to drive down it and your fault you are now stuck, I will dispatch a tow
truck to your location however you WILL be charged whatever their fee is for a removal.
Me: You're kidding right? ... what kind of "Roadside" has loopholes like this? because Im stuck in snow, I have to pay for a tow truck.......
(Again cut off mid sentence ...)
Her: Sir, do you want me to dispatch a truck to your location or not ?!?!!!!
Me: Do you know how much the pull out charge would be?
Her: I do not, whatever that company charges you ... also you are responsible for any damages that happen due to being towed out.
Me: I have Roadside through my insurance company who Im sure will have no problem providing their customer with the emergency assistance they need.
Her: That's fine ... thank you for calling Dodge Roadside Assistance ... have a great day ... *click*
I than called my insurance companies Roadside Assistance and couldn't believe the difference ... first question was, ARE YOU OKAY? ... Are you alone? ... Do you have enough gas to keep the vehicle warm? --- There was absolutely no problem with her dispatching a tow truck, she was VERY apologetic that the timeframe was 4-5 hours as they were very busy but I was okay with that. --- She than called me every 30 mins to check on me and give me an update time wise.
I couldn't believe the difference, I wish I wrote down that Dodge ladies name as I would forsure be filing a complaint against her ... her attitude, her flat tone, her lack of customer service and her flat out blaming me was just totally uncalled for ! ......
Once the tow truck showed up, it took all of 3 mins to hook up the winch line and pull me backwards ... the driver said it was his easiest removal so far that day.
Ugh ! .... I just was and am so pi$$ed about this .... what is the point of having the peace of mind of having Roadside Assistance if when you go to use it you are berated, talked down too and than pretty much told the best she will do is call a tow truck ??? .... lady I can call a damn tow truck! .......
Sorry its so long .... I just really needed to rant and vent

These vehicles (almost all made anywhere) are painted
by robots programmed to the task.
    Therefore "X" amount of electrostatic
paint is applied to each and every body
coming down the line in theory.
They paint 2 bodies in the same booth at
the same time 2 different colours without
so much as a speck of either colour ending
    up on the wrong body.
My niece is a final inspection worker at
the Chrysler minivan plant in Windsor
Ontario and says they very few incidents
    of poor paints application.
Yours maybe an exception or it was polished out
    at final inpection.

Ok, so I have only had this 1 week and I don’t know everything about it yet, however…
Daytime Running Lights – Not working at first but looking through the settings I found the option to turn them on, and low and behold they work!
Weather tech rear window guards fell off while driving into the vehicle thank god, a quick search here in the forums, a dremel tool and some 3M auto tape and I’m back in business.
Interior is really quiet, V6 had plenty of power to get the job done, as others have noted the transmission is a bit slow to downshift but nothing I cannot live with.
NAV system is really good, learns the way I want to go and remembers it, awesome!
Stereo rocks! Lots of BASS when the EQ is turned up. Sat radio I have NO opinion on as I have not looked at it yet.
Rear Entertainment System, what can I say I do not sit in the back, but the kids’ love it and it keeps them quiet.
LOVE the passing blinkers, for those that do not know just tap the turn signal, it will blink 3 times in the direction you taped and then turn off.
Gas Mileage, well I have 528 miles on it, and I’m on my 2nd fill up so no tracking until I fill up tomorrow. The computer is showing 21 to 21.4 so far, I’m thinking it’s going to improve as it breaks in.
