  1. Lots of wear items changed, which is good. A good mechanic should be able to identify noise source. Can’t really trouble shoot remotely on internet. Control arm or subframe bushings or maybe strut. Struts are a wear item. Sway bar bushings can rattle, even if end links are new. Nice utube clip by the way.
  2. The upper strut mount bearing is more of a rattle. That's a heavier clunking noise. Is the tire starting to wear funny ? Lots of stuff like lower ball joint, tierods, suspension bushings can make noise too. And they will excellerate tire wear noticeably. Is steering shaking or pulling when driving down the road? Still original struts on our two journeys, 209 and 275k kms in them. Lots of ball joints and tierods have been changed. Up on a hoist it's sometimes easier to diagnose clunks. Paying for a diagnosis can be better than guessing.
  3. Valve covers, one of the few journey repairs I haven't done...yet. On lots of other cars though, plastic and metal, torque wrench important. . Good gaskets mentioned, yeah absolutely, labor is time/money. 5rebel9 you are getting both barrels this winter. Snow and the cold both. Some how only a few small dumps on this side of the lake, or my exact spot really, 24F so temp not nice. Lots of heavy storms really close by, power outages as well. Now that I have a costco generator, only a few flickers brown outs. Did a jenny run for 30 mins just to make sure it still works at year 3. Running on propane only so far, can store in basement without smell that way. Propane is a little harder to start in the cold, I have learned.
  4. Wow, not a fun start to the new year. We keep a aaa/caa membership for our older vehicles, less scrambling when things go sideways. Decent reliable tow truck drivers are a bonus as well. Clutch was only on euro models, so it seems like it has an ecm issue and default firmware has booted up car. We had a site member few years ago with a similar problem, but I couldn't find the post searching. So maybe start with a can bus bi directional scanner first. Your extensive ..,but very cool mods with create a lot of non sense codes. But individual probe of ecm, bcm and tipm might give some clues. As you know, even a bad ground can do some pretty weird stuff. Can low frequency base vibrations crack random solder joints...we are about to find out. (I know you have a sense of humor !) And you have more wiring skills than most of us on the site, keep us in the loop.
  5. He hasn't mentioned driver powered seat function. Probably a mouth full of turkey right now. If it's power to power seat swap, that harness may already have the heated seat wires in it. Would make it simpler. Active head restraints are on some US models, but I believe not north of border models. One less thing to worry about I guess.
  6. Whick engine is it, any recent work done on car. Miles on car? Check for codes, even if no mil on. The ecm is what regulates alternator charging circuit through the TIPM module. Your year I believe had problems with tipm acting up, causing horn random honks, no starts etc. Trouble starting means slow turning over, only clicking ? CPS sensor can cause random no starts, a wear item really.
  7. Clock spring in steering column for air bags\horn are different in heated steering wheel optioned cars. Keep it in mind if heated steering doesn't work when enabled by alpha obd programmer. May have to add a wire or get heated steering wheel vehicle clock spring to install from wrecker. Our 2014 journey has the heated steering wheel, only turns on in the 8.4" main screen. Very nice in the winter.
  8. I have been lucky as well with coupling, fingers crossed. Here is pic of what a new vent looks like, internal check valve I think. Have cleaned off my vent a few times, changed gear oil a few times, just fur on magnet drain plug. Vent plug hard to get at, very little clearance. Spare and holder ringer should be removed. Can it just be pried out and new one tapped in, curious. Around 22 cdn pesos for part.😁 Hangar bearing and driveshaft rebuild turns up on this forum, high milage occurrence on 2009-10 models. Parts not hard to get, they said. Match mark pieces and reassemble. Sure is nice to have awd in the crappy weather, my wife insists on it.
  9. Your the guy that figured out the awd rear diff vent plugging problem. Welcome back. I recently got a cheap xtool bi directional scanner, good for diagnosing, can program cps, abs, throttle assembly, few other things. Alpha obd I think is what people have used to turn on extra features like led fogs, bcm, ecm changes. Guys on Ram forum use it a lot. My xtool can get around Fca autoauth without issues, but it's entry level $180 ish. Links to app on a phone or tablet. Only had it a week, did seem to fix angle sensor calibration issue that was turning on traction control light. I still think it's abs wheel sensor related. But no direct code shows up for that. Only one orig wheel bearing still on vehicle.
  10. Yeah blender door actuator is a wear item. But not likely draining battery. Most cars to vent interior when car is shut off cycle actuator to not accumulate condensation on windows. After about 2 mins there should be no cycling, vent back in closed position. Lower glove box door, remove HVAC filter door and paper filter. Blend door is now fully visible for operation. You are probably having issues with fogged up windows if your actuator is sticking. If you decide to change it, you need to remove the power fuse for the actuator before changing part. Other wise it will end up out of position when harness plug is removed (drops constant power). Or install part using bi directional scanner calibration procedure, which does it for you. Most common parasitic drain on Journey is the Bluetooth module messing up (if you have the option). Pull fuse labeled hfm (hands free module) for a few days and see if drain stops. Fuse located in passenger front kick panel box. There are companies that rebuild the Bluetooth modules to fix problem. New they are crazy expensive. Glove box light staying on, stuff charging in car cig ports, bad alternator diodes other possibilities.
  11. Great pics like usual khnitz, forums are built on that. Mopar can be very competitive on some parts. Warranty is interesting on solenoid assembly, Dorman is highest $ cost with life time, other guys 36 months, mopar is 24. Your selling anyway, not a consideration. Mopar online sites have decent discounts and can be good information sources. Automatic parking switch on wiper motor assembly failing can do weird crap. It has constant and switched power supplys. Another possibility, bi scanner might give some info trail. Viton is great for higher heat, strong chemicals, more money than buna but worth using.
  12. Try a few reservoir flushes for the pump noise, ATF+4 is same as mopar power steering fluid. Could even try cleaning screen at bottom of plastic reservoir. Remove two bottom hoses, flush with brake cleaner. Evaporates easily. Pumps cavitating are noisy. Good lifetime extended warranty claim, looks very nasty to change.
  13. How long was new battery charged before install ? They never come with a full charge. Are you using full synthetic 5w20 oil. Starters don't usually turn slower when wearing out, solenoid contacts start giving no starts, clicking. Or just nothing from brushes, bearings, armature dead spot. Take a gloved hand and try to move top battery terminals. If you can, then not tight enough. Harder now with it up in place, awkward install like you said. With a 2012 lots of ground connections starting to get crappy, strut tower small grounds and main body grounds should be cleaned up. Grind down to bar metal then very thin film of dielectric grease. Not many issues here with 3.6 starter, I think like alternator it's Nipondensa, so top shelf brand.
  14. The way it was explained to me by a transmission mechanic; slightly harder shifts generate less heat and wear on tranny internals, so not a bad thing. If no codes stored about shift ratios etc, it's working as engineered. So far no codes on our 2014, but I was thinking of changing TCC because it's cheap, a wear item more or less. This 6 speed unit in general seems to have a history of funky shifting. But changing fluid and winter weather reduces the frequency of our 2014. Car is probably going to my daughter next year or so, when they stay in family...you try to be ahead on maint stuff. About 175k miles, has been a decent vehicle. Thanks for the info.
  15. If you have bi directional scanner that can access it, hold solenoid and cycle it, should feel it click pretty hard. Wire harness could be ratty. Gasket looks well made with centering cut outs for studs. Sometimes mopar cars fussy for oem stuff. Mopar on line sites offering decent discounts lately.
  16. Hey khnitz, nice clear pics of the repair. Glad it worked out. I need to do the same fix soon, no codes yet but occasional rough 3-2 down shifts, fluid done several times since new. Just curious about the torx bolt on the new solenoid, was the torque spec 80-90 inch pounds ? You used mopar part ? The right stuff in pic is not RTV, I think it's polyurethane like seam sealer, pricy stuff. Most tranny shops use it because in service right away no over night curing. Use it on my Ram for diffs and pan seals. Gaskets are fine too.
  17. Lucked out, only got a 2-3 nches of wet heavy snow. My craftsman blower is a two stage but it struggles with wet heavy stuff. So I shoveled. Have driven daughter in laws 2 wheel drive journey in light snow. With good Cooper snows it's not that bad. Extra weight increases stopping distance; in very small cars that float on the snow, I have done that years ago. The snow I deal with here is not any where near as bad as Buffalo snow belt. But I have spent lots of time in northern ontario, which has big storms and drifting. People who say 4wd not needed or not worth the extra maint work...have never driven through 2 foot snow falls. It's not that hard to get stuck...even with 4wd drive and snow tires when it's bad enough out.
  18. Yes, happy thanksgiving 🦃 neighbors. Enjoy a Yuengling if your a beer drinker; one of your best I think. Work on that black Friday shopping list !
  19. Started my snow blower yesterday. Stored it with empty carb and sea foam additive in the gas left in the tank. Hate that ethanol gas, it’s even in most of our top to octane fuel now. Not that close to the lake but I still get some big snow dumps occasionally. Had one small 3” dump two weeks ago. Lake effect snow can be nuts some times. Haven’t tested my generator lately, should do that soon, no power really sucks.
  20. Factory head unit is designed for the factory camera. The factory back up camera would require the factory wiring in the rear hatch as well. Then possibly activation of the option in the can bus. Won’t just be plug and play from what I understand. Alpha obd or other equipment needed not just harnesses. Aftermarket set ups use a special added interface box to keep all the functions like steering wheel audio controls, heat steering wheel, seats, rear 120volt converter etc working. Car stereo sites have some of the info.
  21. On second page Some info about changing TCC solenoid.
  22. He said tires, probably meant rims hitting. This is good info for the site. Just came across this same issue for the first time, older 17" dodge rims not fitting over the bigger duel piston 2014 Journey calipers. Rims were off a Caravan, wrecker labeled them (probably incorrectly 2015) and rubbed just enough to not spin. Spacers would move rim off bearing hub center ring, put load just on wheel studs...not a good idea IMO. So I assume all Journey rims are only downwards compatible. All 17, 19 inch rims from 2013-2020 will fit on all years of journey 2009-2020. But 16,17 and 19 from 2009-2012 will never fit on 2013-2020 newer years. I never knew that. Or saw it clearly stated on any tire/rim threads. Is this correct ?
  23. Any codes stored. Try putting in neutral next no crank start.
  24. On line pic from SEMA Las Vegas trade industry show. Friday was general public day, would have been cool to be there. This slammed ( Subaru I think, not sure) PRV speaker display car just a hint at some of the neat stuff at show. Jay Leno had his new Corvette and has various car care products there. Gear head heaven for car enthusiasts. Right to repair lobby in full force; fighting the good fight. https://www.autoblog.com/features/i-survived-sema-2025-this-is-the-true-state-of-the-automotive-hobby
