Do you see a bar code in the rear view mirror?

Hi everybody. Just wondering if anybody has the same glitch as I do. When i have a car following me with the dip light on, I can see a bar code on my rear view mirror, right in the middle of the mirror. It doesn't show up when there is no light coming into the mirror, only when there is a car behind me with the lights on. Is it a defect and the mirror should be replaced or is it a feature? :shades:

This is the first time I heard of this issue. You can review with the dealer to see if they have come across this issue.

Since purchasing my 2014 in May I've noticed something like that in my dimming rearview mirror, and it's very visible at all times. I've just figured it was residue left by something stuck to the mirror by the mirror manufacturer, someone in Toluca during assembly to tell workers what parts had to go in, someone during shipment from Toluca to Southfield, MI, or even someone at the dealer in Southfield.

I haven't gotten around to cleaning it yet since I honestly never think to clean the rearview in any of my cars. It looks vaguely like a barcode, which is what leads me to believe it's just residue.

If it doesn't clean off with Windex or Stoner's Invisible glass, try using a fine mesh netting in conjunction with the cleaner to lightly abrade the surface without scratching it. Invisible Glass cleaning wands available at many auto parts stores come with just such a netting for removing stuck-on junk like that. They're also fabulous for cleaning front and rear windshields without straining to reach, and I've used that netting bonnet to clean rubber transfer from the window weatherstripping. You can also try Goo-Gone.

All else fails, tell the dealer and find out if it can be replaced under warranty, as it may be something beneath the glass.

I have a 2013 dodge journey and Dodge Dart. Both with the same problem. It drives me crazy!!! since the sensitivity of the auto dimming is so easily darkened. My dart also has numbers above the barcode and they are viewed in reverse which makes me believe that it is behind the glass. Something in the manufacturing process Im sure.

FYI, I finally had the thought to try and clean it from my mirror. I just rubbed it with my thumb (good ol' spit-shine) and the residue came away. Cleaning with a glass cleaner such as Stoner's Invisible Glass should take care of it. If cleaning that way or with slightly more aggressive methods as noted above, a visit to the dealer for warranty replacement is in order.
