Oh I’ve used my warranty lots and lots of times. It’s had nine batteries (I have an unexplained problem with it not starting at random), I’ve had lots of suspension parts replaced, the radio, antenna, oil pan, radiator and several other things. The good thing about my dealer is that they don’t charge me the $100 deductible because I bought the warranty from them. That alone has save me thousands of dollars. I know Chrysler would love to get rid of my warranty, every time the car comes in, a big red screen pops up on my service advisors screen asking him to confirm that I’m the original owner. There are only three things that can end the warranty, my death, selling the car, since it’s not transferable or being in a crash that totals out the car. After all, how much is an ‘09 with 350, 000 miles on it be worth? I’m curious, where did you buy your warranty? I didn’t think Chrysler that warranty any more…..

The timing belt has been changed three times according to the maintenance schedule. This car came with a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty and I’m not really a fan of extended warranties, but since it already had the powertrain warranty, the Chrysler Lifetime bumper-to-bumper warranty was only $1800 bucks more. Since one of the requirements is you have to follow the scheduled maintenance schedule, I never miss a one, and the oil changed every 6,000 miles. At my next oil change, I’ll be due for another tranny service, we’ll see what they say…..

Yes the 3.6L engine is original, but the tranny was replaced at 100,000.

Well I’m sorry to hear this, I’ve enjoyed your comments over the years. That’s a crazy amount for an ‘09, how many miles were on it at the end? That’s my biggest worry for my ‘09 and it’s Lifetime warranties, that someone will hit me and total it out. Although I expect with over 350,000 miles it wouldn’t take much to total it…… Happy roads ahead for you……

The picture is of my old tray. The battery has been replaced nine times in 11 years. I’d have to say nothing was wrong with most of those batteries. Like I said, when I bring it to the dealer and I have a LifeTime Bumper to Bumper warranty, we’ll they have to find something to replace when I complain about it not starting. Truth of the matter is, that I’ve found it’ll start eventually if you wait long enough and it’s definetly not the battery or the starter.

It kinda looks like the switch to indicate that the hood is closed. I have one on my ‘09 used for the remote start feature. Let us know when you find it’s proper location..... Happy Motoring!

I’ve had a similar issue on my ‘09 Journey since it was one year old. At first I thought it was the battery, it’s been replaced 10 times in the past 11 years. Also the starter three times, Win Module and even a new ground from the block to the body. Each time it would be fine for months and so you thought you’d finally found a solution. Many times I could jump it and it started immediately. Lately, I’ve discovered that if you wait or try to restart enough times, it’ll eventually start, sometimes my remote start works and it’ll start. I have no idea what the cause could be, but I’m convinced it’s not a dead or bad battery. The last few times it’s occurred the starter seemed delayed by about 10 seconds. Almost like the computer was taking it’s good ole time in sending the command to start....... Sorry I don’t have any answers for you, but keep us posted if you discover something. Happy Motoring.

Well I truly hope the relay actually fixed your problem, but over the course of 10 years and 300,000 miles, I have had the intermittent starting problem many many times. Each time the dealer replaces something and the problem seems to go away for several months. I've had eight batteries, three starters, countless relays, new ignition modules and after each part replacement it seemed that they fixed the problem, only to find out it returns later. Lately I have found that if the car sits anywhere from a few hours to overnight, it'll start again without doing anything. Just my two cents worth.....

I should add that there is a plastic liner under the battery inside this tray, so you actually have to remove the plastic tray to see any damage.....

Well I live in Atlanta and we use zero salt down here. This car has 300,000 miles and has never seen a snow storm...... I think it’s from the junk Chrysler batteries (they’re made by Johnson Controls). On a side note, I’ve had about 12 incidents over the last 10 years where the car would not start, take it to the dealer (because I have a LifeTime Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty) and they always tell me it’s the battery or the starter or the Win Module. None of which have solved the problem, I’ve just learned to live with it......

So I just had my eighth battery in a car that 10 years old; I’d really be upset if six of them wouldn’t have been covered under warranty, but that’s another story. So after I picked up from the dealer, I decided to look at the battery to see how old it was. A quick inspection found the battery tray had corroded to the point of almost failing to hold the battery in place. My biggest disappointment was that the dealer was always trying to sell me extras I didn’t need, but never suggested replacing my battery tray. Much to my surprise, I found that it simply bolts in place and could easily be replaced. So I ordered one, and ordered paint used to protect battery compartments on small aircraft, after a couple of coats with the special paint I had a new battery tray installed for about $150 (the paint is kinda expensive for a quart). Since the battery on the Journey is tucked up in the drivers side wheel well, nobody hardly ever sees it. Next time you have your wheel off, check your battery tray. Happy Motoring.

Yes, this problem was solved by putting the dual piston calipers on from a 2012 or newer model. You can only do this if you're wheels are large enough to allow the larger rotor and caliper to fit. My '09 Journey has 19" wheels, so it wasn't a problem. I think you can get away with the larger hardware if you have 17' wheels, but you should double check, definitely won't work with 16" wheels. I think there is a thread pinned to the top for this problem, it's kinda long, but in there you'll find everything you need to know. With the original calipers and rotors I was replacing pads and turning rotors twice a year. Since I swapped out for the larger size, it's been four years and I'm almost ready to replace the pads. I got my caliper at a junkyard and bought new rotors, it's an easy do-it-yourself project and doesn't cost very much. I opted to only do the front ones, my back ones last pretty long. I’m sorry, but the Chrysler warranty does not have this limitation...... I mentioned that in my post.

I also bought the Lifetime Bumper-Bumper Warranty, back in ‘09 I think I paid $1800 for it. I think it was so cheap that year because in ‘07, ‘08 & ‘09 Chrysler vehicles came with Lifetime Powertrain, so the Bumper-Bumper warranty didn’t have to cover the power train. As the previous poster mentioned, it comes with a $100 deductible, but my dealer waves the $100 if I bring it there for my service, since I bought the car and the warranty there. That alone has save me the cost of the warranty. Many similar warranties expire when the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the vehicle, but that’s not the case with this warranty. I currently have almost 300,000 miles and still going strong, so we’ll see how far I can take it. My only fear is that someone will crash into my car, at this age it wouldn’t take much to total it and that would end the warranty. Hope this helps, Happy Motoring....

I had a similar problem with my ‘09. I’ve been through seven batteries in nine years and several starters. The dealer really has no idea and the last time it happened, they addd a ground strap to the engine block. I told them this can’t be the cause of my problems, if that extra ground strap was needed, it would’ve been there since new, and I, not sure how they came to that conclusion. But I have to tell you, I haven’t had a starting problem since then. Fingers crossed and we’ll see if the problem returns, I’ll keep you posted.

I would try a junkyard. For one thing you’d get a chance to see what another harness looks like (is it worn like yours)? If it looks in good shape, then I’d buy it. If it has the same problem as your harness, then you know there’s a problem and buying a new harness would end up with the same result...... Happy Motoring.....

I think what they mean is that it's a common problem with these Journey's. I looked at my brake hose and the metal bracket in question appears to be rusted, looks like it's not plated. So I would expect all of them to rust, and it'll be worse the further north you are. My sister has an '09 Caravan and it has the same problem with the rear calipers and her hose bracket is also rusted.....

Last year I received a recall notice for campaign S07 NHTSA 16V-047 regarding the passenger occupant restraint control module and a possible corrosion of the power supply integrated circuit. The recall notice stated that parts would not be available until second quarter of '17. Two weeks ago I received the same notice again, except this time, there was no mention of parts availability. So I called my dealer and they knew nothing about it, said that the customer will usually be informed before the dealer. Today I received a call from the dealer telling me that they do have limited parts, but the first couple of modules they've installed have taken almost two days. Mine is scheduled to have the recall completed in two weeks, I'll keep you updated. NOTE: This recall affects certain [2008- 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Grand Voyager, Chrysler Town & Country and 2009 Dodge Journey] vehicles S07.pdf

While it is possible to add the third row seating, there are a lot of pieces affected. Beside the seating itself, there are the rear plastic trim panels on both sides of the cargo area that need replaced. In addition to that, there is the addition of seat belts for the third row and then the second row seating must fold up to allow access to the third row. The seats that are in the second row, actually have the mechanism built in, but you'd need the handles and trim pieces to allow it to function. I'm sure it could be done, just know what you're getting into before you start the project....and as someone already mentioned, having a donor vehicle really helps as long as all interior colors and fabrics match and have faded at the same rate as your vehicle. I've not heard about a recall on the paint issue, but I can tell you that mine have both peeled to the point where I'm considering taking the rest of the paint off to make it look completely black (my Journey is Blue) and I also have a friend who has an '09 in the same color and his paint has also peeled off the mirrors.

Just a bit of an update on the KeyFob......here in the U.S. we had a recall for the Win Module back last year This recall was to replace the ignition switch with one that had a stronger detent so the key could not be accidentally turned off while in the switch. In addition to the new switch, the KeyFob's were also updated, this fixed the battery problem the original style had. However, with the new Win Module and KeyFob Chrysler somehow took away the ability for an owner to program his own key....meaning you Must have the dealer do it, and the KeyFob is not reprogrammable. I just had to have my Win Module replaced, which meant I needed new KeyFob's. I'm not sure if any of this applies to vehicles in the U.K., but I hope it helps.
