  1. I was wondering if it was possible to remove all of the OEM innards. While I'm in there I want to investigate making clear side marker reflectors, and replacing the OEM high beam/blinker section with a simple lamp that I can fit a switchback bulb into. White for DRL/running light, amber for blinker.

We'll see once I have it apart I guess.

That's kind of my stance too... we'll find out when we get in there. I'm still kicking around going with a quad set up in my head. Of course, then I would have to use the MH1 6.0's that I am currently using, so I'm not sold on it...

  2. I went ahead and ordered the mini D2S 3.0's (the square ones) for my next project... I think I am going to go ahead and just build all new lights (i.e., get rid of stock markers, blinkers and highs) and incorporate as much aftermarket stuff as I can into the housing. Thinking switchback halos and a switchback strip for sure. Not entirely sure what I want to do with all of the extra space that will be available if I axe all of the stock lights though.

  3. People find it strange that I know the Canadian anthem... Hear it so many times during the year, how could I not?!! Those Preds are some dirty little pricks this year. Lead the league in penalties and are taking liberties with everyone. Too bad the era of the tough guy is all but gone; I'd love to see someone take care of those guys and remind them what they should have to endure for being cheap.

  4. I see your hood is getting a big dump of the white stuff today. I remember reading in a thread that you got snow tires. So, how do you like them? Remember, you can now stop quicker than most behind you, so keep an eyeball on the rear view mirror for any doofi behind who can't stop. Might be able to move a few feet forward to miss getting smacked. Happened to me more than once.

    H.P.

Didn't get quite as much as they thought, but it was pretty slick last night. Zero issues so far. I didn't notice the slick roads like usual, so I am guessing they are working quite well. So far we have had 2 small events and they have performed as if the road was wet rather than snow and ice covered.

  5. It's honestly not hard to do, but I wouldn't wait 6/ months for someo e to build my lights. Mini h1 projector is way better than stock lights so its worth it in the aspect but if you did it yourself using your own lights u hVe now should run you 200-400. Double that tho if your going to pay someone. I orderd the anzo lights for.our journey and I'll be replacing the projector in those with the mini h1 7.0 in the new year.

Agreed. If you use the Mini H1's it is SUPER easy... I personally always buy a replacement set to work with, but it is still a lot cheaper than having them built buy a third party.

  6. I looked at these shortly after purchasing my DJ. I decided instead of paying for something to stick on and hope it works I'd try plastidip since I had a few cans sitting around. For $6 and about a half hour to an hour of time the plastidip has held strong for about 9 months now. Even with multiple dogs jumping in and out.

I have been meaning to do this since I bought the DJ, but was unsure if it would hold up to the dog... I guess now I will just spend the 30 minutes and get it done. Thanks.

The black plastidip is pretty subtle with the granite crystal, not to mention the fact that it's dirty hahaattachicon.gif_20151120_161811.JPG

I didn't expect it to last this long, specially since I didn't do a super thick coating. I also used frog tape which is why the edges look a little serrated. I didn't want to peal it just so I could see how long it could last... And it's still not pealing at all

Make sure when taping a line with dip that the first coats are lighter towards the edges and that the last coat is very wet and overlaps the tape well. You then need to peel the tape while the dip is wet. You will get a nice crisp line that way.

  7. I just can't believe how a 2 month old car with 6k miles and under full warranty and even bought the Maxuim care extended warranty brought to the dealership for a fuel leak is going to result in a comprehensive claim. My auto insurance policy doesn't currently doesn't even have glass coverage and my comprehensive is a 1k deductible. But like @bfurth it's probably something I could change on my own but for the year and to buy a fuel tank probably going to be a result of having to get the part from the dealership anyways. I find it perplexing how something supposedly so big and massive to impact the fuel tank and pop it (even though I never hit or ran anything over) and not cause damage to any other part of the vehicle like oil pan, exhaust etc.

I understand your frustration, but an automobile warranty is a promise by a manufacturer or dealer that it will repair or replace defects in your vehicle. Unless you can show that this is the result of a defect (which will be pretty difficult as impact is usually pretty obvious and not a claim that would typically be made when unsure) you're kind of SOL. This is very standard across the industry...

Have you seen the damage? Seems to me impact would show the damage going into the tank whereas if the tank gave out to pressure the damage would be going out of the tank.

  8. Were they worth it Cody? I like that guys work. I'm just not mechanically inclined enough to do these.

worth is really something each person decides for themselves... If you get a starter projector like the Mini H1, it really doesn't require any mechanical inclination to perform.

That being said, a properly done retrofit really provides for a nice driving experience and I can't get myself to drive a vehicle for very long without one. If I wasn't mechanically inclined enough to do it, I would seriously consider paying the price tag for a proper set.

  9. First off, the fog lights throw light EVERYWHERE. Please don't put HIDs in them, they will probably blind pilots in the sky they scatter so much.

I have LEDs in mine, but our fogs don't really provide much usable light, so they are really just running lights that match my retrofit in my headlights. The bulbs I got are great quality, but the oem "fog" lights really aren't fog lights at all. If you want something better, I would suggest changing the housing to one designed as a fog light. They are fairly universal and you should be able to find a number of them at different price points.
