  1. Good choice on the FWD over AWD......I see no sense in having all the extra moving parts and fuel econ sacrifice for .01% of the time you might actually need it.

.....and why is it someone is pushing the extra rear seating at over $1k+ when this is supposed to be a sporty crossover...not a minivan? I swear 9 out of 10 of these on lots have all the extra big buck seating. I too prefer cloth over leather due to interior temps while parked usually go real high and no more burning my butt on leather.

Ha! In Winnipeg you will definitely use the AWD more than ".01%" of the time... We have a VERY similar climate in MN and AWD, while not a necessity, is certainly nice to have when you need to get out before the snow is all cleared up...

  2. Please explain how, since the DRLs on the DJ run at half voltage. Running them at full power isn't a DRL and remember that when the turn signals are engaged the flashing side is extinguished and when the vehicle is in Park, they are both out.

Does the law explicitly state that they must run at partial voltage? I think they just run like that so you aren't blinding people with your brights. Regardless, you wouldn't want the HIDs on at full power aimed up like your brights anyway... so I see your point. With the right array of wiring and relays it COULD be done though.

  3. Check out the link bellow. I have them in my Journey and I love them. Fantastic quality and great fit. Less expensive than Weather Tech.

Here is my conversation about them here in the forum.

I saw those on Autoanything.com and was considering buying them. What are your impressions of them? Will the hold up? is the fit good (i.e., there are no gaps around the outside that will let stuff get by)? Maybe some installed pics would be helpful if you don't mind...

  4. :)

I plan to retrofit the headlights and need temporary lights for the project period. However, found 2014 HL, so no issue.

Where did you end up buying the headlamp assemblies? Brand? Price? I've been searching and it seems like the best I'm going to do is about $138 for a pair (actually a good price). They aren't oem, but since I'm putting a projector in anyways it doesn't really matter. Curious about the quality of the light you get. Please update us once you receive them and get a chance to open them up.

  5. They will not work on the high beams if you have DRLs. HIDs do not support dimming of any sort - they are either on or off or, quite possibly will flicker and burn out quickly if you try to run them on half-voltage.

And on the topic of HIDs in general (anywhere in North America), be aware that while you can plug in HIDs to any non-dimmed socket and they will likely operate, they are not road-legal and the reflector isn't optimised for them. The rules require that the headlight reflector and bulb assembly be SAE/DOT tested and approved as a unit. So if you get stopped and the officer is quick and knowledgeable, you could well wind up with a ticket for an equipment violation.

HIRs are road legal - but again; be certain that what you buy is a real HIR bulb. Even Philips is selling bulbs labelled as HIR that don't have the IR reflective coating required to make the bulb work properly - buy 'em from John Deere or as MOPAR OEM replacement bulbs for the Prowler.

I agree that HIDs should be done in a proper projector, but they can certainly be used with the DRLs. You will need some additional wiring and it is likely not worth the extra cost and effort unless you use your high beams a lot. Not to mention numerous short cycles will shorten the life of the kit. It looks like the DJ is fairly successful with HIDs (unlike some other Dodges), so I will probably do a projector retrofit on mine when spring finally comes around. There is nothing available now that can match the quality and output of light from a properly installed and tuned HID projector setup. Hands down the best lighting you can get.

  6. dfp57,

Sorry to hear you've been having this happen repeatedly.

The problem here is the extreme cold temperatures, it causes the P/S fluid to gel and create too much pressure and ultimately burst the lines etc.

I've been in discussions with the platform advocate for the Journey and he's been tracking this issue. So far each instance has been case by case, however the use of synthetic P/S fluid has been promising.

I'm confused... Don't all Chrysler product use AFT+4 for their power steering fluid? I thought it was made from a group III base, meaning it is synthetic... Or, at least semi-synthetic. What "synthetic" fluid is being used as a replacement?

  7. how much did that lifetime warrenty cost. i waws asking a salesman about it while i was picking up some oil filters the last time at the dealership and he acted like their was no such thing and then finnally said his dealership didnt offer it at this time, which i thought was b/s but didnt push it as i dont like that dealer any way. thanks for any info

I bought it when I purchased the vehicle new, so it is rolled into the payment. It added about $38 to my monthly payment over 6 years... Any vehicle that was sold when this warranty was an option should be eligible until 4 years/48,000 miles... In fact, my dealer sent me something asking if I wanted to add it to my 2012 Avenger just a couple weeks ago.

  8. I did my HID Conversion today and it worked out great, no flickering and no issues. This is the kit that I used. They are a really good quality brand and cost more than most.

Still no flickering issues? I have a projector retrofit kit that I bought for my 2012 Avenger. Now that I gave that to the wife and bought this I'm thinking about putting it on the DJ. It's hard to find any consistent information on HID conversion on this site, but historically Dodge's newer vehicles are a pain in the ass to install these on because on the fluctuating voltage sent to the light to run "self check"... Are DJ's using this same "technology"? The kit I have put together has a capacitor on the relay to help regulate voltage and I have resistors I can install... Is this what everyone is using here? I'd like to get working on it soon now that spring is getting closer...

  9. I've always used an LOC. Tap the speaker wires at the speakers. They make LOC's now that don't require a remote turn-on to be run all the way to the front of the car, you can use the signal from the speaker. Have one on my wife's Avenger and it works perfectly... I can try and remember to look up the model number, but it was by far the easiest LOC I've ever used and I will probably get one for the DJ when I get around to adding a sub.

  10. Just bought a 2014 SXT AWD on Friday. Loving it so far. Took it on a road trip a couple hours after purchase for a hockey tournament over the weekend. Much more pleasant of a drive with the extra room.
