Oh, it paid for itself; he'd have had to pay the $500 deductible AND be saddled with higher insurance rates for the next few years for having had an at-fault accident. And, if he'd gotten a ticket for his actions there might be additional costs for his driving permit - in my province they charge you more based on your demerits.

And since dash cams are as cheap as $25, they are great protection for the tory tellers among us who would write tickets for false offenses or make claims - I would personally like to have a system with spate dual cameras (mine has two, but they are both part of the assembly) and the second one would be nice to be able to record the back end at the same time a the front.
I've seen some new cameras that go into a 'sleep' mode and start recording if the vehicle is jostled - I imagine that would be useful for hit-and-run types, though not for the 'key your door' people.

Make certain that whatever you buy has a good enough lens to be able to record the license plate of any vehicle in front of you. Just because they say 1080, doesn't mean that the image itself isn't fuzzy - mine is like that - it makes a big, fuzzy file - I'd much prefer paying a bit extra for a decent lens.

Had a little bump on the front of my hood by a space cadet 14 yr old when he ran a red light. I was waiting to turn in a left turn storage lane when my light turned green and he appeared from a sidewalk that angled into the intersection from behind. Simply didn't see him. Impact less than 5 mph, but enough to put a 4 inch dent into the front of the hood. Not even a crack in the paint. Daddy tried to blame me after the fact, and I got called into our government run insurance people to give a statement. Usually these don't go well as they love to assess fault to everyone. BUT, I showed up with dash cam video burned to a DVD of the incident, proving I did have the green turn light. Completely exonerated by the adjuster on the spot and they even waived my 500 dollar deductible. My cost, zero.
Get this. Dodge Journey hoods are aluminum and a dent removal service I checked with said that aluminum hoods cannot be fixed. Insurance adjuster agreed. Cost for new hood, including paint, installation, changeover of washers and pads? Over 1900 bucks Canuck!
I must say my dealer had a hood in stock, painted it and installed 5 days after the claim made. Paint on hood is flawlessly perfect. Thank you Waverley Chrysler! Heck, the underside of the hood is better than the factory hood. Way smoother. I gushed to everyone that works there about the quality of the work. They like me there.
Nothing happens to the doofus. Yes a bad choice made, but also riding on the sidewalk (illegal here) and without a helmet too. (also illegal) At 14 he can't be prosecuted.
The moral of the story? Get a Dash cam! Plug it in, and let it run. It more than paid for itself with this one incident.

For the love of all that is internally combusted - JUST SAY NO to electronic PARKING brakes!
When all else fails, a cable-driven brake that runs actual service brakes (even if they are only the rear brakes) is infinitely more useful than a secondary parking brake (see: drum type brakes inside a disk brake rotor like the old 4th gen Grand Caravan). And I wouldn't trust an electrically driven parking brake to function when I need brakes 3 seconds ago.

I'm retired now and (as the photo above shows) I'm investing heavily in the hearing aid industry. I see so many cars in town (another reason I moved to the boonies) that you can actually watch the sheet metal deflecting outwards due to the air the speakers are moving...not to mention you can hear / feel them a block away. None of these kids will be able to hear anything by the time they are in their 30's... Hearing aid companies; the money makers of the future Keep 'em loud, I need to make enough money to buy that Prevost I've got my eyes on

It's done a little differently here in the US. In 2013 the Crew model was positioned just above the SXT Plus. The US Crew added leather seats, shifter and wheel as standard, along with heated seats and steering wheel, 8.4 screen standard (nav optional) and on the exterior, chrome roof rails, door handles, grille and the Crew badge. This was the only model in 2013 that you could get chrome-clad 19" wheels also. The vehicle sales code is JCDM49.
HockeyPuck - thank you for clarifying. I ran the vehicle report using the VIN he listed, and it shows as an SXT model. Nowhere in the options and equipment list does it denote that it is a Crew model except for the Crew badge that's listed amongst the equipment. I would have gone ahead and told him that he did indeed have a SXT had you not clarified how they are equipped for the Canadian market. Good info!
Here's a shot that shows the Crew badge. This was day one, at my dealership, just before I drove it home.

Let me try to explain this.
The dealer is right. Your "Crew" is actually a Journey SXT with the "Crew" package. 28L This included the deletion of the SXT rear hatch badge and replaceD with the Crew badge. As stated on your window sticker, it was a 2 grand option and included things like heated seats, power seats and so on.... In 2014 the "Crew" name was changed to "Limited" and it was set up the same way. The price went up to about 2.3 grand. On my window sticker it calls the Journey a Limited but it also lists it as a Dodge Journey SXT. with the 28L option package. I did not see that on your sticker but not sure if there is a variation on the French VS English stickers. Even on my Manitoba Vehicle registration papers my Limited is listed as a Journey SXT. Again, you got the Crew/Limited package on top of the SXT model.
The Limited model was discontinued in the US in 2015 (I think) but still exists in Canada even on the 16 model. They market it on the website as a model when in reality it is an add on to the Sxt model.
    Confusing, isn't it.

Already been into the mud! Didn't take a pic of the bike coated up to the seat post. Even though it was 15c outside, still managed to find a small bit of snow in the bush. Did manage to chase about 4 deer who were hanging out along one of the well travelled trails. Then got chased by a Canada goose who must have had a nest nearby! Love the critters.

yrs ago my dad had a clear bug deflector for a while and then wanted it to match his van so he cleaned it real good and then painted the back side of it and it looked great and the paint never chipped since it was on the back side....

I had a sunroof deflector on my 1984 Buick Skylark T-Type. It was held on with two screws. A threaded lock nut had to be attached to the roof, and it was a bit tricky. It worked well. I added a sun roof to my Nitro and never needed one. It was made by Infala, same company the Factory uses. I'm thinking of adding one to my DJ.
As far as bug deflectors go, my only experience caused a severe drop in mpg's. I have never bought another one. Very few bugs make it it to my windshield, so I think the slope of the leading edge of the hood is doing its job.

While we do love you like a brother, there are times you are a bit baffling and strange. This would make for exciting live TV, And I am sure there are many who approve, (Just read the comments section at the end of the story) While it might be a bit gory. Normally I'm not a fan of your never ending political process as ours lasts about 45 days from start to finish, even I would tune in to watch with a 3 day supply of popcorn! To quote one of your prominent politicians, Lindsay Graham, "my party is batshi* crazy" I suspect the rest of the saner parts of this planet just might agree.

We have had an incredible spring up here on the Canadian Prairie. Unusually warm and the snow is gone! Just yesterday it hit 15c (over 60f for those south of the 49th) and after a 2 hour bike ride in shorts, I came home an washed the journey, dried it and put into the garage. Today, a miserable day with cold steady rain. Turned on the heater in the garage, got out the Meguire's and now have a nicely waxed super shiny car! Glad I don't have to go out today.
