  1. I did the same thing, but I went with a 17 inch rim and a higher walled tire. Don't forget to check the equivalent tire size to match the rim size (should match the original 19" rim and tire height) or otherwise, your odometer and speedometer will be off. If you check the online tire stores, they will show equivalent tire sizes to the original. I hope I am making sense. mechanical-idiot
  2. David is right on. All of our dealers here in my area of Canada have their own body shops. Perhaps you could check a dealer there. One of the guys at the shop might even be kind enough to tell you a quick way to get it open. I am sure that you are not the first person to have this problem. mechanical-idiot
  3. I purchased the part at the dealer. I had a mechanic install it at a garage. It was a 3 hour job. There are lots of online videos about how to install one. Basically it is the same procedure for all vehicles. I got a 2 year warranty on the part. It is not worth buying a used one at a salvage yard. I could have saved some $, but would have spent it again on labour if the second hand one screwed up. mechanical-idiot
  4. https://www.youcanic.com/wiki/clock-spring One of the failure symptoms is a rubbing sound inside the cabin behind the steering wheel. Sounds like your problem. mechanical-idiot
  5. The clock spring is part of the steering angle sensor. I just replaced mine. Cost about 600 bucks Canadian at the dealer. 3 hours to put in. Not cheap. The sensor was screwed, but the buttons and horn still worked. mechanical-idiot
  6. You got a great deal. Glad that it all worked out for you. Our Traction Control Light was on, but we did not fair as lucky as you. We were hoping for a wheel speed sensor problem (cheap, easy fix) but it turned out to be the Steering Angle Sensor. About 20 times as much $ to fix it. Just our luck. While it was in the shop (local garage, not the dealer) , some dummy put the Hands Free Module fuse back in without inquiring why it was missing in the first place. We had it pulled because it was messed up and draining the battery. So, it killed another new battery. They denied having put it in. So, how the hell did a fuse suddenly get put back into the fuse box under the dash? Thank God that I decided to check it. I almost had it towed into the dealer because I thought it might be another drain that had to be found. That would have been an expensive fuse. I am so pissed off about some idiot finding a fuse missing from the box and replacing it without even asking the customer. Common sense would tell you to ask the customer why the goddam thing was missing in the first place. Common sense would also tell you to inform the customer about everything that you did to the vehicle. Don't get me started........ mechanical-idiot
  7. Time to get acquainted with your local service manager at the dealer. Fred is right. Don't waste your time, because you are going to end up at the dealer in the end. My original answer was not sarcasm. You have two separate issues with the vehicle. Likely coincidental, but I could be wrong since they run on one belt. GET IT TO THE DEALER! They are trained to diagnose and fix it properly. mechanical-idiot
  8. If you call the service department at the dealer, they should be able to tell you. If they don't, call another dealer. mechanical-idiot
  9. Any luck with the Viscous Unit check, Owlgirl? mechanical-idiot
  10. Any salvage yards nearby? They might even install it for you for an additional fee. They usually warranty the part for a period of time as well. They are always cheaper than the dealer. mechanical-idiot
  11. I would also suggest that you purchase the seals and fluid at the dealership. Don't buy that junk replacement stuff on ebay etc. You will be replacing them in a few weeks again if you do. mechanical-idiot
  12. Take the info from the clunk topic to your mechanic. Preferably a Transmission drive train mechanic at a Dodge Dealership to diagnose it. Then you can get it done anywhere. It would be nice to have it diagnosed by Dodge first. Just a suggestion. mechanical-idiot
  13. Could be this Owlgirl: Possibly the Viscous unit needs replacement if it is an AWD. Good luck with it. You can get it done cheaper by a mechanic, but I would buy the part at the dealer if I were you. You could get a used one at a salvage yard. I would't buy one on ebay. Please get back to us to let us know if this reslvled your issue. Please don't be a one post ghost. mechanical-idiot
  14. Your gas mileage will likely decrease. mechanical-idiot
  15. A co-worker of mine had his tires changed to brand new tires at the local Walmart. He drove about a quarter of a mile and two of his wheels came off his truck. Not one single nut was tightened on all 4 of the tires. He went nuclear when he went back to Walmart (compliments of a tow truck). The manager of the store went down to the auto dept. and he gave him a full refund for all the tires and let him keep them. You get what you pay for any time you have people working for minimum wage. They are not mechanics, just employees who often F up. And most of the time, they don't care. The manager fired the employee on the spot. I always change my own oil. Cheaper, and I know it is done right. mechanical-idiot
  16. They do that. Work fine, don't, work fine, don't. mechanical-idiot
  17. Click on DodgeCares above the Green D. Then click on the message button. Fill your boots. mechanical-idiot
  18. Got a picture of this that you can show us? mechanical-idiot
  19. I should have said Challeger, not Charger! What was I thinking!
  20. The best way to increase your MPG is to drop 10 km off your top end speed. Works great for me. I'm not into all this snake oil stuff. If I wanted a car that ran on a cup of gas a day, I would have purchased a Smart Car. If I wanted something to rip up the road, I would have bought a Dodge Charger. I also wonder what happens if my vehicle F's up and I take it to the dealer with all this extra crap installed on it. Will it void warranties or cause other repair issues? If you guys want to spend your money on this stuff, fill your boots. mechanical-idiot
  21. Got a heck of a scare this week. We were driving (just starting off) about 50 km/h (30 mph) when the dog suddenly jumped from the back seat into the front seat pushing the gearshift into P. We got this horrible clicking sound and I immediately pulled it back into D. I pulled over, and then started again and everything seemed okay. Our driveway is on a hill, so when we got home, I put it in P and it stayed, so I guess we didn't do any damage to the parking pawl. Thank God! Apparently the transmission has to be dropped to replace the pawl. A couple of grand if it breaks I have been told. I guess we were going too fast for it to engage. So, all is well. I didn't need another big bill, so I was very happy. I just wanted to post this to let other people know to be careful because the gearshift can be moved when driving. I guess the system will override it if it goes into reverse. It might cause a problem if you are going slow enough to engage the parking pawl when driving. Your trip could come to an abrupt stop! Be careful out there! mechanical-idiot PS. Yes, the dog is still alive. No volunteer Pawl Bearers (pallbearers) required. Pun intended! LOL
