  1. You may find good results with the following items.

My wife's Explorer had a not so good scent coming from the vents after we bought it. Took it back to the dealership three times and they just sprayed a "scent" to mask the odor. I finally told her I'd take care of it. Bought a can of this and used just half of it and the smell was gone and has not returned. Did a little digging online and found out you don't really need to buy this product, you could just use Lysol or some such disinfectant. I went with this because Lysol makes me gag worse that roadkill, and the stuff I bought came with the handy dandy tube to stick into the vents to get down deep.

    If the smell is in the fabric, try this;

I hunt and try to reduce my human scent as much as possible. This stuff really does work. I use it all the time, not just for hunting. I keep a bottle in the car all year long. When filling up at the gas station you sometimes step in the previous persons gas spill. A few squirts of this and the smell is gone in no time. I spilled some liquid from some artificial fishing bait (Berkley Gulp for those that fish) on a pair of gloves and wanted to see if this could handle it. I had to spray it twice, but it did get rid of the scent (I know, I could have just washed them, but where's the fun in that?). There are tons of brands out there, you don't have to use this particular one. I buy it in bulk at the end of the season for next season and to give to members of my family that just need to get rid of a stinky odor. Just google scent elimination.

    Hope this helps.

Call these guys and ask them.  They should be able to tell you.  They also have a live chat online.

    Good luck.

Nice link, never heard of them. This looks like it could be of some use to me in the future. Thanks for including it.

  3. Ok, update.

I figured I'd try just changing the bulb to see if that would satisfy my urge to "enlighten my Journey".(see what  I did there?)

I switched out the OEM bulb with a Sylivania Xtravision, link below.

I liked the output, it is much better than the original, but I think it could be better. Thinking of switching them to the Silverstar Ultras, link below.

    Haven't ruled out the HIR's.

Try it on another vehicle to see if it’s a reader problem or a port problem or a reader problem. I know you said “it worked over the years” but you don’t say the last time you tried to use it on another vehicle.

Hey partner, think you might have misread if your comment was for me. OR, and more likely, I could have been a little clearer. My reader still works, I was offering up what works for me as an example of what he could get. Sorry for the confusion.

retrofit a morimoto md2s projector into the stock housings

or if you want to just keep stock housings change your bulbs to 9011 and 9012 in place of the 9005 and 9006. if you search on google theres plenty of info on either option

do not put led or hid kits in the stock halgoen housings please

I've read enough here to know that is NOT the move to make already. Thanks for your suggestions.

  6. I want to spruce up the look of the DJ and thinking of replacing the stock lights with either one of these (or something similar).

Would it be difficult to do the manual labor part for theses? I do enjoy working on my vehicle, but I also know my limits. If it's as simple as swapping out housings(unplug one, plug in the other) then I should be good. If it involves splicing wires and stuff, I know this will only frustrate me and make the job actually seem like work and not a fun project. I know you guys say it's important when you change the housing to get the proper bulbs so I want to do it right the first time.

Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Haha yeah I definitely wouldn't be hunting in the Durango.  I've got the truck for that ;).  The Durango feels so much more dang smooth suspension wise and the new 8-speed tranny is amazing!  I was getting really tired of the DJ clunky tranny, this new one is like butter.  Can't even feel when it shifts.

To me, the most amazing part is still the killer gas mileage.  We gained almost 1000 lbs, and added AWD, and it gets the exact same mpg as the DJ.  Much better than the Traverse, Acadia, and Tahoe's that we were comparing against.

Oh, I'd hunt with a Durango, just not the Citadel. I firmly believe that if I get a truck I'm gettin one to USE, not to look pretty. It's gonna get dirty and have a ding or two in the fender or quarter panel from sliding in the mud on a trail in the woods. I am NOT parking at the far end of the parking lot, sideways taking up multiple spots just so nobody parks close to it and risk gettin a door ding or scratch.
