As stated, get the code read first before throwing parts at it.

You're correct. I was more focused on the advertised warranty.
@SashaP how they work out out for you. Look into the extended warranty... you do have 30 days to cancel this. Unless you got a good prove on it.

Check out   Crutchfield.com.  Installed a Kenwood DMX9706S in my 09. System isn’t what I would call plug and play, requires some prep (connecting wires to each other, programming the Maestro unit, etc) but I did all that on my work bench.  When I got in the car all I had to do was remove the old unit, cut a bracket, connect the wire looms together, and install the new unit.  In the car took about 45 mins.  Ran into 1 issue, called Crutchfield, they talked me through it.  Never hung up, never said call back.  I didn’t want the UConnect(it sucked, wouldn’t work with my phone, no help from UConnect) but kept steering wheel controls, hands free (new unit has its own system).  Love my Kenwood system.

As stated, thats an exhaust hanger. Nothing that would impact anything electrical. Check your brake fluid level and if it is low, inspect the brake pads, could be worn enough for the fluid level to drop to the point of triggering the brake light. Welcome to the forum.

worn out brake pads as well can cause the brake light to come on,at least it did for my daughters caravan a few yrs ago, was the rear brakes causing low brake fluid due to the brake shoes wore out

It seems odd that you mention it still unlocks and locks your doors but will not start it. I know there's a lot backend stuff going on in that little thing, but needing to buy a new one is frustrating.
Not sure if you have tried this one, but my mechanic buddy suggested this one. Says it helps on Chrysler cars.
While in the car with the doors shut, hit unlock, then lock, then unlock and lock again, and see if it starts. There was a lot more conversation as to why, but it supposedly re-established the connection to the FOB.
Hopefully it turns out to be something simple (and cheap), but let us know.
    Good luck...

Uh...I read most of the manual. You'd be surprised what they put on there. Very informative and nice when you are sitting in the car waiting for the wife or kids.
Would avoid a lot of those "Where is the fuse box?" Or "What's this light mean?" type of questions.

i don’t think it was the contacts since the malfunctioning buttons on the switch changed once i opened up the wiring in the door jamb. I really feel like there was a pinched wire and when i loosened it up it was good to go, but then i screwed something up on the driver mirror. Not sure if that was a switch issue or a wiring AND switch issue. The switch had to be at least partially at fault because the new one works. I did save the old one just in case. As of last night only the driver mirror left/right motion was busted on the old switch.

For 30 bucks that’s what Pops would call “a sore dinky. You can’t beat it.”

I think I'm ready to close this case. Two replacement switches arrived today so naturally I tried the cheaper option first, which I will link below. The cheapo switch works just fine, and the clicks on all buttons feel correct. Oddly enough, the Dorman (double the price) has a less responsive mechanical clicky feel to it, which I dislike. The Dorman switch also has a different (smoother) black finish to it. All functions of the switch are working. Auto down, up, all four windows, all direction in both mirrors, door lock/unlock, and window lock outs. The only thing I noticed is that the replacement switch has a slightly brighter blue light on the buttons. It is VERY hardly noticable.

Do I think there are still pinched wires in the door jamb? Yes. I still think that's gonna bite me in the ass down the road. But for now, the issues are resolved, and it only took 30 bucks. Plus I got to learn a thing or two about the fuses and wiring for this particular function of the car.

Probably a Ford. My son in law is a tech at a ford dealership and we get pretty much free maintenance work, lifetime power train warranty and a heck of a discount on buying vehicles with the ford family deal. I've already bought an F-150 from them. We'll see what happens when the wifes car is paid off or the extended warranty runs out, whichever happens first.

I'm waiting for the restyled Journey... it's coming right?
Seriously though, I went car viewing over the holidays (Jeep, Kia, Tahow) and scared the heck out of myself thinking about having a car payment again. If I did buy another vehicle, I'm buying a Range Rover for the wife (yeah, I know all the comments). With about 50% down, the payment will be just under $700...ewe.

Asking the same subject...I go an hour out of my way to go to a dealership or of my area for my Ford cars. They aren't as busy (or they're very organized), and they treat everyone very well.
    Good point made here ?

Just posted in the new members forum but it's worth it to put here as well.

I've had the pentastar SXT since 2012, purchased with 7k miles. It's made the journey (JOKES) from Boston to Orlando twice, Hilton Head Island, several trips to Brooklyn, countless trips up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I've had zero issues with it. I spent ten bucks on a thermostat last year, and did the battery and alternator a few months ago. Chrysler uses a beast of a battery for this one to have survived so long. I was annoyed with having to pull both front tires to get the battery and alternator out, but oh well. I think I spent maybe $300 for both, together. My blend door actuator clicked out so I pulled the harness to shut it up. Otherwise, it's been smooth sailing. I am truly blown away by the power and bulletproof nature of this car. I don't think I could have found anything better for my lifestyle and with 3 small kids to haul around. $300 in mechanical repair over 8 years and 160k miles...

    For the gripes:

The tires from the factory were horrendous. I forget if they were summer rubber but they did NOT stand up to a New England winter.
The ride is pretty soft, almost too soft for a midsize SUV. I feel like It's gonna flip off a ramp one of these days.
    Not AWD.

    Pros:

Power from the Pentastar is quite good. It's not a rocket by any means, but it pulls pretty hard especially when merging/passing.
Fuel economy, also far better than anticipated. I was up over 30mpg on my drive to Florida in May of 2019. It's usually "down" around 23 these days
The size. Not huge. Not tiny. Comfortable enough for my scrawny 6 foot frame to drive, with two car seats in the middle row and a child booster in the third row. I actually put all the seats down when I took it to Florida and slept in the back for a couple hours around the NC/SC border.
For factory equipment, this stereo absolutely pounds. No bluetooth in the 2012 but it at least has an aux input. My girlfriend drives a 2019 BMW and she's jealous of the sound the Journey puts out.
Price! I think I paid 20k for it, "used." 7k miles, sorry that's new for me. She was barely out of bed before I got her. I don't think it's possible to find something with three rows of seating, an efficient v6 making good power, and WILDLY GOOD reliability for 20 grand.

    The verdict:

I am so confused that these seem to have a bad name. This is by far the stand alone champion in terms of the cars I have owned. I've had a couple Cadillacs, a Corolla, Sentra, Escape, Odyssey, and 2 classic toys. The Journey puts everything to shame. It's really not even close. I would love to "upgrade" into something for ME, a true mid life crisis mobile, but I have no reason to get rid of this car. It's paid off, costs me nothing in maintenance, and fits my family. Get one.

i have mentioned it before but would be good to mention it again, BEFORE  buying or having any service work done check your dealership close to you, before having work done or buying parts as they all charge different prices and it could cost you quite a bit more if you dont,,, that said i was going to have my daughters jeep patriot trans fluid changed and after watching a you tube video on it i am not going to do it myself,so i called 3 different dodge dealerships and one was 230. one said it would between 200-300 wouldn't even give me a firm price and the one i am going with was 179 and also by the way it  is the same dealership i have used for the last 15 yrs and they do great work, but such a difference in price... also this just a fluid dump and refill as the filter is actually inside the trans so it is not serviceable  without removing the trans... the fluid is $25. a quart and takes 7 quarts according to the specs so actually the 179 is almost just the cost of the fluid.. and us journey people complain about having to changer a battery in a fender location.
