2013 Journey Glove Box Light Staying On

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you for reading!!

My 2013 Journey had issues in May including not starting without a booster, speedometer needle dropping (no loss of acceleration), flickering interior and exterior lights and the ABS, parking brake and traction control lights would intermittently flash and beep while driving. Apparently the mechanic replaced the battery cables but for the past 2 weeks I have been in the same situation.

When I am driving everything is fine until I hear the glove box light turning on and off. Then all the other symptoms begin. I was told by the same mechanic it is either a faulty wire or cluster gauge. I am hoping for a less expensive fix.

If anyone has had a similar issue please let me know what worked for you! IMG_5020.thumb.jpeg.7ee736567943da2481a2d3b022f91898.jpegThe glow of the light in the glove box after the car had been turned off and door was opened and shut again.

I would check all the body grounds to make sure they are making a good connection with No corrosion,,, also check your battery ground connector to make sure it is clean and tight as well ,,you could just remove the fuse for the glove box light or remove the build as it really is a joke having to have a light in the glove box to see if that helps out with your problems

Concerning disconnecting the glove box light.

That is the easiest part of your problems.

Drop the glove box down and out.

Look up and behind the switch and remove the bulb or disconnect the wire harness.

When battery gets low from a parasitic draw over night, lots of strange symptoms turn up. After disabling glove box light, if battery still going flat.

Check passenger side kick panel fuse panel for a hands free module HFM fuse, pull it out temporarily, 10 amp red I think. Most common parasitic draw on Journey is the blue tooth module not shutting off with the ignition. There are companies that rebuild them, or auto wrecker good source for used one.

Again, this is a prime example of LACK of posted information as to what trim level and engine size this problem DJ is for more accurate offers of help. So it has a glove box light{not all DJ's have one }, just as all DJ's do not have HFM, phone.

Would also be of great help to know just which engine size as the 2 have some very different "quirks", rather than offering an "overload" of possibilities.

YES  all good responses have been offered here but I also question the skills of the so called mechanic that has been helping the poster.

How do you hear the glove box light? Sorry, serious question. I to have had electrical problems and both times the alternator was the culprit

I hear a click/tap sound once when it is turning on and again when it is turning off. One is slightly higher pitched I guess you could say. It sounds like a switch I suppose

Thank you John I will try my luck with the fuse panel

Stop the presses! ,🎉🎉🎉

The picture posted above with the light in it. Is the passenger HVAC vent above the touch screen.

Orange circle in my picture below.

Nowhere near the glove box.

Green box.

We need a daylight clear picture with flash. Of that vent where the light is.

That is probably the actuators for the  climate system, a light bulb won't click.

Yes it was from the vent that you showed. My dad disconnected the power supply directly to the glove box earlier, no glow right now but I haven’t driven it or turned it on since he did that. Thanks for your help. I truly don’t know why you are so willing to help an internet stranger but I more than appreciate it. Nice to have a sense of community. IMG_5052.thumb.jpeg.bbace7b19f6487e7489f85aa6c88dc93.jpeg

NO problem, MANY folk post of problems but do not give important info UNTIL asked for it after many suggestions are given . Gut that just ends up confusing the person seeking help.

Now ok an SXT model with the 4 cyl. motor

Does the steering wheel have on it's LEFT side a button for phone? IF yes, then YES a common parasitic battery drain can be from the HFM as posted by member John. BUT if you don't have that button, then that suggestion will do NO HELP to you.

YES clicking sound is usually always one of the ventilation actuators which the most common one is for the recirculation door.

How many miles on this car and has the alternator been replaced since you have had it or have any record of it being done?  A bad alternator is a fairly common problem on the 4 xyl. motor to cause battery drain and electrical problems.

also as far as the clicking noise keep a close eye on which vent are working or not working as on the right side /passenger side you have 2 blend door actuators and when they work it turns on it regulates which vents work on that side ,,,defrosters, floor, dash vents,,they are controlled by the controls on the dash and should only be making a noise when you push the control for each one

Hey dodgejourneygirl if you don't have blue tooth in vehicle, cve Canadian value edition did not, forget about looking at fuse for HFM module.

Worry about clicking in dash if your defrost not working, otherwise ignore it. Outside vent is cycled by car for about two mins to dump moisture, normal.

Possible alternator issue, like mentioned... is something to explore. Need 14 ish volts going to battery with lots of options turned on. Have someone test with multi meter etc. Bad grounds that need cleaning up another thing to look at, you are in the rust belt and age of car becomes a problem. Electrical specialist over mechanic if you can afford it.
