Let us know how much it fits! I was considering one of these myself for long road trips. We have a trip to disney planned this summer and with 6 passengers I'll need all the space I can get!

I should have photographed everything that I packed into it, but as I took everything out of the carrier, I just handed it off to a family member who then carried it into the house. There were two soft carry bags filled with clothes, a comforter, a couple of kitchen bags with clothes, a couple of pillows and some smaller miscellaneous items. Anything that I could compress without breaking went up there first. If you have soft luggage then it might be a viable option. We would not have been able to fit all our stuff without it. I borrowed a Town and Country minivan last summer to move him up there, which fit everything comfortably. I calculated that we'd have enough room in the Journey with the addition of the roof carrier, and it proved to be just enough.

With six passengers, you'll need part of your third row seat as well, which seriously eats into your cargo space. The roof carrier might not be enough.

  2. Tempted to put at least one of my kids up there sometimes...lol!

It doesn't look like much in the photo, but the carrier makes a big difference when hauling the kinds of stuff that a kid takes to school. By loading up the coffin with soft, compressible items like clothing, pillows, travel bags and all, that frees up the tailgate for the bulky items like the fridge and TV. We were able to fit everything in the car and still have room for the four of us. The Journey continues to prove immensely versatile and remains a perfect fit for our family.

Try n to find out if u can flat tow a 2015 dodge journey front wheel drive...

It is not permissible beyond 15 miles and 25 MPH maximum speed.  Flat towing the vehicle will overheat the transmission fluid and burn up the transmission's clutches beyond these criteria.  A FWD Journey may be towed short distances with a dolly to lift the front wheels. AWD Journeys must be flat-bedded or trailered with all wheels off the ground.

You should be able to enter the VIN on the Dodge website and find out its point of origin, build release date etc.

If you supply me with your VIN I might be able to tell you, but our system primarily identifies North American-market vehicles. In the US, there was virtually no difference between 2009 and 2010 model year except for exterior color choices. Mechanically they were identical. It did not change here until 2011.

My son borrowed our crossroad, and when he returned it I checked the max speed on the navigation screen...129 mph!

All I can say the apple don't fall far from the tree.

I've seen those insane speeds logged on my own navigation memory recall screen, and I can tell you unequivocally that neither my wife or I have ever had the car north of 80MPH. I think I have gotten close a couple of times when overtaking a large truck just to get out of the left lane and back out of the way of the faster cars behind me, but my triple digit days ended with the demise of my dearly beloved Mazda 323 GT...and of my youth!

  6. I could care less what CR says. They've always hated most domestics, Chrysler products in particular. 72,000 miles later, our 2013 Journey remains completely reliable, even after major collision damage. We've only had to replace the radio under warranty due to a corrupted navigation map. The radio worked perfectly otherwise. The engine is strong and reliable, the transmission shifts normally, every feature works and the car has never failed to run any other way but completely normal. Fuel economy averages 22-24 MPG with our highway road trips always netting at least 28. 3.6 V6 w/FWD. The ride is quiet, controlled and comfortable, and the fit and finish have held up just fine. And while we're at it, my own daily driver is a 17 year old Chrysler 300M with 312,000 miles. I'm the original owner. The car has never seen  a tow truck, and every single feature right down the smallest light bulb still works. The staff at CR can call me anytime.

Assuming he could add the sales code it would certainly not void the warranty.  I don't believe (but I could be wrong) that they have any clue of vehicle's home state (beyond Cali emission compliance requirements) though they do know the country of delivery.

The state in which the vehicle was sold is disclosed on the Vehicle Information Plus report that all dealers use to determine all information about a particular FCA vehicle. I run a VIP every time a member here requests a sales code addition to make sure that it has not been already added. But the New Vehicle Warranty on U.S. retail sale vehicles is valid in all 50 States regardless of the state it was sold in.

My dealer refused to activate them with an out of state location code. (Said it would void the warranty and if he changed it it could come back down on him)

Would you be able to help me out with the DRL's?

    My VIN is 3c4pdddg3et278886

    2014 52k

I rechecked this evening as per your request, but sales code LMK is still absent from my list of available sales codes to add. I have a feeling that it will not be back...it's gone much longer this time around than the last time it was removed.

There is no such thing as voiding a warranty due to the addition of a sales code. Your warranty cannot be legally voided for this reason.

    From the Warranty Policy Manual:

FCA US will restrict all or part of a vehicle's eligibility for warranty service when we believe that the vehicle has been so extensively damaged or modified that it cannot be repaired to conform to our manufacturing standards.

These vehicles when sold at auction or through FCA US, will have a disclosure statement indicating the warranty has been restricted and the condition, which caused the restriction.

We will also restrict all or part of a vehicle's eligibility for warranty service when we discover that the vehicle has a salvage title or was an insurance company write-off, based on vehicle registration information received from approved other sources.

We may also restrict the warranty on a vehicle that is not manufactured for the country in which it is sold, or which is exported in violation of FCA US policy.

We may also restrict repairs on certain components i.e. engine/transmission, etc.

  9. 68080977AC supersedes to 68080976AC which is valid from 2011 to 2017 model year applications. I cannot see why a 7 pin wire is the correct application since the vehicle is rated to tow 2500 lb maximum and would not require a 7 way round connector which is used for higher capacity brake systems found on trailers whose weight exceed the vehicle's towing capacity.

When you say failed - was there no power at all at the end of the four way plug which attaches to the trailer?

    Okay. I'm sorry.

I don't have a dealer yet and I thought maybe the journeyman425 might know becausehe works for one.

I will just call a nearby dealership and ask.

Again, I'm sorry. I seem to be asking all the wrong things and ruffling feathers. Definitely not my intent.

No feathers ruffled here. This forum is where you go to ask questions and get answers. We're here to help!

This is copied from my Warranty Administration manual:

"Vehicles with a Restricted Warranty Guidelines

    Published 01/10/2011 04:44 PM   |    Updated 03/26/2015 03:07 PM   |    Answer ID 1867

What does it mean when a customers Basic Limited Warranty is restricted?

YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED for any repairs performed on a restricted vehicle or component when the repairs made were within the scope of the restriction.

CHRYSLER WILL REIMBURSE you to perform any open safety recall campaigns and to replace an emission component on a restricted vehicle, provided the cause of the failure IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN MATERIAL, WORKMANSHIP, OR FACTORY PREPARATION THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO FAIL TO COMPLY WITH EMISSIONS STANDARDS."

My interpretation of this is that a recall claim will still be paid to a dealer despite a complete warranty restriction. Just to clarify, I made a specific inquiry about the one outstanding recall - R61- which is open on the Journey that you wish to purchase. When I receive a response, I will confirm that this information is correct.

There are two ways you can proceed with this outstanding recall: 1) Contact FCA once you have taken delivery of the car, and contact the recall department and have them put you in touch with a local dealer to schedule the recall work. This is usually done in a three way call between FCA, yourself and the dealer they contact. With you on the phone, they will confirm that a dealer will accept the work and schedule your appointment.  2) If the ABS light is not illuminated, simply drive the car. The recall involves sealing an eyelet ground connection which has the potential to wick moisture into the wiring and subsequently into the ABS module which could cause it to malfunction. This may never happen. If it does and the cause is due to the condition outlined in the recall, then have the recall done. They never expire and remain in force as long as the car is on the road regardless of time and mileage.

Whether a dealer will service your car due to the warranty restriction is their discretion. It shouldn't matter since you, the customer are responsible for  any and all charges. We don't turn away vehicles due to a warranty restriction, but that is our policy and it may differ from dealer to dealer.

  11. I checked the VIN that you supplied - this is a 2013 Journey Crew, White, front wheel drive. If you haven't already, please check Carfax - this VIN has a warranty restriction from the factory, which tells me that at some point it was declared a total loss.

It does not have DRL enabled. I will explain further about the sales code when I have a chance. Just wanted to get this out to you before I get busy for the day.

Hello. Is there anybody who can check/add LMK code to my VIN? I've tried to my local dealer with no success. He checked in Vehicle Option Updates, but code doesn't exist there. Maybe should looking somewhere else?

    My VIN is: 2C4RC1CG4CR291867

    witech.JPG

That is the correct area. The code is no longer there for dealers to add. Just to be sure, I double checked just now on the DealerConnect page.

At one point FCA re-instated the LMK code for us to add, and then removed it again. I keep checking periodically to see if it comes back. If it does, I will update you all.

  13. Your Journey uses something called an Intelligent Battery Sensor which helps control the charging system. It is located on the negative battery cable terminal end. After it is disconnected and reconnected, it goes through a recalibration procedure. This is from the service manual:

    OPERATION

The Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) contains a low value resistor, or shunt. The shunt creates voltage drop, which is read by an internal microcontroller to determine the current flow in and out of the battery. In addition to the shunt, the IBS contains a sensor to monitor the battery’s temperature. Data gathered by the IBS, including temperature, voltage, and current measurements, are transmitted over a LIN communication bus to either the Body Control Module (BCM) or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), depending on the application. The IBS serves two primary purposes. The first is to provide the Powertrain Control Module (or PCM) with both immediate and historical battery information, so the PCM can precisely control the charging system. The second purpose is to provide data to the BCM for operation of the load-shedding feature. A fused power circuit and the LIN bus are connected to the IBS though a two-terminal connector.

In addition to real-time measurements, the IBS transmits some calculated battery data over the LIN bus, including state of charge, state of health, and state of function. These values are calculated by storing measurements over time.

The battery sensor is readable/diagnosable via a “scan tool” that can display all of the available parameters needed for vehicle servicing or trouble shooting.

Information the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) transmits out on the CAN Bus is

    • SOC = Battery state of charge (or SOC) is expressed as a percentage. The IBS calculates the SOC based on measured voltage, and charge and discharge rates. Therefore, SOC is not a direct percentage of battery voltage.
    • SOF = Battery State of Function: Battery state of function (or SOF) is a calculated prediction of the lowest voltage the battery will drop to during engine cranking.

The PCM and BCM use this calculated information to optimize vehicle power management for increased fuel efficiency. The data transmitted from IBS is interpreted and sent over the CAN network by the module connected the IBS’s LIN bus.

When the IBS is powered up for the first time or is powered after a power disconnection, it enters a “recalibration” phase, where the IBS must recognize the type of battery and its characteristics and state. In this phase the tolerances on the state functions (SOC, SOF) are greater than in normal working condition. When IBS is disconnected from the battery, the device loses its stored memory. When power is restored, the IBS starts a relearn process. Until the relearn process is complete, accurate battery state information is unavailable to other vehicle systems. The IBS relearn process requires five normal, operator initiated starts with at least four hours normal or more during cold ambient conditions of engine off time between each start. Usually, the process takes a few days of vehicle operation to complete. Remember, the relearn process is restarted every time power is reconnected to the IBS.

If the IBS is faulty it cannot be serviced, it must be replaced.

Journeyman425, just received similar codes, P0203, P0303.  In your experience on working on the 3.5L (Journey SXT 2wd), do you suggest going right for the fuel injector or doing step by step - fuel treatment, spark plug, plug wires, then fuel injector?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for the above diagrams.

How many miles on your 3.5? If you have P0203 and P0303, that indicates fuel injector control circuit and cylinder misfire #3. Service Manual possible causes for P0203 are as follows:

    Possible Causes

FUEL INJECTOR 3 CONNECTOR OR WIRING
(F342) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT
(K13) INJECTOR 3 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(K13) INJECTOR 3 CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE IN THE (K13) INJECTOR 3 CONTROL CIRCUIT
    FUEL INJECTOR 3

    POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

You can swap two of the injectors side-by-side and see if the problem follows the injector. If so, replace it and the associated spark plug. If the misfire remains on #3 fhen follow the diagnostics as outlined above.

  15. Our 2013 Journey Crew has been very reliable for us. Like many others, we had to have the radio replaced. The unit functioned perfectly fine other than a corrupted navigation map which required the replacement of the radio to correct. We have 67,000 miles on the car and that is really the only problem we've had with it. No warning lights, no ominous noises, and it runs smooth and straight.

It is worth noting that this car was in a major collision at 30,000 miles which required the nose of the car to be replaced and some welding of the driver's side frame rail (yes it's unit body but it's the structural component to which the engine and some of the suspension it bolted to). Even with that kind of damage, the car came back to us in perfectly good working order, and we've more than doubled the mileage on it since that work was done with no issues.

I am a dealer service manager, and I still purchased a Mopar Maximum Care lifetime service contract despite the fact that I receive discounted parts as a dealer employee. Some of these components are very expensive as was mentioned in an earlier thread - like the aforementioned radio - and you can recover the cost of your contract in as little as one major repair. Plus, if anything should happen to me, all my wife has to do is pay a $100.00 deductible on any covered repair (and Maximum Care excludes very few items) for as long as she owns the car.

We've had very good experiences with our Chryslers. My daily driver is a 2000 300M with 309,800 miles, my 18 year old son drives a 1999 300M with 142,000 miles. Both run perfectly with no warning lights or odd noises. The Journey has been fine so far as I said. You do NOT have to purchase your service contract from your selling dealer. You are free to shop around as bramfrank suggested. Your dealer told you what they did in an attempt to keep your business in-house. A Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan is good at ANY FCA dealership.

  16. My 2013 FWD Journey fuel gauge will read differently depending on where I fuel up. The local filling station is on a hill. The pumps are not quite on level ground. If I fill up with the nose pointed downhill, the gauge will read under the full mark even after moving the car to level ground and cycling the key. If the nose is pointing up, the gauge will read past full. If the car is level ( different station), the needle will just make it to the full mark but not go past.

Thanks for the info Bram.  I took a look at the build sheet and it said nothing about DRL's.  So no DRL's.  I talked with the dealership.  I talked to the sales department Manager and he was dumbfounded that the sxt model I had did not have DRL's or Siriusxm.  I told him it was strange that on the radio screen that it has the button to turn off or on and the vehicle does not actually have DRL's that that if something happened and the person thought that they had DRL's and actual don't and he interjected and said yeah Dodge could be looking at a big lawsuit if that happened.  I agreed.  Thanks for your helping me find out.

I am a dealer service manager. I've had this conversation with several people at FCA as to why the vehicle shows the feature in the radio screen, allows it to be seemingly toggled on and off, yet the car may or may not have them. No one has been able to give me a factual answer. If you read through this thread from the beginning, you will see that I have had some success adding the proper sales code which allows the DRL to be activated once the vehicle is reconfigured at the dealership. Over the last few years, the sales code has been removed from the dealer website (DealerConnect) by FCA, put back, and removed again with no explanation. I monitor it periodically and will announce its return in this thread should that ever happen.

The dinging when the key leaves doesn't annoy me so much... I'm glad for the notification.  What's annoying to me is it continues to ding even after the key re-enters the vehicle and I have to turn the vehicle off and restart it for the dinging to stop.

You may have a low key fob battery that prevents the vehicle from immediately recognizing that the fob has returned to the passenger compartment. Switch FOBIKS and see if the problem disappears. If so, then replace the battery in your original FOBIK, preferably in both. If not, you may have a faulty antenna which is not detecting the FOBIKS' movement.
