  1. So if the lights don't come on, don't bother going to the dealer for the recall?

What I meant was don't schedule an appointment yet to have the recall work done - there are no parts avaialble yet or any technician instructions posted yet for the repair procedure. However, if your Journey has an ABS light on, you can schedule it for repair, since it could be on for a wide variety of reasons besides recall-related ones. Once the recall parts and procedures become available, a follow-up recall letter will be sent to you, at which point you may then schedule an appointment to have the recall work done.

  2. ^^ JM. Have you seen ABS issues in 2011 models that are somewhat similar to this? My ABS light comes on for a few days at a time and goes off. It seems random.

I have not. However, your issue sounds more to me like an intermittent ABS wheel speed sensor. If there is a loss if signal from one or more wheel speed sensors, it will trigger an ABS light which will go off once the sensor begins to read the wheel speed again. There should be a stored fault code in the ABS module. If the car is scanned with the light on it will tell what area the problem lies In.

  3. Recall R61 was just announced on Dec. 7. This is a copy of the interim letter sent to owners of affected Journeys. I don't know what part(s) will be required to make the repair yet..that has not yet been announced:

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL R61 / NHTSA 15V-675 This notice applies to your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).
This interim notification letter is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Dear: (Name) FCA has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2012 through 2015 model year Dodge Journey vehicles.
The problem is... Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module on your vehicle may have a ground wire eyelet on the right front shock tower that allows water to wick through the ground wire case and into the ABS module. Moisture in the ABS module could disable the ABS and/or Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system(s). The lack of a functioning ABS and/or ESC system(s) could change the braking and/or handling characteristics of the vehicle and cause a crash without warning.

    What your dealer will do:

FCA intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). However, the parts required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition are currently not available. FCA is making every effort to obtain these parts as quickly as possible. FCA will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when the remedy parts are available. What you must do to ensure your safety... Once you receive your follow-up notice in the mail, simply contact your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or RAM dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. If you need help... If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact the FCA Recall Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403.
Please help us update our records by filling out the attached prepaid postcard if any of the conditions listed on the card apply to you or your vehicle. If you have already experienced this specific condition and have paid to have it repaired, you may visit www.fcarecallreimbursement.com to submit your reimbursement request online or you can mail your original receipts and proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement consideration: FCA Customer Assistance, P.O. Box 21-8004, Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8007, Attention: Recall Reimbursement. Once we receive and verify the required documents, reimbursement will be sent to you within 60 days. If you’ve had previous repairs and/or reimbursement you may still need to have the recall repair performed on your vehicle.

If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge and within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, DC 20590, or you can call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov. 4. We love ours - 2013 Crew with all options except DVD. Our kids are 13 and 17 and we're never wanting for more space. Exceptional ride and handling, quiet, powerful and economical - 24 MPG combined average most of the year, drops a few when it's really cold. I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to. 50,000 miles, only defect was the radio (common). Survived a major accident with no injuries to my wife and the car still drives perfectly.

  5. Fooled me too, JK ...thought you were on the side of the road somewhere. Then again, you drive a Journey! :)

I went ahead and bought four new 225/55/19 Kumho Solus KH16's today as well. We had a tire deal going with Mopar TireWorks where you buy three at the regular price and the fourth is $1.00. My cost on these tires is $168.50, so I saved $167.50 on the set with this deal. I was tempted to go up to 235/55/19 and put on Michelin Pilot HX's which I've had on my 300M in 225/55/17 but they're a lot more expensive. The Kumhos are every bit as good overall as the Michelin except in the snow, where the Pilots are outstanding. The Kumhos tend to spin on acceleration rather than bite. But I don't usually have enough snow here to warrant the extra cost. And at 50,000 miles, there is still good tread left on these Kumho's. I'll keep them on for a few more weeks and when the weather really worsens, then I'll change them.

  6. I aim for the puddles!

    Welcome ladybug.[/quote

My wife makes fun of me because I drive in the opposite side of the road sometimes to avoid puddles altogether...this of course is after I've finished detailing our Journey. It might mean running a few drivers into a ditch here and there but hey - I gotta keep her clean!

(Of course I'm only kidding about the ditch part but if I don't insert a silly legal disclaimer here I might get sued...)

  7. The sound you hear is the spray of water off of the tires onto the plastic rocker panels that run under the doors between the front and rear wheels. The rocker panels run into the interior under the doors and tend to amplify the sound of the spray as it hits the outside of the panel. The sound is much louder in our Journey than it is in our 300M, and like you, it startled me the first time I heard it but I quickly grew accustomed to it. It's normal.

  8. Priell3 - added your sales code.

Johnnyh - code LMK is not available for me to add on 2016 models. I have a customer with a 2016 Ram 1500 that wants DRL and I can't do it for him either because code LMK is not present in the 2016 code menu. Called four different departments at Chrysler...no answers yet. This happened in 2014 also and it mysteriously came back. I'll try for you again periodically.

  9. I doubt it turns off the horn in this instance as it is warning you that the lock sequence failed... That, and the actual issue isn't the honking, it is that the doors are unlocking.

Correct. Regardless of the customer preference setting for the horn, if the car detects a FOBIK inside the vehicle after depressing the inside door lock switch as the manual states, the horn will still chirp three times to alert you to the FOBIK inside the car. Or not, in this case. Sounds to me like a faulty antenna (there are four) or the RF Hub itself.

I did actually have this happen to me once a couple of months ago. Both FOBIKS were in our camper about 30' away. I locked the door using the inside driver door switch and walked away. A few seconds later, the horn chirped three times and the doors unlocked. I re-locked the car and it stayed locked and has never happened since. There may have been a phone or two inside the car, charging (we were on our camping trip; normally the phones are not left in the car) I wonder if one of them broadcast a signal which mimics that of the FOBIK itself. That is the only time it ever happened.

I checked for new STAR cases tonight, but there are none. I have not had any customers complain of this problem with any other Chrysler vehicle which uses Keyless Enter -N- Go.
