    UPDATE :
after a lot of fussing and arguing with both the dealership and customer care I did get the tow package active for free. The biggest problem was the dealership wasn't understanding exactly what I needed done. Now everything works great so if anyone else is having trouble just KEEP CALLING customer care and your local dealership !!!

I wonder what the deal is, hope you get a refund, paypal is usually pretty good about stuff like this and is why we use paypal when we can.good luck !!!

biohazard got a reaction from larryl in Rear LED lights not working with towing wires
just to update I was looking at the wire harness that came with my 2013 journey as we got the TOW PREP PACKAGE and noticed that the harness comes with all the necessary relays to bump up the power for the trailer lights. I think this was a flaw that was discovered when they first went to the LED lighting and corrected with this harness. Also the harness does not plug into the lights itself like my 2010 DJ but there is its own connection located at the rear of the car that bybass the lights all together. If i didnt have this harness it was going to cost me another 70 bux in parts to have the wiring done at a shop so if you have any possibility of wanting to tow the TOW PREP PACKAGE is well worth the money as you get all the proper relays along with the extra oil cooler...

biohazard got a reaction from rolly in ok i do want to believe that towing cap of 2500lb but look at this .
That is total weight between the car and trailer together (GVWR)... the stock GVWR of the 2013 dodge journey with the 3.6 is 5,600LBS. That is total capacity that the car can weight fully loaded with passengers and luggage. now add the tow prep package the max trailer you can tow is 2500LBS but the GVWR jumps to 8100 LBS. That is the total wieght of the car and trailer that can be towed safely. Its all in how you look at the weights but you need to compare apples to apples.....
PS : even thought the GVWR is 8100LBS there is still a MAX on the trailer of 2500LBS.. you cant put less in the car and add it to the trailer as the drivetrain itself can only handle so much weight being pushed on it while braking and accelerating. Trailer brakes will affect max towing capaicties and can allow you to increase your max trailer weight but if there is ever an accident and you trailer weights over the 2500LBS then you will be in big trouble with the police and also your insurance will not cover you so use this with caution !!!!!

    So let's recap this thread.
You blame Dodge for lowering the tow ratings on the Journey after a redesign. Don't really seem to be too upset with dealer in first post, just Dodge's fault. Then the dealer is blamed for lying to make a sale. Also, false advertising is alleged when nowhere is it advertised or printed by Dodge that the tow weight is anything other than 2,500 pounds. Lastly, it is clear that you know what the tow rating of your vehicle is at this time and you will choose to ignore it.
Seems to me you started this thread to boast you tow more than what the vehicle is designed for, as even the thread title indicates as much. Now it's all American car manufacturers are struggling because they are deceiving their customers. I find that ironic, considering you started this thread to deceive people that they could tow more because you did it.

Dont post on a forum if you dont value opinions !!!! the fact of the matter is that car sales men, and yes even dodge dealer directors will tell you want you want to hear to make a sale. Im not generalizing and saying that all are bad and YES, some will lie to your face and in the end its your car and if something ever happens where they say you voided your warentee and abused your car then you got nobody to blame but yourself. Will something happen, who knows, but im sure if something does go wrong that same dierector will be the first to say that the manual only says you can only tow 2500 lbs !!!

biohazard got a reaction from Rtitus in GPS On New 2013 with 8.4" screen, how do you acquire the software (Garmin?)
you have to pay for it when ordering the car.. you need to upgrade the radio to the 8.4N by clicking the NAV/Safe and Sound Group, at least thats how you get it in canada. Its an extra 1200.00 option.... If you are ordering one that is on the lot then you have to settle with what options it has. I would suggest ordering one and add the options you want to.
