    CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION R65
This notice applies to your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).
    Dear: (Name)
At FCA US LLC, we recognize that the success of our business depends on the satisfaction of our customers. We are constantly monitoring the quality of our products and looking for opportunities to improve our vehicles even after they are sold. Because your long-term satisfaction is important to us, we are contacting you on important improvements we would like to make to your vehicle. This will be done at no charge to you.
We are recommending the following improvements be performed on certain 2014 through 2015 model year Dodge Journey vehicles equipped with an 8.4 inch screen navigation radio.
    The problem is...
The navigation system on your vehicle may experience a condition which permanently renders the navigation features not functional as a result of memory corruption.
    What your dealer will do...
FCA will repair your vehicle free of charge. To do this, your dealer will check the radio navigation functionality. If the navigation is found to be functional, the radio and navigation software level will be checked for the latest version. If the software is found to not be up to date, the radio control head will be reprogrammed with updated radio and/or navigation software. If the navigation is not functional, the radio may require replacement. If a replacement radio needs to be ordered, the dealer will need to schedule a return visit once the replacement radio arrives. The work will take about 1⁄2 hour to complete. However, additional time may be necessary depending on service schedules.
    What you should do...
Simply contact your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or RAM dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Please bring this letter with you to your dealer.
    If you need help...
If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact the FCA Group Recall Assistance Center at either fcarecalls.com or 1-800-853-1403.
Please help us update our records by filling out the attached prepaid postcard, if any of the conditions listed on the card apply to your vehicle. If you have further questions go to fcarecalls.com.
If you have already experienced this specific condition and have paid to have it repaired, you may visit www.fcarecallreimbursement.com to submit your reimbursement request online or you can mail your original receipts and proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement consideration: FCA Customer Assistance, P.O. Box 21-8004, Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8007, Attention: Recall Reimbursement. Once we receive and verify the required documents, reimbursement will be sent to you within 60 days. If you’ve had previous repairs and/or reimbursement you may still need to have the campaign repair performed on your vehicle.
We apologize for any inconvenience this service may cause to your schedule. FCA is committed to providing our customers with world class quality products, ensuring that you have a positive dealership experience and following up on any issues and concerns that you may have in a timely manner through our Customer Assistance Center. Thank you for being our customer.
Sincerely, Customer Service / Field Operations FCA US LLC

There is a way to restore maps to the unit (with, or without a cost, depending on the route you care to follow and how technically adept you might be), but even if your warranty has expired you *ought* to be able to get Dodge to fix it free since this is a persistent defect that began before the warranty expires (expired?) and was covered by an ineffective recall.  By the way, you ca download all the firmware and other updates you like from the uConnect web site - you've lost your maps and they are not included in any free download.

You don't need to replace the radio, just reload the mapping.  Once you've set up to reload the maps you can simply do it again when (not if) it loses them again.

On my last Journey, which had the small screen I simply put in a Garmin 3790, which is small and has voice recognition.  Because it didn't have an overhead console I put it above the mirror and fished the cabling down the passenger side roof pillar and connected it to the fuse block behind the glove box.

If you have an overhead console I beiieve that the smaller (4.3") Garmin devices (the 3790 is a 4.3" device) can be wedged into the glasses case and the wiring run down from there.

It MAY be possible to find switched power in the roof liner, which means that you wouldn't have to run the cabling down to the fuse block, but I'm not certain.

The mention of the inop nav system is what the "Can't unlock maps" error addresses.

    3 hours?

What did they do for 3 hours?  If you have the message on screen they order a new radio.  By now it is SOP and should be in the computer.

Why do people put up with this kind of service?  I had my sunroof fixed in 1 visit when it leaked .  The dealer replaced the entire freaking thing because they knew I would keep coming back until it didnt leak!  You pay big money for something new, it better be right or fixed!  If they refuse to fix it, keep going in.....

    It will cover the replacement.

But this should come as no surprise.

You should note that since you live in Quebec, you can sue in small claims court for the cost of a radio (you'd have to buy it, then sue) even if the warranty expires.  You have the right to have the unit work for a 'reasonable amount of time' and just because the manufacturer says the warranty expired doesn't mean he isn't obligated to replace the radio for free  . . . . with threads like this one you will win in court AND you will probably break the failure cycle.

Your radio fails because FCA is putting units that have previously failed into your vehicle.  MY radio has never failed (I may be tempting fate by saying this, of course), and probably a large majority of owner's radios have never failed.  But those who own vehicles where the radios have failed seem to repeat the problem on a regular basis . . . . .

Read a couple of my recent posts in this thread if you want to see more about the issue.

But it does work as advertised.  It just suffers from periodic memory corruption, and it crashes a whole lot less often than any computer I've ever owned.  How about a class action lawsuit against computer manufacturers?.

Were you having problems before you did the flash?  Did you check to see what was fixed by the new release?  There's a saying we use in the high tech world; 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.  You CAN roll back the radio firmware by reflashing it with the version you had before.  I have copies of the last few firmware versions for the rev-3 hardware - what year is your Journey?  What firmware did you install?

The Journey is an older design and so is it's entertainment system.  They can't install the new and it has little to do with the wiring and lots to do with integration with the vehicle's computers.

You won't see anything major changing with the RE2/RB5, but the 8.4A will get a big facelift - but we don't have the 8.4A.

As to you not being able to make calls with your phone.  Delete the phone and from uConnect and delete uConnect from the phone and then try to re-pair it. Unfortunately Apple's last 2 operating system releases do not implement the BT profiles properly and to be fair, it was actually Apple that broke the system, not uconnect.

Yes.  You just acquire the RB5 module and plug it in.  You will need t procure an unlock code for the new radio.  If you have an active Sirius subscription on your current radio you simply call in and have it transferred to the new.

Then, be aware that lots of people are selling radios that they claim have the navigation feature, but don't.  One member here bought THREE separate radios from THREE separate sellers and not one had the navigation option - in part because there are many, many different part numbers out there and there is no universal decoder ring to tell you, as a buyer whether what you are getting has or doesn't.

Then there's the simple fact that there are 3 versions of the RB5 in circulation - while the newest is the most desirable (it has access to traffic and it's maps can be updated relatively simply), it also is the one that suffers from a 'can't unlock maps' issue.

Also, you will not have access to Siruis' Travel Link service in an upgraded installation.  Not fatal in this era of smartphones, but just one more issue.

I did the upgrade and have no complaints.

    The newer the better...
For the screen, p/n 5064993AI is the same for the 2011-2015 Journey.
For the radio, the part numers have changed each year, I would stay with the 2014 to best match your vehicle (68210554AE)
The suffix change on part numbers (such as AG to AH) typically signifies a minor change/update. A totally new part number is a more significant change.
2011 Radio 5091135AG superseded to AH
    2012 Radio 5091038AF superseded to / AG / AH / AI / AJ
    2013 Radio 5091367AE superseded to / AF
    2014 Radio 68210554AE (also 68210554ZE or 68210554ZH)
    2015 Radio 68240130AA
    For reference:
MSRP on the 5064993AI screen is $1410 (U.S.) and $1900 (Canada)
For some reason pricing is not listed for the 68210554AE radio. Early model year radios have listed for around $1200 (U.S.) and $2000 (Canada).

There is no update because  Dodge and Uconnect dont care, we already bought the car.

I have an Iphone 7 running 10.2.1 and it works in my 09 fine.  Phone calls anyway.  Texting never worked.  Google maps will call out the directions if I set it to use BT like a phone call.

    That you noticed.

These updates don't add features.  They are intended to fix bugs.  And they might include changes that impact on hidden (or to close unintended access to) services or capabilities.

That's why I don't apply updates without having the changelog data.

Depending on WHICH extended warranty package you bought ('bumper to bumper' or simply power train) and who is underwriting it ( I hope is was an OEM package from Dodge/FCA direct) you may not have full coverage.

On the other hand, it doesn't cost $3,400 to fix the GPS and it doesn't need to be replaced, that is simply Chrysler policy.

The problem would seem to be that there are certain radios that are susceptible to memory corruption.  When they swap out your radio they will install a 'refurbished' one.  It is most likely to be one of those with the issue, since that's how they get them to refurbish in the first place and all they do is reload the unit with software and maps and ship them back out, never addressing the underlying issue..

Beyond this, there is a recall (R65, for reference) that applies to your vehicle, whether you have an extended warranty or not - it would seem to have been applied in June . . . but clearly was not 'successful'.  All repairs, whether recall or not are guaranteed in any case.

    Your dealer's an idiot.

It may not fix it at all. It is simply a suggestion that MIGHT help resolve your problem. And if it does, then it may, or may not be permanent.
