  1. This is the link to the instructions I mentioned in the above post last year. The kit is specific to the 2011/12/13 models, which explicitly did NOT come with the wiring, making it ideal for those newer units that supposedly DO come with wiring that no one seems to be able to find. and noting that the kits for the later models do not come with the cabling.   2. Go to the web site and look up the recall status of your vehicle. I was under the impression that R65 applied to all of the 3rd generation radios, which were introduced in mid-2013, up to whenever CTP-16 was released (which didn't solve the problem in any case).
  3. Not sure what the dealer's issue is - R65 calls for the replacement of the radio if it is in trouble when the recall is performed . . . .
  4. The Journey (any year and all models) can take 17" and larger wheels. Older Journeys (the ones with the smaller brakes) can also take 16" wheels. The tire size is obviously impacted, because for any wheel size, the width and circumference of the tires needs to conform to what the vehicle can handle. So, like many among us I have 17" steel wheels with my 225/65/17 snow tires mounted on them and the original 19" wheels with (in my case) a set of 225/55/19 Bridgestone ECOPIA H/L 422 PLUS installed. Those sizes are what FCA delivers with the vehicles. They diameter of the tires is close enough that there is minimal impact on speedometer and odometer accuracy. Ride height is pretty much the same, too.

  6. The RF Hub uses a wire antenna that is routed above te headliner. It does not use the roof antenna.
  7. Better than the SRT menu, from what I saw in the video, you can use this to enable your DRLs, something dealers can't do. Not only that, but apparently you can even control how bright they are . . . . . Can't link to the post because the group in question is closed.
  8. Since the bumper to bumper warranty is 60,000 km your mileage is not the factor. Time is. Has the R65 recall been done on your vehicle? It wouldn't matter whether it had been or not if you lived in Quebec - this is a design defect, so there should be no time limit. But there was a recall for this and if it hasn't been done on your vehicle, then there should be no cost . . . . and if it WAS done, it was ineffective and they should step up. I would reach out to Chrysler Canada, because your dealer is an ass if he didn't. You may be able to get them to do the right thing.
  9. You raise a very good point about the sensor - it won't be there if you are moving from manual air to auto. And there is some weirdness with that installation in the video, though the Auto button does show - he never pressed it but (and I'm not going out to my vehicle to check) the aircon screen looks different than mine and at the end of the video the vehicle may display temperatures on the slider, but it does not show the settings on the top status line like mine does, which is shorter than on my vehicle, which came with the RE2 and I swapped the TGM for the RB5. The text on their web site does explain, but in the video they only mention in passing, kind of brushing quickly past the fact that if you are upgrading from the 4.3 and don't have the S (Sirius) radio then you will need to add a working antenna for the GPS. I can understand that, no different than the country code and the DRL code the factory programmer doesn't allow dealers to enable automatic air conditioning using their computers, but I wonder whether this programmer really does the job . . . . the air conditioner display screen looks quite different than the one in my vehicle - and without the proper ambient sensor, whether it really does work properly. If they say the device is VIN locked, then yes, when you plug it in for the first time it will query the vehicle for the VIN and store it onboard and on subsequent uses will compare the VIN with that stored and will only work for that original vehicle; I notice that they sell non-OEM backup cameras and supply the OBD programmer for that as well. Note that the full OEM camera kit (the one that comes with the wiring harness) seems to cost about $265 - and a dealer will charge less than $135 to enable the backup camera sales code, making the OEM solution either the same price, or more cost effective.

  11. Be also aware that the RF hub is included with the OEM remote starter kit - and that kit comes with 2 key fobs. It still needs to be learned into the vehicle, but if you didn't have remote start you will now - you can usually find the kits on Ebay for about $265 . . . . interesting enough I don't see any there now . . . . .
  12. Hmmmmm - I suspect you may wind up unhappy with one from a wrecked vehicle because they are where the keyfobs information is stored and you can't learn in a used FOB. I think the dealer may possibly have left something our - IIRC the hub needs to be learned into the system, as well.
  13. First of all you don't 'need a new radio'. In fact for your $1200 you'd get a refurbished radio that is more likely to fail than the one you have in your vehicle now. That's because all they do is to reload the maps into a radio that they took back from a vehicle already suffered the problem and ship it out to the dealers to replace the one you have in your dash now. If I was in your shoes I'd pick up the phone, call Chrysler/FCA customer support and tell them to cover the repair - this is what's known as a 'latent defect' and it has been documented here (and admitted to by them in their R65 recall program) and depending on where you live (your profile says BC) there may not be any legal warranty end date for design defects. On the other hand, there is a thread on the site that documents how to reload your own maps - with newer ones than FCA would provide in your dash. Alternatively (and for less money than your dealer wants, and without any taxes, either) I have a spare radio which has not (yet - and I say 'yet' because you never know when it might, if it will at all) lost its mapping. I bought it as a cold spare in case I was to suffer the problem in my DJ - something that hasn't happened. I am offering it for what I paid - US$800. Installation takes about 10 minutes - you will need a security unlock code to mate it to your vehicle - dealers will often provide the code for free or for a trivial amount of money if they aren't complete asses.
  14. Your dealer is an ass. Look up the definition of 'design defect', then contact FCA customer support and insist that they replace the radio once more under warranty. If they refuse file a complaint with your state's consumer protection group, quoting the various 'can't unlock maps' threads here and referencing the R65 Chrysler recall. That can't stick defective equipment into your vehicle and then try to charge you when it does what they program it to. Under civil law you can likely claim a lifetime of replacements, since it is a defective design with an applied 'solution' that actually exacerbates the likelihood of recurrence.
  15. The heading info comes from the on board compass - it will come back after you recalibrate the compass - details are in the owner's manual.
  16. Sirius doesn't have maps, just spoken traffic reports for various major cities - perhaps they offer a service on other platforms, but not on the radios we get in our vehicles. The in-vehicle navigation feature requires that you have the 8.4" touchscreen. If you don't see a 'nav' soft key on the bottom row of icons then you have an RE2 which has no navigation and your only option to get in-dash nav is to buy a new radio. I happen to have one for sale. If you don't have the 8.4" display then you'll need to change the screen, dash bezel and some other components - and if you don't already have automatic air conditioning it starts getting really messy. There is also the matter of real time traffic. If you want this and you are shopping for a radio then it will need to be one from a newer Journey because the early ones did not support the service, which you need to subscribe to - THAT is provided by Sirius. Only you can decide whether it is worth the cost to upgrade.
  17. Unless it is a first generation RB5 you will need an unlock code for the radio itself - nothing whatsoever to do with the nav. Generating the code requires the serial number of your new radio and the IN of YOUR vehicle. Dealers have been known on occasion to provide those for free - or you can always change the module, drive to the dealer and pretend the radio just stopped working and try claiming it under warranty. There is a member here who has been known, on occasion to provide the code, though it isn't for me to offer his services; and there are sites on the web
  18. Joined just for the post, I guess. Let me see - you actually BELIEVED the dealer when he said that the cruise redlining the engine was normal? Why didn't you go to another dealer or at the very least hold his feet to the flames? Given the track record you reported it sure looks like the clunker was the dealership. Years ago I had a GM van that had to have the tranny replaced under warranty - they gave it back to me with the shift linkages misadjusted and tried to tell me it was 'normal'. "Fine", I said, let's take out another van with the same engine/tranny combination and see if it works the same way. We did. It didn't. I managed to get the service manager fired (it was the last of a loooong string of stupid from that man). As to the radio changing stations; that could have been as simple as you hitting te steering wheel controls, or just some dirt that managed to get into the rotary encoder. 'Several other owners' with issues . . . . quel surprise.
  19. Changing the screen alone will not cause a call for an unlock code. All of the 4.3" screens from the 2011 and later Journeys are interchangeable. Can't speak for other vehicles, so keep it in the family to be safe.
  20. If he charged you $500 to 'activate' it, you were ripped off. If it wasn't working, you have a warranty. In other words, unless he actually swapped out the radio module to substitute the RB5 for the RE2 you have a serious claim against your dealer. Unless he swapped out the hardware he owes you $500 (easy enough to tell if it came from the factory with the nav installed . . . . look up the build sheet for your vehicle - that doesn't mean that the previous owner DIDN'T swap out the TGM mind you).
  21. Are you in the US? Or, more importantly, is your vehicle coded as a US vehicle or is it perhaps coded for Canada or some other country? The RSM code is included in th US destination vehicles, but for some reason, some vehicles don't have it and FCA's software will not allow it to be added. Travelink is only available in vehicles coded for the US - the radio firmware won't display the option (which is accessed from the '+/more' touch icon on the lower right of the display) without the RSM sales code. For other markets that '+' is a 'settings' icon. No '+'? No Travelink.
  22. No, he can't. That, of course assumes you have a Journey. Journeys with the 8.4" screens come with the RE2 (no nav) or RB5 (with nav) TGM (radios) in North America - other versions of the same are provided in other regions because there is no Sirius/XM service beyond the NA borders). The unit that supports 'activation' is the 8.4A, which supports 'apps'. It doesn't work in the Journey If you didn't have factory nav and now you do then your dealer changed the TGM, possibly having taken one from a scrapped vehicle he had access to because, simply put, the RE2 doesn't have GPS hardware on board.   23. To add the factory nav you will have to change the radio module out. Plug and play. No codes. Not on the Journey. I have one for sale 3rd gen (traffic capable) . . . . $800

By default R65 will have been performed on your radio, since R65 only requires that nav version CTP16 (CTP17 these days) be installed, which it is on radios replaced after the release of that version, not to mention that you've performed the update yourself as a function of the procedure you performed - it doesn't help prevent these failures, mind you. My point is that there would be no point in arguing with the service department if/when they tell you the recall's already been applied, because effectively, it has.
