Rough engine start for 20 seconds only

Hey guys, I have a 2014 Dodge Journey. When I first start up this beast (I have nothing on at the start) I have a rough start (SUV shakes, engine sounds rough) this only lasts for about 20 seconds. Then the shaking stops, and everything runs very smoothly. That point I turn on a/c or heater.

I have changed the plugs about 3 weeks ago, I also get that P301 code so I changed the coil in #1.   Even tried swapping the new coil in a different spot. Nothing seems to make a difference.

 

Anyone with any tips ?

Is P301 the only code you are getting? A short term rough idle at start up may be the result of the throttle not working correctly while cold. It is common for a sensor to fail, something that controls cold idle like a MAS or MAP sensor. During the summer months, cold idle will only last a very brief time before the RPM's drop to idle and the engine smooth's out. If one of the sensors are bad, the cold idle would be rough. In cold weather, this condition may last a couple of minutes.

Hello, i am having a similar issue with my 2015 DJ 2.4. Upon cold start in the morning or any first start of the day, there is no shaking when it first starts when the rpm needle is above 1000 but when the needle drops below 1000 rpm, the shaking starts. When i give it some gas, it doesn't shake. The shaking lasts until the temperature needle starts climbing to about 1/4 way to 1/2 way. Then, there is no shaking at all and the vehicle runs normal.

Is a 2.4? I got P0301 or P0302 code in my 2.4 and it was the fuel injector.

Injectors can fail but are not that common. The most common cause of bad idling on the 2.4 engine is what Summer Solstice mentioned above. The electronic throttle body by 100k or so often starts to act up. Plastic internal gears wear out. Hitachi makes the oem unit, rockauto sells it. Usually sets codes and or a lightning bolt symbol. 
 

Some people use throttle cleaner and gently manipulate linkage with flap on it.  Can temporarily help for a bit. But throttle assembly is a 2.4 wear item.

Thanks for the reply! Ill clean the TB. If that doesn’t work. Ill throw in a new one or a used one from scrap yard. If that doesn’t work neither. Ill change the fuel injectors. Ill give an update once done

check All your wires going to the coils and also also clean the connectors also look for any green on the grounds and wires as well very important for a smooth running engines esp up north.....yrs ago my daughters caravan 3.3 kept having intermittent problems running bad, after the starting with plugs and the usually stuff her mechanic said it was her coil going bad he replaced it, ran fine for a while then started acting up again he said the coil was bad again replaced under warranty ran fine for a bit, then started acting up again he replaced the coil again ran fine for a while ,and then started acting up again when he replaced the coil again all under warranty he noticed inside the plastic cap connected to the coil a wire was loose ,plastic was melted a bit he fixed that and NO more problem ....similar problem with a fan switch under the hood on sons old car, sometimes worked and then it wouldn't I found the bad connector and hard wire it back together NO more overheating on that car as well...all in the Alabama weather with hardly any bad salt weather
