As I explained previously I just entered the Dodge Journey experience as a owner...
After some reading I concluded that the 2014 onward was very good bet as the brakes have improved. I took from there and here I am.
So far I love the car. Of course I could complain about consumption... but I won't... I went for a V6 and I know it!
But so far in these 3 weeks of ownership I've had some really revealing experiences.

Without naming names and places here's my saga regarding the Navigation and attempt:
One day I went to buy new front wiper blades and a cabin filter. When I started to change the cabin filter, removed the glove-box and found a big invoice that got stuck behind it. That invoice is from maintenance done at Chrysler Dealership that also sold the car. There's the details of the original owner. I emailed him and asked for some details. He kindly replied authorizing to contact them for the full history and to alert me that there's an extended warranty on the car...
I contact the dealership and the service manager sent me all the maintenance done so far and, quote: " also the vehicle has extended contract so when you go to the Dealer in Toronto make sure it is transferred and have them check your Navi because under the plan a radio would be covered." The same radio was already replaced on 3/6/16 at 23,229 km...  I've been to two dealerships where I live. The one where I did the steering wheel recall and another... The first never told me about extra protection available or any other details... They tell me the 5/100,000 km warranty is for the power-train. The rest was 3 years and 60,000 km.  A new radio is around $1,000.00. They ask me if where I bought it included an extra warranty and to call them to find out. I did. Very professionally they said no BUT to go ahead with the replacement as they would pay for it! The second was better but pushed me back to original Chrysler dealership which has on record the extended warranty, and say they are the ones supposed to transfer the warranty to me.  So I emailed the original dealership... they asked for ownership and mileage. They did it and got back to me confirming it and asking to wait 24 hours  to make sure it shows up under my name. After I got back to the dealer i bought it from. Explained all, and everybody is happy. As a courtesy they are giving me some cash back... I didn't ask for nothing. It just goes towards a very good impression I retained from where I bought it. After all this I'm still trying to find and download all the files needed for the solution in these thread (I accept tips)... Because after all warranties expire... we can always use this method to make the Nav come back...

Thanks for reading... It's the sharing of information that keeps forums great!

Given that it is a design defect, at least in Quebec they will not be able to escape providing a lifetime warranty, based on what you reported - this is going to get interesting.
I'd have balked at even paying the $100
FYI they are all manufactured by Panasonic. . . .

I STILL would love to take a crack at one of these before it goes back to the dealer.

I have maintained that for several years. IMO the unit we have in our vehicles seems to be a cash grab for Navteq or Garmin.
I have a 2010 Journey which uses a Navteq system which I believe is the parent company of Garmin (somebody corrected me on this before) I also have a lifetime warranty on my portable Garmin Nuvi and IMO it is just as good or better than what I have in my car. It offers probably what amounts to 4 upgrades per year although they are very time consuming to download (I do it at night) they are much newer than what I have in my car.At the moment I feel I can trust my portable Nuvi more than I can the expensive GPS unit in my vehicle.
Last week I upgraded my system by visiting the website Dodgecacares mentioned for $149 for a one time upgrade. When I upgraded in May 2011 the Navteq rep confided in me that really all that was needed is to upgrade every 2nd one and they were sure it would be fine. Another thing it said on my invoice 2011 Maps, today is December 12th 2012 soon to be 2013. Is this the newest map they have? I have an email into them but as of yet have not received a reply, I am interested to hear their response.

After a Tow to the dealer they found a loose wire on the starter. I could hear the clicking but it would not turn over. I only had 864 miles on the beast at that time. I have been trouble free since then. They really are nice vehicles.

No problems last year with stock Kumho's and FWD. Our terrain is flat. Not enough snow here to warrant the purchase of winter tires, but it is sound advice for those who live where the snow is frequent. You'll spend a lot less money on winter tires than on the trade-in difference between your current Crossroad and one with AWD. Keep your car.

When we lived in Houston, Tx., we had a 2010 R/T V6 AWD, which was a truly amazing vehicle, I was totally won over,
found it the best vehicle I had ever driven, whether driving out to visit Mom in Kerrville, or driving to San Antonio to see friends,
it handled the I10 so well. Driving up to Austin, down to Galveston, out to Fredricksburg, Bandera, Hunt, Junction, College Station,
it handled it all so well and drove like a dream.

When we moved on back to Australia in 2013 I bought the then current model SXT, put 19 rims on it, Cooper CS4 tires,
and am so pleased. This week we ordered a 2014 SXT for my wife, we pick it up on Thursday. Yes, we are well and
truly sold on the Dodge Journey 3.6 V6.

Ok, so I have only had this 1 week and I don’t know everything about it yet, however…
Daytime Running Lights – Not working at first but looking through the settings I found the option to turn them on, and low and behold they work!
Weather tech rear window guards fell off while driving into the vehicle thank god, a quick search here in the forums, a dremel tool and some 3M auto tape and I’m back in business.
Interior is really quiet, V6 had plenty of power to get the job done, as others have noted the transmission is a bit slow to downshift but nothing I cannot live with.
NAV system is really good, learns the way I want to go and remembers it, awesome!
Stereo rocks! Lots of BASS when the EQ is turned up. Sat radio I have NO opinion on as I have not looked at it yet.
Rear Entertainment System, what can I say I do not sit in the back, but the kids’ love it and it keeps them quiet.
LOVE the passing blinkers, for those that do not know just tap the turn signal, it will blink 3 times in the direction you taped and then turn off.
Gas Mileage, well I have 528 miles on it, and I’m on my 2nd fill up so no tracking until I fill up tomorrow. The computer is showing 21 to 21.4 so far, I’m thinking it’s going to improve as it breaks in.

This subject has been beat to death in numerous threads. If you are uncomfortable with the wait, change it. If not, wait for the light. Me, I change mine 6000 miles/6 months regardless of the light. Others wait longer.

Bramfrank makes a very valid point about aftermarket service contracts. I was on the fence about elaborating the cons of aftermarket warranties since you have already purchased it, but if you have a cancellation clause that does not fiscally hurt you then you might consider doing so.
Aftermarket service contracts (often, but not necessarily always) make the owner and the shop jump through many hoops in order to get a claim paid. The contracts are often worded with all kinds of terms which, if not followed to the letter, allow them to sidestep payment to the owner or the shop. It is for those very reasons why my shop will not accept any aftermarket warranties, nor do we sell anything but the Chrysler Service Contracts.
The factory Service Contract is very straightforward. All repairs correspond to an eight digit Labor Operation Number (LOP). There is no guesswork - if a customer's vehicle needs a repair, we simply type the LOP number into the customer's Service Contract. If the LOP is covered by the plan, we get paid no questions asked, and the customer is only responsible for the deductible as stated on their plan. No adjuster to call, no records to show, nothing is open to interpretation by a third party adjuster, often sent to the repair shop by the aftermarket warranty company to verify the shop's claim. Plus, as bramfrank states, all OEM parts are used and the contract is good at ANY Chrysler Group dealer, anywhere. Often times the aftermarket warranty companies will specify their own parts rather than OEM or worse, will pay only for a used part! The store I used to work for years ago sold these aftermarket warranties, and often times we had to leave the car on the lift for days, waiting for an adjuster to come to verify our claim. The customer was left with a disabled car at our shop and the contract company would not pay for a rental while you waited for them to authorize payment. This never happens with a Chrysler plan.
I purchased a Lifetime Maximum Care Contract of our Journey even though I work for a dealer and pay cost for parts. These cars have some very expensive electronics in them, not to mention the engine and tranny. I'm still driving my last new car - a 2000 300M with 286,000 miles on it. Our Journey may very well follow suit, especially if it will only cost me $100.00 to put a motor or a tranny in it, not to mention replacement of that nice 8.4" touchscreen which is bound to go bad after a few years. Plus, should anything ever happen to me, my wife will never have to worry about a repair bill exceeding $100.00 for as long as she owns the car. Something to think about.

Your car went to D1 status over the weekend, which means that now it is scheduled for build. Don't know the build date yet but it should be in the next two weeks. Tentatively scheduled for rail car loading on July 4. I'll keep you posted.
