Why dont you go ahead and remove it,. drive through a tankful of gas and see if it improves your mileage? I think it has been stated before, if the engineers who designed the car thought it would provide any benefit by not having it there, it would not be there. More air to the engine wont do anything for you without more fuel. The stoichiometric mixture for a gasoline engine is the ideal ratio (15:1) of air to fuel to allow all fuel to be burned with no excess air. The computer maintains the 15:1 ratio all the time regardless of how much or little air enters the intake manifold. That little felt piece does nothing to alter this.

Her fuel mileage is just better than yours. DTE is calculated by average fuel mileage via the computer until its reset, and even then your mileage might be different than hers. The less you reset it the more accurate it will read. You don't necessarily have to be lead footed to get bad gas mileage. Long warm ups, lots of traffic and several other factors can determine your fuel mileage.
Reset it while your traveling "steady" for the highest possible readout (not while in the driveway or traffic). After that don't reset it for a while. If you can maintain that high number as long as possible it should boost your DTE to a higher number.
If your needle is close to full and you are getting close to 20 gallons of fuel when empty, then I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck

I agree, everyone should own a scanner these days. An inexpensive way to keep mechanics honest and in some cases save money by doing the small things yourself.

Install was easy, and pretty fast. My slowest time was getting the power wire through the rear suspension area. Did it by myself, my first hitch install also. Got the kit off of ebay.
From seller HitchMart1 for $198.44 shipped, and came with everything! Hope this helps people needing a hitch.

That's better. Lebowski has actually contributed some great how to's for the forum. He's right about not mincing words. I originally found his comments to be irritating but after a while I realized it was because of frustration. Everyone has their own style. You can see he's contributed to this forum for a long time. The one's that i don't care for are the trolls who make outrageous comments one or two times and never come back. Ah, ain't peace wonderful!

Not really, let's call it a lively discussion.

Thank you Debra and Addicted to Dodge for your kind words. I am passionate about our Journey and 300M and enjoy swapping stories and advice with other good people who feel the same about their cars. I also have easy access to lots of information about our cars that can be beneficial to everyone. Reading stories like yours, Debra, just eats me up because I know that your problem is repairable. To add insult to injury, some of the parties involved in trying to solve your problem have only created additional ones, which really kills me.
You deserve to enjoy your beautiful, brand new Journey. A new car is a big thing for folks like all of us who work hard for what we have. The last thing you should have to deal with is a problem that not only is not in any way normal, but one that affects your health as well. And to have even the slightest hint of indifference directed towards your request for assistance is completely unacceptable.
I look forward to the next update on the 27th!

    Journeyman,
I must say that you are one good dude!! After working on houses all day I must admit the last thing I want to do is go home and talk houses with other people. You are obviously a caring person and I would like to say "Thank You" for all your dedication to helping people in need. We need more people like you in the auto industry these days.
Sorry to go off topic and sound a little sappy. Just giving praise where praise is due!!

I can't let myself go by the oil change reminder either. I've always changed my oil every 5,000 kilometres and I get antsy if I'm 200-300 KMs over. I keep reading about how the oils are so much better and engines are built with better specs, but old habits are hard to break. I still catch myself forgetting to shut off the Journey occasionally when I get out, because it's so quiet LOL.

The location of the battery was the reason that I did a "preemptive" replacement on my wife's 2009. Build date was July 2008, so battery age was pushing 6 years. There was no indication of problems with the battery, but I have no intentions of having to change that, in the pouring rain, in a Target parking lot. I'm not sure if I'm "old school", but the "old" part certainly fits.

I agree seems like a neat design oil filter on top. But still have to go on the bottom to drain the oil. The battery though, wow. Thank God you don't change it often. and even with synthetic oil, I'm old school I change it every 3k miles. It's not expensive for a piece a mind.

Definitely not just you! I was the same way and it blew my mind the battery was behind the wheel well. But the oil filter is a really nice feature, makes for an easy change without the mess.

Exactly what I thought. It came that way. Meaning the due diligence that "you" as a buyer should have done before buying it. Instead of spamming the website with bogus youtube videos, maybe you should lay blame on yourself and look at what you did wrong instead of coming to a forum and bashing people who have nothing to do with your problems.

I have to say mine looks nothing like this either. I'm not ripping up carpet or pulling seats out to look for it, but underneath is still clean and shiny. Mr. Sabater, that looks like a flood vehicle. I'm curious how you got the dealer to "replace the car". You just said, "Hey look, it's rusty" and they said "Yep, here's a new car".....

I now have 26k miles on my 2012 Journey SXT. I have owned it for a year and a half already. I have rotated my tires 3 times, changed the oil 4 times, cleaned and inspected the brakes (almost good as new), and changed my front wiper blades (I try to do all my own servicing when possible). Other than that I haven't had any issues at all with my Journey. Its been great!! My Kuhmos are starting to show some wear but I should be good til next year, I am actually looking forward to putting a better quality tire on, but for now I will milk these Kuhmos for all they are worth.
I originally bought the Journey for my wife and kids, but we soon realized that the Journey was a little small for our needs. So I bought her a new T&C a few months after purchasing our Journey. I didn't want to take a big loss so I just kept the Journey as a backup. To my surprise the damn thing started growing on me!! I was always a truck man, and had no interest in making our Journey my daily driver. But the past year has been all Journey for me. I save a ton in gas and it is so much easier to park.
While there are some things that annoy me with the Journey, I can honestly say that "my" Journey has been surprisingly fun to own so far.
This has been my experience for what its worth, so thanks for reading my long post.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying your Journey. We have over 34,000KM's (21,000 miles) on ours and it still continues to impress us. I was a little concerned about the Kumho tires at first but regular rotation seems to be doing the job. I also had the alignment done before winter and I haven't had any issues driving in the snow. It is the best at highway cruising of any vehicles we've owned. As redtomatoman said, it is very fun to drive!

Wife liked our 2009 SXT DJ that when it was time to trade we got another DJ. 2013 Crew almost a year ago now. 16,500 KM on it so far and very pleased with it. Just had first problem with it. Battery was discharged and at -25 C remote would not start. Dealer checked and did not find any issue besides battery low. Other than that all is good. Good to hear you are enjoying your DJ. :shades:
