DodgeCares got a reaction from Addicted to Dodge in Don`t be fooled by the 2500 lbs max tow capacity
    So let's recap this thread.
You blame Dodge for lowering the tow ratings on the Journey after a redesign. Don't really seem to be too upset with dealer in first post, just Dodge's fault. Then the dealer is blamed for lying to make a sale. Also, false advertising is alleged when nowhere is it advertised or printed by Dodge that the tow weight is anything other than 2,500 pounds. Lastly, it is clear that you know what the tow rating of your vehicle is at this time and you will choose to ignore it.
Seems to me you started this thread to boast you tow more than what the vehicle is designed for, as even the thread title indicates as much. Now it's all American car manufacturers are struggling because they are deceiving their customers. I find that ironic, considering you started this thread to deceive people that they could tow more because you did it.

You all make good points here and I hope for your safety and the safety of others that everyone follows what is in the owners manual and not what a salesman at a dealership or what some posting on the internet suggests.

Many things can impact tow ratings such as suspension, tire size, gearing, tuning, wheel base, vehicle weight, etc... When changes occur, such as the redesign of the Journey for 2011, the tow rating can be impacted. You cannot simply look at horsepower ratings and determine the tow rating. Towing over the manufacturer recommendations can lead to premature component failure and can result in unsafe control of the vehicle.
Dodge would love to say that the Journey can tow many more thousands of pounds and use it in their marketing campaign but Dodge creates the rating it does after countless hours of testing so the vehicle will last as long as possible even when a customer tows often and for the safety of the passengers and the other drivers on the road. Not to mention getting your warranty claims rejected when the trans fluid fails because it overheated. If anyone at the dealership told you that you could disregard the owners manual they are wrong.

    Konaboy,
Welcome to the forum. While I am not sure exactly what radio unit you have I am going to assume it is the 4.3? If so, the correct procedure is to press the settings hard key on the radio. Then scroll down the soft key list until you see Doors+Locks and select that. After that another list will appear that say Horn and Lock. If you select that you should be able to turn on and off.
If you still do not see the setting please post back up exactly what point in the option list you do not see what I have described above and I will try and get further info. Or if you have a different radio.

I can understand what you are saying but I cannot assume anything. Perhaps the customer didn't even do their own oil change and the dealer forgot to re-set it? Or some other oil change place did it and forgot to re-set it.Looks like Ed is new to the forum and went through the trouble of registering to be a part of the community here, which I welcome. The last thing I want to do is alienate a new forum member for asking a question.

DodgeCares got a reaction from MarineCorpsSki in 2011 Brakes and Rotors Under Warranty?
    Sue,
The warranty on pads and rotors is 12 months or 12,000 miles, so the dealer is correct that they are not under warranty. What I would suggest is a call to the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center (numbers below) and let them know the problem with the vehicle and see if they will offer you some goodwill assistance. If they do not and you wind up replacing the brakes at your own cost make sure you save the receipts in case there is a recall or a warranty extension in the future. There was a warranty extension to 3 years 36,000 miles for the 2010 model year and if they expand that to 2011 models you will be notified and will be able to get reimbursed at that time.

DodgeCares got a reaction from macbarros in 2012 Journey Recall
Here is a copy of the recall notice. The recall was on 340 vehicles with very specific build dates and vins. If anyone wants to know the build date of their vehicle they can PM me their vin and I will send it to them.
    Safety Recall L39
    Contaminated Brake Fluid
    2012 (FF) Fiat 500
    2012 (JC) Dodge Journey
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built from October 21, 2011 through October 25, 2011 (MDH 102120 through102506).
IMPORTANT: Many of the vehicles within the above build period have already been inspected or repaired and, therefore, have been excluded from this recall.
The brake fluid in about 340 of the above vehicles may be contaminated. Contaminated brake fluid could cause the brake components to rapidly deteriorate leading to a potential loss of brakes and cause a crash without warning.
All components for the hydraulic brake system must be replaced. Also, vehicles equipped with a manual transmission must have all the hydraulic clutch components replaced.

DodgeCares got a reaction from Easy in Oil life monitor - how does it work?
    Easy,
This is what I could find on the official definition of what's called the Flexible Service System (FSS) .
    What is flexible service system?
A computer-supported and sensor-supported maintenance system that allows for individual vehicle maintenance intervals up to 18,500 miles (30,000 km) and servicing at intervals between one and two years, while notifying the driver if maintenance is needed sooner to ensure long life.
FSS calculates and displays in the instrument cluster the distance remaining to the next regular maintenance service based on actual driving conditions and oil quality. The computer keeps a running track of driving conditions and calculates a load collective that correlates to wear and tear on the oil, using equivalency factors for hard driving, normal driving and light driving. The computer monitors oil, water pressure, RPM, vehicle speed, miles driven, load and oil added. It compares this data to a model that determines when it is time to change the oil.
An engine oil level sensor measures the dynamic oil level during driving and also senses oil dilution (thinning) or high metal content. If specific limit values are reached, the driver is notified that an oil change is needed.
