I'll start by saying I know this is a fairly well documented topic, but I have searched this and other forums and other places and haven't found what I am looking for (posibly just not searching the right stuff?). Anyway, I have a 2013 DJ SXT that technically did not have remote start. I have been successful in programming a new key with the remote start option, enabled the remote start in the computer, and it almost works. My last hurdle is the hood ajar switch. I get the horn honk, but then the 'Remote stat aborted, hood ajar' message when I try and use the remote start. I can find the connectors and replacement hood latches with the thing all over the internet, buy my question is: does the wiring for this switch already exist on the car or not? And if not, is there a diagram that shows where I need to start to connect a switch to the proper controlling module? I have looked all around the wiring on the front of the vehicle and did not see anything that looked like the correct connector for this switch. If I can find out where it terminates normally I could add one in, but that information has not been easy to find. I was hoping to avoid paying for wiring diagrams for this one thing (plus I kinda suck at reading them tbh), so here I am. Thanks in advance for any advice or input on this! tsteves5 Posted February 24, 2023 Report Share Posted February 24, 2023 According to the online service manual for my 2011, the connector for the hood switch is a 2-pin oval connector located on the lighting wiring harness by the passenger-side headlamp. I don't know if it's the same on a 2013. It looks like it connects to the Body Control Module, so you might be able to run wires from that module if your current harness does not have them. I would suggest getting a AllDataDIY subscription so you can check to make sure the wiring is the same on your 2013. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I did have the purple connector behind the passenger headlamp so after getting the connector and latch I'm hoping to be set from what I can see. I have an aftermarket remote start module from a 16 I was going to install but if you get the oem working with new keys and hood switch I will pursue that route instead. Yep, I will post updates as I get things accomplished. I am ordering the hood switch now and need to see if the switch bracket is already in there or find one of those as well. I may have time tomorrow to fiddle with ours if they actually arrive tomorrow. I will update here as well once I get to it. I did not search but glanced under the hood this morning before she left for work and did not see the harness. I found an install manual but half of it is in another language. It shows the wiring is present but taped up near right headlight. I will look again tonight if she gets home before dark. The oem kit includes a new antenna. I wonder why. Maybe to increase range? If the fob talks to the car that should be all we need. I wonder if the new rf hub has the additional antenna port but the oem non remote start doesn't? Or is it just a bunch of parts that are not really needed but justify the cost and install time? The description says hood ajar harness but the pics I found and the install manual do not show adding a harness. Mine had the cloth like tape covering it. I installed a 1k ohm resistor. Programmed a new remote with the remote start button. Used Alfa to enable remote start and hood ajar switch present. Reset the rf hub using Alfa. And....It would not work. I could get 1 beep from the horn but that was it. Didn't matter how may times I hit the start button on the remote. It would beep on the 1st press and that's all. Letting it sit for 10 minutes did not help. So I drove around for 10 minutes and shut it off. It works! Cost a new remote from Amazon. $35 and the resistor was maybe 10 cents. I will get the hood ajar switch now that I know it works. Wife is very happy!! Sweet, glad to hear it worked out! I went backwards and enabled the feature first with AlfaOBD and then programmed a key the next day. Dodgems Posted February 27, 2023 Report Share Posted February 27, 2023 At first I could not get the key to program. I had to replace the battery in the new remote then it worked. When first using the lock and unlock buttons it was hit or miss for a few minutes. I was starting to get worried the remote was bad. After the short drive it has worked fine. Dodgems Posted February 28, 2023 Report Share Posted February 28, 2023 The harness is behind the headlight. Just have to unwrap or cut some of the tape off and it should plug into the switch. I used a resistor but it was long enough to reach the hole that is for the switch. The connector I plugged the resistor into looks just like the plug on the harnesses I have seen for sale. The connector on mine was already exposed but the switch was absent, so hardware wise it really was just slide the switch in it's spot and plug it in with the existing plug. I forgot to snap a 'before' picture, but did add a couple here of where the connector comes out in relation to the other grouped wires and the switch, as well as a picture of what the connector looks like (it's not very big but the one picture is just from a shopping website). From what I have read elsewhere if you don't have or need a new connector you can get them on several sites with the search term "20xx dodge journey hood ajar switch connector" or something similar.
