First time buying from a dealership. I purchased a 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroads Plus, 84,000 miles, on Saturday, 1/23/21. Original warranty remaining on 100,000 and bought an extended 3yr/36,000 Basic. I discovered a ticking sound coming from the engine on Sunday, did my due diligence and researched the possibilities, discovering that the lifter is the most likely culprit. Called the dealership on Monday morning, my salesman told me to bring it in. They checked it out and confirmed it’s the lifter, though I was told that I needed to wait 30days for the paperwork to process before they will service it under the warranty. Does this sound right? I would think it would be covered under the original 100,000 Mile warranty that belongs to the car, not the extended that I purchased, so why would we need to wait for the ink to dry on the paperwork?

Typically this would be covered by any 30 day guarantee a dealer might have but yes if they’re trying to use the extended warranty then it would be 30 days after purchasing. A lifter I think would be covered under your 5yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty but it would depend on your in service date.

  2. Welcome to the forum!

It really depends on which one you end up with. Journeys are pretty hit or miss. Some seem to have few issues while others may have a lot. It’s definitely worth paying for a car fax or checking the service history to see if it’s been a problem child. They’re typically consistent in the problem areas and most aren’t crazy stupid to be fixed. Definitely poke around the forum and see what others are saying.

  3. Hey Everyone! We’re rolling into our 8th month of Journey Ownership and here’s what we’ve done do far!

    Miles: 21,102

average MPG: 25.3 (I track for my work too)

low was 21.1 to 27.8 high.

services: 3 oil changes (I use full synthetic!) 1 set of Michelin defenders, 1 new strut (warranty), and a new air filter.

so far I’m pretty pleased with the Journey and it’s performance in general. We’re gearing up for a trip to Glacier National Park and I know our little trash wagon is up to the task!

Something to keep in mind my regular commute includes county roads and even on some work appointments I have to go down some pretty rough roads so a strut is not uncommon! ?

    Happy 4th everyone.

I can say from personal experience a good set of tires does make a difference. Some definitely do better in certain weather.

But you have to be fair you are not comparing your new tires to your old worn out tires.

Oh 100%. I liked the Nexens but even compared to them at new I think Michelin’s have improved its performance a bit

  5. So everyone I just had to buy my first set of tires for the Journey! The good old factory Nexens did survive 20,000 miles which isn’t bad for what I’ve experienced with tires.

since I drive around 34,000 miles a year I decided to go with the Michelin Defender LTX. I have had good luck with Michelin’s in the past so thought why not give them a shot. Boy, what an upgrade! I won’t say it makes the a huge difference in handling and ride but it is noticeable!

the handling definitely more responsive and it grips the road a lot better. Not saying it’ll solve all the Journeys problems but I definitely like it just a little more!

Well, my journey with my Journey 'payments' comes to an end. Today I made my final payment on my DJ, and it felt great. From not knowing these vehicles whatsoever, to spotting one while shopping for a car 5 years ago, it's been a great decision overall. We're just a touch over 70k and the DJ has been great for the family. Moving away from a minivan and still having the third row option at this price point was a big reason I went with this car. Five years later the kids (4) are almost all driving their own cars and not joining us in our long trips as much. The last time I used that third row was over a year ago, but I still see all the kids in the rearview mirror every once in a while.

Anyway, other than a warranty trannie issue this thing has been great. Regular maintenance and tires have been the only expense and it is still running strong. I ponder getting another car (Jeep, Durango, or Colorado) every once in a while, but I still enjoy driving my DJ. I've enjoyed this forum and can't believe I've been on here for 5 years.

Here's to another 5 years - with no issues!!!  :shift:

I too am having this issue and just got out of warranty. Are software updates covered still even if past 36k warranty cutoff? Just trying to save a dealership visit if i dont need one.

Typically they are customer pay after the 3/36,000 which is dumb but hey I guess they got their reasons. Some of them are considered flash updates and they will be covered regardless since they’re more like recalls in that aspect. I would say you ask your service advisor about it next time your at the dealership for a oil change (if you use one) or you could give them the vin and they could probably tell you.

if you’re having the exact issue as the OP I would say it’s most likely a wheel speed sensor and a quick scan would tell you which one was not responding!

    Hello,

First post here, and I've found some information but not all the information I'm after.  I have a traction control light on the dash, around the area where a CEL would be, left side on the gauge cluster.  Traction control button activates a light indicator on the right side of the gauge cluster.  I'm not sure if that's the source of the cruise control not working, but I feel there is a correlation.   Cruise control doesn't work at all.  Dealer did a software update, open recall, which we hoped would affect the issue, but did not.  Journey appears to be out of warranty for a cruise control issue at 39,000 +/- miles.

Hopefully someone on here has had a similar issue and can share a resolve!

    Thank you

Wheel speed sensor! Codes should point you to which one!

  10. Hey everyone!

I thought I would share the products I use to keep the old trash wagon looking it’s best. I thought this might be helpful for anyone trying to keep their Journey looking good and keeping it easier to clean!

    let’s start with the outside,

so I have a wash club membership at our local car wash so most of what I do is after I run it through the car wash but I typically to a rinse before I go in since I live on a dirt road (and I don’t want the dirt rubbed around on my paint!) so needless to say I wash the Journey once a week.

after I have washed the Journey. I start with the Meguiar’s Quick Detail which helps remove anything left on the car after the wash and gets it ready for the next step! I use just a regular microfiber towel to apply this and it really gives it a pretty smooth feel just after this step.

the next step is to apply the Meguiars Quick Wax. Since I have to park outside and I’m washing the car frequently I started doing this every wash just to restore the wax finish I keep washing off. It’s applied with a microfiber towel as well. At this point the Journey looks showroom ready and I feel like an idiot spending this much time keeping it clean some days??.

then the glass! I use the Rainx cleaner inside and out on all the windows. It works great and it doesn’t take a lot of cleaner to clean them all.

for the wheels I also use both of the products above since they’re just black painted wheels. I also use the all wheel cleaner as well before it goes through the wash.

I usually just try to dry dust the dash with a microfiber towel but if I am wanting a little extra shine I use the Meguiars Supreme Shine. It gives it a more shiny appearance but doesn’t give it a waxy build up like Armor All does.

What products do you all use on your Journey?
