Miguel Pereira reacted to elstm3 in Adding Factory Heated Seats and Steering Wheel
I just finished adding oem heated seats and a heated steering wheel to our 17 Journey. I used a set of Salvage yard seats from a 2013 Journey RT for the heated seat module, seat wiring harness and heated seat pads. while in the salvage yard i took pictures of the wiring harness to see if ours was factory wired for the options.

The first 2 pictures are of the salvage yard wiring harness from the 13 RT drivers seat, the 3rd is for the heated steering wheel, the blue plug goes into the back of the clock spring. The clock spring is different for a heated steering whee, it has 2 extra wires with a white connector on the front of the clock spring and a plug on the top right for the blue connector on the back. I sourced a clock spring from a salvage yard in Canada.

After installing all of the hardware i used my alphaobd to enable the settings in the bcm for the heated seats and steering wheel.

    the settings i changed were:
ecu config 3: front heated seats
ecu config 3: heated steering wheel
ecu config 4: heated seats present
    memory: heated steering wheel present
cabin net: HSM heated seat module

after making the changes and shutting the car down and restarting the menu changed and was updated and the heated seats and wheel were working through the 8.4 touch screen.

i also added the srt pages to the radio.

    Update:
after testing a few remote code ID's, the following functions on my 5 button remote are recognized by the RFH according to my Ancel X6 car scanner. :
Unlock (ID 08), works Lock (ID 02), works Liftgate / Decklid (ID 04), does not work Remote Start (ID 40), works Lock + Panic (ID 03), does not work however, if I go to AlfaOBD -> Radio Frequency Hub(RFH) -> System Status -> Read System Status
In the parameter: "Last RKE (Remote Key Entry) Fobik Button Released"
only "Unlock", "Lock", "Liftgate / Decklid" AND "Remote Start" are shown. ?!?

can someone with AlfaOBD and a working panic button confirm this?

if someone could post a BODY_CHRYSLER_Info.log of his dodge journey with the "Liftgate" or the "Panic" button working, that would be great. preferred year would be 2012, but any 2011+ model would probably help.

So I ordered the map upgrade USB stick from Chrysler.navigation.com and went through the upgrade process. It was an absolute success and my navigation screen is working 100% perfectly now.

That's what I thought as well, and like was mentioned before, at least I will have the map data to keep resetting it.

I think the idea is that replacing the entire radio will be a “proper” and permanent fix to the issue of memory corruption of the detailed map data, however it’s not guaranteed since the replacement unit could fail in the same way.

reflashing the map data will fix your problem, until it gets corrupted again.  I had to flash it once... hasn’t been a problem since.   If it ever gets corrupted again, I will follow the same procedure using the map data I already have to restore the maps.

seems like that is the best approach.

    Update:
After I set: Horn Chirp Allowed:  Yes
The functions "Sound Horn on Lock" and "Sound Horn on Remote Start" are working.
I still have absolutely no clue why the RFH does not recognise when I press the panic button, and as long as this does not work, the function will not work.

    Hi Miguel
I don't really know what i'm looking for, i was just planing to do a file compare to find out what is different if my settings, that could prevent the panic button from working.
Maybe it's just the country code.
Another question: do you guys have a tailgate open button on your FOBIK?
The Freemont FOBIK only has two buttons: "open" and "close", but according to my scanner, the car does recognise if I press the trunk/tailgate button but it does not recognise the panic button beeing pressed.

Miguel Pereira reacted to tdottrucker in Apple CarPlay suggestions
I am a new owner to a 2016 Dodge Journey R/T. I have been doing a fair amount of research on how to achieve some level of Apple CarPlay without needing to take out a second mortgage.

I have heard about modules that can be used with your factory system, this would be preferable to keep all the original controls over the various features i have like heated steering and seats.

I am seeking the opinion and suggestion of others here on what would be the lowest cost option of adding Apple CarPlay to my Journey. I am not picky on if it has to be wired or wireless, or controlled through an aftermarket module or something like that. Even if i had to replace the head unit to the 8.4AN but if there’s assurances i would not loose any current functionality of my vehicle.

I have the Uconnect 8.4n with Garmin CTP16 nav, which right now is not showing streets except for major highways (interstates). The cost to keep the maps updated would be better spent to use Waze or another nav software through CarPlay.

thank you all in advance and i am loving this Journey already and it’s only been a few hours with it

I bought alphaobd with an mx+ in order to be able to better troubleshoot some AWD circuit issues in my 200.  I was also able to conclusively diagnose a faulty wiper switch on my daughters jeep.  If I had know about it earlier I would have done my own proxy alignment on my 200 and saved a hundred dollars and an afternoon.  When I bought the Journey a couple weeks ago, the rear windows were not working properly.  I was able to connect to the driver door module and could control the front windows with the app, but not the rear ones.  But I was able to see that an intermittent connection fault to the module was in the history.  Turned out that the drivers door harness had a loose connection.

My only complaint with this app is that it can be a bit convoluted to find my way to the correct module to control settings and sometimes the one thing I want to control or test is missing.

I would like to play with settings stuff some more though.   It seems that in spite of the power of this app, it's mostly ignored outside of ram truck world.

Been a long time member, but never posted a pic of my Dodge Journey RT. I've had it new since 2014 and we've taken this on may road trips, including all the way to Florida. On the highway with the roof carrier, and fully loaded, it's pretty fuel efficient and averaged 8/100km.

Chances are there needs to be feedback from the mirror to the BCM for it to work - likely a different wiring harness and mirror assembly.

If my ride was newer I'd perhaps have invested in this - making the speedo a bit more accurate would have been nice - I assume that the LED setting either adjusts, or disables the current sensors for those bulbs and nothing more . . . .since there's no way I'd put LED conversions in the headlights and nothing else ever seems to burn out, that setting is of very limited utility to me personally.

Note to Miguel - if you use the appropriate size tires there is no adjustment required when switching from one size wheel to the other - they have the same circumference.

Yes I have a 16 Ram 1500 and 15 Dodge Journey for the wife. The Alfaobd has many great features. I have removed seatbelt chime, changed the acceleration factor, switched from the halogen headlight settings to LED. Also have recalibrated the speedo due to larger tire. There’s another setting too for windows down with key fob which worked great too. It’s a great app inexpensive and well worth the money. I have activated a rear backup camera no need for a dealer etc. I’m surprised that more people don’t know about it. If you are having trouble connecting it then I agree I believe a bypass cable is needed for newer models 17 and up?

I tried to connect with mine it will read but won't modify im assuming that i need a bypass cable but can't find information on that if anyone has used or done please help

The most common reason is chafed wiring in the harness where is passes through the corrugated conduit that connects the body to the lift gate.

Well, it's been over a year since I "bricked" my GPS/compass feature. Bought an used Garmin 2597LTM unit for $30 USD off eBay, and it works wonders. But I kept wondering if there was a way to recover...

Well, here's the solution I finally got...search for salvaged/junked Dodge Journeys with the RB5 radio and buy the RB5 radio once you verify that the car has RB5 using the VIN at any of the sites that allow you to see a vehicle's ID number. Also make sure the unit is working prior to spending your money. A good salvage yard will provide photo evidence that it is working.

Removal and replacement of the RB5 module is quick and easy, just make sure you copy down the replacement radio's serial number (infotainment.com shows you how to do the replacement on a YouTube video)

Once you replace the RB5 with the used one, you might need to enter the Anti Theft code, which you can get from any Dodge dealer, over the phone (using your VIN and the replacement radio's serial number).

There's a good chance the replacement RB5 unit may need to have the maps unlocked...at this point, you can run the update procedure as listed in post #1. I did this last week...for $250 USD, I was able to get my 2014 Journey's GPS back to life. The Garmin unit I had previously purchased on eBay had the latest version of the North America maps (2020.30), which I was able to download to my trusty USB flash drive. The RB5 I bought for $250 from a junkyard had CTP16, which I downgraded easily to CTP13, and reloading the maps was a question of sitting in my car during my son's hockey practice.

All in all, better than spending over $1000 USD at the dealer or getting the infotainment modules.

After two weeks of try I have finally resolved the unlock map problem, 0x31A0 issue and upgraded to 2020.10 Map today!!

The map version I loaded to USB is 2020.10, total file size is aorund 6.1 GB.

Like many others, I have 0x31A0 error too and read every reply in this thread from page 1 to last and learned a lot from others. As other says, the key to resolve 0x31A0 is the USB drive! Basically, the symptom of 0x31A0 is when you insert USB, it fails the validation and says "Please retry update procedure or contact your dealer for assistance"; then if you do not click OK for 3 or 4 sec. it will pop up "Error on Reflashing. Errorcode: 0x31A0. Please touch screen".

Overall, the key to pass validation and avoid 0x31A0 is to get a big brand USB 3.0 formatted as FAT32. I would recommend an at least 16GB USB drive if you are buying new one as the map will get bigger in following years anyway.

Here are all USB I tried and failed:

Noname 8GB USB 2.0 FAT32 -- No recognized at all
    Kingston 8GB USB 2.0 FAT32 -- Recognized, validation failed. 0x31A0.
Noname 128GB USB 2.0 NTFS -- Not supported USB
Sandisk 256GB USB 3.0 exFAT -- Not supported USB

I read somewhere in this thread that people have higher success rate with USB 3.0 FAT32 format, but since my new Sandisk 256GB USB 3.0 came with exFAT which is better capabilities than FAT32. However, Windows does not allow me to format it to FAT32, I have to use DiskGenius to format my 256 GB USB to FAT32.

After that, just loaded all files mentioend in original posting to USB, validation passed, navigation rebooted and the copying files to car took me around 1.5 hours, and finally I was noticed "Update Maps successfully" and "cant unlock detail maps" error is gone!

Also, with a larger USB I never need to use the Fallback method to load ASR, JCV, SID folders multiple times. All files and folders are copied to my car once.

If you have 0x31A0 issue, just keep in mind and convince your self that your dodge vehicle is a picky vehicle and only premium USB drive can match a premium vehicle.

Special thanks to RScottyL, tanbam and many other members!

I did not acquire a Garmin Nuvi to get all necessary files. see [https://mega.nz/#F!gQIVkaZR!0gwsBO_4sO7g--fWHbAOMA] If you are reading this, keep it low profile.

As I explained previously I just entered the Dodge Journey experience as a owner...
After some reading I concluded that the 2014 onward was very good bet as the brakes have improved. I took from there and here I am.
So far I love the car. Of course I could complain about consumption... but I won't... I went for a V6 and I know it!
But so far in these 3 weeks of ownership I've had some really revealing experiences.

Without naming names and places here's my saga regarding the Navigation and attempt:
One day I went to buy new front wiper blades and a cabin filter. When I started to change the cabin filter, removed the glove-box and found a big invoice that got stuck behind it. That invoice is from maintenance done at Chrysler Dealership that also sold the car. There's the details of the original owner. I emailed him and asked for some details. He kindly replied authorizing to contact them for the full history and to alert me that there's an extended warranty on the car...
I contact the dealership and the service manager sent me all the maintenance done so far and, quote: " also the vehicle has extended contract so when you go to the Dealer in Toronto make sure it is transferred and have them check your Navi because under the plan a radio would be covered." The same radio was already replaced on 3/6/16 at 23,229 km...  I've been to two dealerships where I live. The one where I did the steering wheel recall and another... The first never told me about extra protection available or any other details... They tell me the 5/100,000 km warranty is for the power-train. The rest was 3 years and 60,000 km.  A new radio is around $1,000.00. They ask me if where I bought it included an extra warranty and to call them to find out. I did. Very professionally they said no BUT to go ahead with the replacement as they would pay for it! The second was better but pushed me back to original Chrysler dealership which has on record the extended warranty, and say they are the ones supposed to transfer the warranty to me.  So I emailed the original dealership... they asked for ownership and mileage. They did it and got back to me confirming it and asking to wait 24 hours  to make sure it shows up under my name. After I got back to the dealer i bought it from. Explained all, and everybody is happy. As a courtesy they are giving me some cash back... I didn't ask for nothing. It just goes towards a very good impression I retained from where I bought it. After all this I'm still trying to find and download all the files needed for the solution in these thread (I accept tips)... Because after all warranties expire... we can always use this method to make the Nav come back...

Thanks for reading... It's the sharing of information that keeps forums great!

This is a long shot in the dark. But everyone that is experiencing problems with their GPS units, with the maps not available; are you still using your stock battery? I recently had a problem with my unit in October 2018. Shortly there after, my battery has died. It was the factory stock still installed after 5 years. Anyway, I changed to an after market battery and got rid of the stock battery. Since October 2018, I haven't had any further problems with the GPS unit. I'm hoping that it sticks. But it makes me wonder. Is it really the GPS unit that is faulty or the stock battery that sells with the Dodge Journey?

Had this issue on my 2014 Dodge Journey. The screen turned black, and then the next time it turned on, no detailed maps... I asked the dealer about it and the guy had heard about it and said the only fix was to replace the stereo. That didn't sound right. It took a lot of searching to find all files, but finally found them all (and upgraded to the 2018 maps). I couldn't do the one step update (got half way then failed, but the multiple step worked). I left the 5 files in the main folder and the SQLite folder (unsure if that helps, or if I have anything extra, but it all worked). Here were my steps (PM me if you need an help with files):

    DOWNGRADE TO CTP13

Downgrade radio navigation to CTP13! This is very important as newer versions have securIty that prevents loading of maps without dealer codes. Take a second USB drive with the gupdate.gcd from CTP13. Turn on the car and hold temp up + temp down + front defrost, after a few seconds dealer mode will pop up. Select garmin recovery update and plug in the usb drive with CTP13 on it. NOTE: After you flash this it takes a long time to load. Let it load and it will still say cannot unlock maps. Just click ok, you may need to restart your car one time to click out of the pop up.

RESTORE MAPS (LONGER VERSION, SHORT VERSION DIDN’T WORK)

    Step 1:
    1) On the USB stick, create another folder in the root named "Disabled".
    2) Move the Garmin subfolders (ASR, JCV, & SID) into the "Disabled" folder. Keep the five files (gmapprom.img, gmap3d.img, gmaptz.img, gmapbmap.img and gmapdem.img) and the SQLite folder in the Garmin folder.
    3) Plug the USB stick into the car and perform the update. It will take about one hour. You don’t have to keep the vehicle running but rather in the ON position. The vehicle will turn off after 30 minutes, so do a cycle before that time (don’t start the vehicle as it will turn the system on and off again).

    Step 2:
    1) On the USB stick, move gmap3d.img, gmaptz.img, gmapbmap.img and gmapdem.img from the Garmin folder into the Disabled folder. Leave only gmapprom.img in the Garmin folder.
    2) Move the JCV folder from the Disabled folder into the Garmin folder (SQLite Folder stays).
    3) Plug the USB stick into the car and perform the update again.
When this is done, the Junction View is now installed, and the 3D landmarks and time zones are still there.

    Step 3:
    1) On the USB stick, move the ASR and SID folders from the Disabled folder into the Garmin folder. Leave gmapprom.img and the JCV and SQLite folders.
    2) Plug the USB stick into the car and perform the update once again. After this is completed, the system is fully updated to the new maps and all features work except for the phone number lookup.

    ___

    UPGRADE RADIO

Using the latest files from https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html upgrade the radio and GPS software. In September 2018, these files were: CTPMY14.KWI (Radio to 7.09) and gupdate.gcd (CTP17). The first is the only file in the root directory of the flash drive. The second is the only file in the Garmin folder (no other folders or files on the drive). Do one and then the other.

I need to write this because after spending hours online researching this issue, someone on here said that if the radio was replaced during warranty, it should be replaced for the life of vehicle & to contact Chrysler. Well, I apologize for not knowing your screen name, but I want to THANK YOU!!
I own a 2015 journey r/t awd, loaded, RB5 satellite, nav, etc. I purchased in 12/15 & in 2/16 got the "can't unlock maps". Brought to dealer & they said I needed new radio. They did recall but it didn't change anything. The radio was replaced in July 2016. Fast forward to 2/2018, same issue with maps, & now siriusxm says "no signal see dealer for service".  I brought to dealer & they said I was 4k miles out of warranty. I told service mngr that radio was replaced for same thing in 2016.  She says so that was 3 years ago. Um, no, that would be 2 years lady. They checked it out anyway, & said I needed new radio but you're out of warranty.
I've spent weeks trying to locate an affordable used radio, which wasn't easy. I read thru this forum endlessly looking for answers.
Finally, before purchasing a radio from a salvage yard, I saw the post about contacting FCA.
I spoke to them, not expecting much, due to my past dealings with Ford customer service, to which there is no worse!!
Anyway, they immediately connected me with uconnect to escalate the case.
I spoke with James, & he agreed & said it will absolutely be replaced since the same problem is occurring again. I couldn't believe it! Then he said due to my inconvenience, how would I feel about a few years of free oil changes & a loaner during my dealer visit to install new radio. Wow, just wow. I've owned Dodges since 2004, after leaving Ford for life after having to sue them under lemon law for my F450, after the engine seized 3X under warranty. I've never had to call Chrysler before, but it couldn't have gone better.
Thank you again, & I just hope this can help someone else.

This color was an absolute surprise... As I saw the ad and started comparing with others in order to buy the car, this color was always growing in me... All my cars before were gray!
But this purchase was a celebration of life as well.
Long story short, no drama here, between last September through December all doctors doubted I would live through January. Well I did and back in great shape/health! It was time to celebrate and the color reflects so!
