Cracking leather

Well... Seat cover was changed and its doing it again. As to answer the questions about Katzkin, no they do not do the factory leather. My wife's cherokee has are done using Katkin, and the leather on her seat is thicker and of better quality than the oem one. I used maguires leather cleaner and conditioner. It still looks and smell like new approaching the 14k mile mark.

I have 3000 miles now and the wrinkles in my seats are getting worse. I buy a new car every four years and have for 30+ years and this is by far the biggest piece of crap I ever bought. No not just because of the seats.

Leather is a natural product, so there are going to be differences in the rate of wear in different pieces of leather in the seats, and even in different areas of the same piece of leather. It varies in pliability & strength as well, depending where on the animal hide it came from. Errors or differences in the tanning process can also sometimes create different results. (I do like leather seats, because it is not as hot as vinyl in the summer, and not as cold in the winter. Or maybe I should say that the temperature adjusts more quickly. Sure, there will be some wear, but I also think that it is easier to care for than cloth - doesn't stain, etc. Both of our previous minivans had leather, but now we have a Journey & a Grand Caravan, both with cloth seats.)

I have cloth in my '11 R/T. I think the Lux that year was leather. R/T came with more sporty cloth & red stitching. I preferred the black cloth and stitching. In general, I think cloth is better than leather. Warm in winter and cooler in summer vs leather. Cheaper too. I'm sure leather has advantages, but whatever. From what I've seen on this forum, I'm glad I have cloth. The leather in the DJ seems cheap. Smooth leather seats should not develop wrinkles in the first year. My cloth seats still look perfect.

Peace.

Mine is showing the beginning of wear marks, but not cracks. I'll let it go for a while and see what happens.

Up here we have a small company (Fibernew) that does awesome repairs on anything leather, whether it be lather car interiors, couches , jackets etc. I had him repair my leather seat in my Journey and after 2 years the repair is doing very well. I also had him repair a dime sized hole in my Saturn Sky drivers seat and it can't be found now. If any one is interested and if I can find the photos I could put them up. There probably someone in you area that could do the same.

I must admit I do have the leather package in my car and for me the biggest advantage of this is probably my dog, if he gets the seats muddy I just wipe them off.

Right. I knew there were advantages to leather. I know our dog's claws have scratched the leather seats in my wife's Saturn. That's a disadvantage that I saw prior to purchasing the DJ. I won't allow our dog on my DJ seats. She gets the third row cargo area.

Peace.
