davidhorsey Posted July 7, 2014 Report Share Posted July 7, 2014 It started with turning the key to just hear the relay clicking and nothing else...no start. For the past few weeks, if it does it I open the fuse box and wiggle the relays around and car starts. I thought it was the starter relay, so I switched it with another similar relay and the problem did not stop, so I don't think it is that. This weekend, we were out of town and I went to start it and absolutely nothing. Thought it was dead battery, so we jumped. Would barely charge, finally started after about 20 minutes and hooked up two jumper cables. As I was driving, several warning lights would flash on and the speedometer would drop to zero and then immediately go back to normal with no effect on the engine running. This happened about a dozen times yesterday in about 3 hours of highway driving. Plus, we keep losing power to radio (can tell because time keeps getting reset). Plus, the led display for the mileage and gear position under the tachometer is lightly flickering. This morning, same thing, tried to start and nothing, jiggled around with the fuse panel under hood and then started. Radio clock had been reset and mileage led flickering. Obviously, there is something electrical going wrong, and I figure all these things have to tie back to the same problem. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

bigtsr Posted July 7, 2014 Report Share Posted July 7, 2014 Corosion on the relay/TIPM and possibly at the starter itself. If it starts without a jumper after jiggling the relays around would seem to indicate the alternator circuit is viable. I would clean all terminals from the battery (how old) to the starter. Doug D Posted July 15, 2014 Report Share Posted July 15, 2014 Possible CAN C bus issue (Cabin Area Network) - the warning lights cycling, and speedometer going to zero are the clues. Did the wipers wipe every 2 seconds even though they were off? This happened to our '09 Journey at 38K miles and just out of warranty. Ended up trading it for a lightly used '10 Journey SXT.
