Lights, Wipers, Dashboard all activated randomly while driving

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My Dodge journey 2012 2.4L is starting wipers, dashboard lights are flashing, chime starting to "ping" non stop, all this while driving.

Vehicule doesn't turn or shut OFF by itself while doing this problem BUT if I shut it OFF, impossible to restart it before few hours... If I try to restart it, it starts all accessories at same time without starting... Impossible tu turn OFF any accessories involved...

It looks like after 12 hours it "reset" a module than is ok to restart but "check engine" light turns ON for few days then dissapear until next episode of problem...

My garage is thinking about part #68164872AC.

Can you please let me know if I'm the only one having this problem or it is common?

Thanks,

before throwing $$$ better have it checked out to see if that is the problem first, kind of expensive. have heard some readers  say the power distribution box has caused them problems with corrosion under there where the   connectors are, good luck     most dodge dealerships charge around 100 to 150 to check something like this out they would be the best place to have it checked but also probally the most expensive as well.........Good luck

Hi there.  I know this post is 2 years old, but I was wondering if you ever determined the issue?  I currently have a 2012 Dodge Journey RT.  About 2 months ago, I had the first, shall I say "event".  While driving one night, the wipers came on by themselves, the dash lights went out, my dash warning lights came on, and I had a NO BUS message where my odometer reading would typically be.  Went home, put the battery charger on it, (charge after each event, and battery is typically down to about 50% at the time).  Took it to a local garage, paid for a diagnostic, which said TIPM was the issue.  We have replaced the TIPM and it is doing it again.  We are at a loss, and cannot afford to keep taking it for "diagnostics", only to find out that the answer did not fix the issue.  Thank you!

as you said a 2 yr old post with no follow up from the org poster who only posted one time, this doesn't help other people needing help as well....feed back is very important on the solutions to their problems

Hello, I am having the same issue with my 2013 Journey and it's becoming rather annoying to get stuck somewhere for longer than I wanted to be or even drive with the windshield wipers going.  Paid for something to be done which did not work.  Was hoping someone had the answer and approximate cost to fix.

The answer is really trouble shooting to narrow it down to one problem or part. Often it’s grounds and not a power supply issue.  So cleaning up as many frame grounds as possible is always a good starting point, takes a bit of time.  It could even be a module like the BCM that controls multiple grounds for the wire harness. And can be a vehicle option specific part.

Electrical speciality shops are often better at this than general maint mechanical places. Dealers sometimes have a person who specializes at it. Wiring schematics and knowing how to read them…is usually required. Checking for ecm codes is another important step. Free advice worth everything you pay for it.

Yes! Thank you, Dean, I'm having the adove problems on my 2013 Journey, and I was recently under the hood looking at those ground cables thinking "those look like they need a cleaning". I'll start by cleaning up the grounds and think about the upgrades in the other post. Grounds are easy. Thanks again!

You need to get it read for codes.

This will give us something to work with.

Start with the battery, cables and ground cables.

my daughters jeep did this yrs ago and she traded it in and then later on I learned a lot of dodges have this'd common problem, as John mentioned check all your grounds on the motor and body but mostly a lot of the time it was from corrosion under the tipm box,,,check this on you tube for more info
