Journeyman425 got a reaction from Rgwog in I have an obsession with cleaning this car
I'm enjoying the little time that I do have this summer. We put a 22' X 25' basketball court in for my two boys last month, and they have been hanging out with their friends playing hoop while I clean the car and watch at the same time. In less than a month they'll be back to school and the car will be all over creation with games, practices, rehearsals and various other activities and that will be the end of the always-clean Journey. I'll still keep it nice but won't have the time to do it nearly as often.
Sometimes a little multitasking is in order. My wife works nights (nurse) so she takes the 300M when she goes to the hospital and leaves me the Journey, Get home from work. Dinner is made but has to be heated 15 minutes. Put it in the oven and quick wash the car. Leave it wet, eat with the kids, clean up, towel off the car and drive one of them to a friends house. Get home and now the car is dry. Kid #2 is playing outside, 30 minutes is all it takes to throw on a quick coat of Miami Shine and some tire dressing and clean the water spots off the glass. Voila! Clean car and some quality time with family. Life is good!

Journeyman425 got a reaction from Kalyphus in Updating REU to latest
I did a search on DealerConnect and the only thing I came up with was this:
    STAR Case
Contact the STAR Center for assistance if no solution is found
    Chrysler Group LLC Version 3
    Case Number: S1308000026
    Release Date: 01/24/2013
    Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
REU Radio, Software Enhancement Updates, Blue Tooth Pairing
    Diagnosis:
REU radios may have concerns related to Bluetooth phone pairing that can be improved with an
update disc that is currently available. The disc available is labeled for an REX radio, (68171168AAversion
8.315), but can be used in a REU update.
    Repair Procedure:
Verify that the radio software version is at 8.315 or greater.
    a. Press the hard "Set up” button on the face of the radio.
    b. Select “System information”.
    c. The software level is the number reported below the word “Application”.
    d. This disc (labeled REX update) will update a REU radio below software version 8.315.
    e. Update the radio as needed to complete.
    Verification:
Verify the software level was installed to complete.
It appears to me that a trip to the dealer will be the only other way to do this unless you are able to find a browser which supports the MyGig link. Did you purchase your Journey through a dealer? If so, they should update the unit for you as per the purchase. If not, pay a visit to a local dealer and intruduce yourself to the service manager. Explain that you have made all attempts to update yourself but no browser supports the link, and would they be willing to lend you the disc for a few minutes while you pop it in out in the lot and update the files? More than likely they will tell you that they have to create a repair order and charge you for the update, but you have nothing to lose by asking.

I think the tow rating belies the car's actual capability. Of course, as a dealer service manager I cannot publicly condone towing over the posted limits, but my experience was just like yours. The car showed absolutely no sign of struggle and handled the load with ease. Just like yourself, I monitored all the temperature values in the EVIC and yes, even the fuel economy did not suffer drastically. Now, my camper weighs less than yours and our trip was on level terrain but it was done in 90 degree weather with the A/C on. The nice thing about all this is that now I know that if we want to go a significant distance with the camper, there's peace of mind knowing the car is well within its design parameters rather than straining at its limit.

Journeyman425 got a reaction from Rgwog in Brake shudder on new Journey
. While it was sitting mid week i noticed a good glaze of rust coating the rotors.
That condition is known as "trace corrosion" and it is very common. After I wash my 2000 300M and the car sits overnight, the rotors have an orange tinge to them the next morning and the first couple of brake applications produce a scraping sound until it is swept off. Trace corrosion itself won't cause so much as a chatter as it will a scraping sound. The car I took off the road - a 1999 300M - sat for two months at my shop before i used it again last week while my new Journey was in the bodyshop (see my thread "Hit Last Weekend). The brakes had a distinctive rotating rumble sound even without the brakes applied due to rust on the rotors which built up while it sat. Once I ran the car for a couple of days, it went away. I was surprised at how rusty they became just sitting in that relatively short time. We did have a lot of rain and very high humidity here during that period of non-use which would be similar to the week yours sat in that salty environment.

That is spanking wow! The paint looks like a glass to me! Im obsess also, but i always fail to make mine that shiney. I use liquid wax every week! I dust it with quick detailer every two days and paste wax every 4 months! I dust it with california duster every day! Am i missing something?? It looks like your having a clear coat but as i understand copper also has pearl coat like my briilant black pearl coat!

I have a bit of obsession with keeping this car clean. No sooner did I get it home than I waxed it top to bottom with Ardex Miami Shine (except for the newly painted bumper) which is a liquefied carnuba paste wax. Three hours later it proceeded to rain on it just enough to get it all spotted, then today the kids had a baseball game 50 miles away and it rained some more. After she got it home I re-cleaned it using Ardex Hydrogloss spray detailer. Just for kicks I washed and detailed my trusty 300M as well. The trouble with Copper Pearl is it shows everything! I have also discovered that It is one of those colors that truly looks gorgeous when it is spotlessly clean and free of dust. As soon as it begins to get dirty, it loses its magic which makes me obsess the way I do. I know, I have issues...

Does your dealership have another, similarly equipped 2013 Journey in stock? If so, ask to test-drive the new car with the service manager and see if you can duplicate the sound in the new one. If you cannot duplicate it in the new car, then go right to yours and drive the same route as you did in the new car and duplicate your complaint to the service manager. That will rule out whether or not the sound is normal (I'm sure that it is not, based on what you are saying, but A to B comparisons always help bolster your case) Once that is demonstrated, then they will continue with diagnosis until it is resolved.

Journeyman425 got a reaction from mkatona in Roof weight limits w/ OEM mopar cross bars
    From the owner's manual:
ROOF LUGGAGE RACK — IF EQUIPPED
The roof rack cross rails and side rails are designed to
carry cargo weight. The load must not exceed 150 lbs
(68 kg), and it should be distributed uniformly over the
cross rails. In addition, the roof rack does not increase the
total load carrying capacity of the vehicle. Be sure the
total load of cargo inside the vehicle plus that on the roof
rack does not exceed the maximum vehicle load capacity.

We also wanted a third row after selling our 2005 Pacifica (which replaced a 1995 Cheerokee) for the times we have visitors. We looked at ALL options.. Durango, Buick, Explorer, Flex, Sorento, Santa Fe, Town&Country.. You name it we looked at it, and in the end, the Journey SXT Blacktop was our pick. It's smooth, good looking, and comfortable... not to mention decent on the MPG. I'm sure everyone has thier own stories, but for our family we stuck with Chrysler.

Flash Lights with Remote Key Lock
This feature will cause the turn signal lights to flash when the doors are locked or unlocked with the RKE transmitter. This feature can be turned on or turned off. To change the current setting, proceed as follows:
For vehicles equipped with the EVIC, refer to “Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)/Personal Settings (Customer-Programmable Features)” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel” for further information. For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC, perform the following steps: Press and hold the UNLOCK button on a programmed RKE transmitter for at least 4 seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds. Then, press and hold the LOCK button while still holding the UNLOCK button. Release both buttons at the same time. Test the feature while outside of the vehicle by pressing the LOCK/UNLOCK buttons on the RKE transmitter with the ignition switch in the LOCK position and the Key Fob removed. Repeat these steps if you want to return this feature to its previous setting. Note: Pressing the LOCK button on the RKE transmitter while you are in the vehicle will activate the Security Alarm. Opening a door with the Security Alarm activated will cause the alarm to sound. Press the UNLOCK button to deactivate the Security Alarm.

Quite frankly, I am shocked. As a dealer service manager, this is not protocol as I am accustomed to it. In all honesty, we are rarely, if ever, involved in rentals since we're in a small town and we can usually provide a loaner where needed. When a customer calls Chrysler seeking assistance of some sort, they always call us to qualify the customer's request and will almost always offer some assistance. In a case like yours where the cylinder head is a known problem and your car is relatively new, I would expect Chrysler to honor your request for rental coverage. If the dealer's District Service Manager will authorize it, then the dealer can submit a claim for the rental along with the claim for the head and be reimbursed for the Hertz bill.

Journeyman425 got a reaction from RatedR in Are there any differences between 2009 and 2013 TPMS sensors?
Not a silly question at all. Yes, they are different. Not sure if your TPMS will read the older style ones automatically or not. Worst case scenario is that the low tire light will be on. If so, larryl is correct that the new style sensors can be retrofitted to your 2009 wheels. For what it is worth, the 2009 wheels are now at least four years old and the sensor batteries are close to the end of their useful life anyway. See what happens when you install them and go from there.

While it is true that TSB repairs are covered within the provisions of the warranty, your dealer can certainly be reimbursed from Chrysler for a reflash if your mileage is only 3000 over. Your vehicle is still within the 36 month time frame. The warranty does, in fact, state that it is either 36 months or 36K miles, whichever occurs first, but since you are well within the time limit and only over by a few thousand miles, coverage would be no problem.
The other, more pertinent point is this: If your vehicle qualifies for the M38 software reflash, then it is considered a Customer Satisfaction / Recall campaign and dealer reimbursement for the reflash would be a non-issue. PM your VIN to me if you like and I can easily check that for you.
With regard to the check engine light - if in fact you have a cylinder misfire due to a faulty head, that would be covered by the Powertrain Warranty which is 60 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. In the meantime, make an appointment to have it checked out since there is a wait time due to their backlog.

Since I expanded my family to 3 children I had to do something to end the "Will you stop touching me" from the backseat of my car. At the time I had an Armada, an Acadia, and a Sonata. I inherited the Acadia from my mother. My wife suggested that we look into something new. I did a search on 3rd seats and one of the first things to pop up was the Journey. After reading the reviews I was intrigued. After looking at the price I was very interest. We went to test drive this past Saturday and was convinced. The dealership ga e us a great deal. They were gave us a great deal on our trades, Armada and Sonata with a small payoff on the Sonata. We walked out with a new SXT with the V6 with only paying for the extended warranty. I've only had it for a few days but it is so nice having one boy in the 3rd row and my other two sitting in the middle.
