  1. Can anyone with a R/T with 19'' wheels help me out? I've just been to my local (UK) Dodge dealer and they want to charge me nearly £300 for a space saver wheel/tyre, winch and cover. Before I go ahead and get the parts can someone take a photo of their spare wheel parts, and also some photos of how the tyre hangs under the car. If there are any part numbers stamped on the parts that would help me out too, just to make sure I get the right bits. Many thanks.
  2. Are you thinking of manual or auto? I wanted to drive both. Our then local dealer only had the auto which I drove. I asked if they could get a manual one in to try but Lookers in Hatfield didn't seem too interested in helping out. I walked away -their loss. The same for the dealer in Milton Keynes. I tracked a manual one down in Peterborough and the salesman there couldn't have been more helpful. Personally I didn't like the manual, maybe it was beacuse the car was new but it didn't seem to be a very slick change. Also selecting reverse seemed a bit awkward. Twice I put it in 1st by mistake! Anyway, the bottom line was I bought the then last available R/T in Deep Water Blue and love it to bits! If you get one be prepared for people looking at you! Lol. I've only ever seen three other Journey's on the road. I quite like the dark silver but I saw one at the Hatfield dealer last year and it was unwashed and it looked really horrible and just filthy grey. I've had a black car -never again! Too hard to keep clean. Silver? Yawn, boring boring boring. So many silver cars about. Red was okay but a second choice. DW Blue really made the car stand out. Cheers! Good luck with the drive!
  3. I got a R/T last March. It's a nice car, comfy, economical (for such a big car) and does all I want it to do. The only problemswas the alarm kept going off. This was a known problem and was soon fixed. The only irritating thing is for 2010 you now get a space saver spare wheel -mine's a can of sealant- and integrated booster seats. The R/T 225/55/19 Kumho tyres are hard to get hold of, most UK sites don't even show the size, even Kumho's UK website! How safe is Chrysler? Nothing is ever certain but it's in a lot better state than a year ago. Quality? You get good and bad cars in all brands but I had a Chrysler Neon for 8 years and all that ever needed was a new pair of wishbone bushes and a replacement battery. Where abouts do you live? Dealer backup is important and the UK dealers vary from excellent to total rubish! Finally, the AWD isn't available in the UK.
  4. My Journey R/T Diesel might be developing a new problem. Recently I've noticed a sort of clonking feel through the steering when I take up drive from a standstill. It's more noticeable if the wheels are turned slightly to the right. It's fine when driving and doesn't clonk over bumps, just when I go to pull away and occasionally if I brake. I feel it rather than hear it, if that makes sense. A trip to the dealer is booked for this Friday. Anyone else had this?
  5. Here's the second export R/T you've seen with a single pipe. Firstly without the tail pipe trim... Now with! I'd be interested in one of those bumper protectors. The best I've seen here in the UK is about £60 on E-Bay.
  6. Here in the UK Dodge is a tiny fish in the big sea of car manufacturers. We only get the Caliber, Avenger, Nitro and Journey. To see one of these cars is fairly rare. Chryslers are a little more common especially the Voyagers (Town & Country) PT Cruisers and to a lesser extent the 300C and Neon. Hardly ever see a Sebring. There are quite alot of Jeeps though! Since Chrysler/Jeep came back to the UK in 1995 I've always liked the look of them as they are different to the usual -boring- Euro/Jap boxes and in 2000 I bought our first 'Mopar' and stayed with them ever since, our family too. So in nearly ten years here's what we've had and what has gone wrong.... 2000 Bought a '97 Neon. Only problem was the air con needed regassing. 2001 Bought a '00 Neon. Just needed a pair of front wishbone bushes and the battery gave up this time last year. 2009 Bought Dodge Journey R/T Diesel. Alarm kept going off, known problem and new sensors fitted. 2000 My Mum bought a '97 Neon and had it 7 years (gave up driving due to broken hip). No problems at all. 2001 My Brother bought a '97 Jeep Cherokee. All it's needed was a brake caliper, nothing else. With our family having five 'Mopars' we've had none of the issues that you often see on forums about these cars and I'm happy to continue to buy as long as the product interests me, does what I want it to do, and the aftersales is good. So, the question about a 2010 Journey? It's up to you. You can read all the problems that people have had with them but how many people are out there who havn't had problems because they don't need to post on a forum to say 'I've had no problems' -it doesn't make very interesting reading!! Here in Britain the motoring press hasn't had many good words to say about Chrysler cars over the years but they then contradict themselves by saying the cars may have 'cheap quality' interiors and not as good to drive as other makes but say they are fairly reliable -servicing is quite pricey though. I usually ignor what other people say and make up my own mind. Reports that the Journey's diesel engine is a bit noisey is true but not bad enough to make me not want the car. I like the styling and all the storage compartments, ease of driving, comfort, safety, and the simple way it converts from a 5 to 7 seater. For me that's good enough. I don't know if this helps or not. Cheers!
  7. Sunroof drains do appear to be a problem. I don't have a sunroof on my R/T and havn't had any damp carpets, so hopefully the door seals on these seem to be okay.
  8. Have you got a sunroof?
  9. Yes they are rear fog lights. It's law here in Europe to have at least one high density light at the back. They are normally 21Watt (same as stop lights). Not all cars have two seperate lights but have a fog lamp on one side and a reverse light on the other. Depending if you drive on the right or left depends which way round the lights are. For example here in the UK (left hand traffic, right hand drive) a single fog light has to be on the outside of the car (basically same side as the driver). These fog lights can't be too high either, which is why you often see them in bumpers or the lowest light in a lamp stack. To turn them on in a Journey first turn the lights on. Next pull out the end of the stalk to get the front fogs on, then turn the end of the stalk again for the rear lights to work. when the lights are switched off it automatically turns off all the fogs at the same time -otherwise you'll dazzle people next day when it's clear. Many idiots in other cars forget to switch their fogs off the day after it's been foggy, and it's blinding!
  10. They really do need the dark windows and look much better for it.
  11. The alarm going off is apparantly common with the UK Journeys. The fix is two extra sensors fitted to the roof lamps in the 2nd and 3rd row. this should take less than an hour to fit. We had Dodge parking sensors fitted before we picked the car up. Maybe there are cheaper alternatives but I couldn't be bothered to investigate. Also accessories fitted before delivery get a 3 year warranty. If they are fitted once you've taken the car then they only get 1 year. I assume you've got the Diesel? When new we we getting about 30mpg around town and about 35 on a run. Nearly 5000 miles later it's up to 35 town and the best we've had is 42mpg on a distance -we've got the R/T Auto, manual should be a bit better. Cheers!
  12. I've not experienced any of your symtoms with my Diesel R/T. I use the expensive Shell fuel too, unless I need a fill up and Shell isn't an option.
  13. I go the dealer to give me a free rubber boot mat. Parts I've added are; Tail pipe from Halfords.... Door sill scuff plates... I also bought a full size alloy wheel to use as a spare (£165) plus tyre (another £160) special valve (£25) and fitting and balancing. I don't trust those cans of sealant and they are useless if the sidewall gets split or the hole is too big. Back in the Spring the 225/55/19 Kumho tyres were unavailable in the UK. After a few e-mail and phone calls to Dodge UK and Kumho UK I was told that they would be impoting some tyres in for stock. The tyre I got was direct from Dodge UK but where they got it from is anyones guess. I think that's why it cost £160. I think the price from a tyr dealer would be about £120ish. It might be worth talking to your neares tyre dealer just to see what the availability is now. Back in April a lady from Kumho said 'If you want a tyre we can order one'. I asked how long that would take. 'About three months' (!). Yeah, great news if I was sitting at the side of the motorway with an unrepairable flat!
  14. Apparantly I had the last blue R/T -that was back in March.
  15. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I havn't had any of the problems that have been reported here so far. Yet? The only thing I don't like about it is when you hit the lock windows button it also stops the front passenger from using their window. All other cars I've had with electric windows only locks the rear ones when the button is pressed. I want to stop the kids fiddling with them but not the front passenger!
  16. Cool! I got my Deep water Blue R/T from Marshalls of Peterborough. That was because my other two nearest dealers didn't seem to bothered about selling me a car. Funnily those two dealer no longer sell CDJ cars, only service them.
  17. It's comming up for two weeks since the fix on my car, and so far no false alarms at all.
  18. Oooh, that will be two R/T's in the UK then! Mine and yours!!
  19. Hi, I'd be inclined to get it fixed now as there are probably limited numbers of the upgrade kits. Also the 'known' problem is fresh in Dodge UK's minds and they will be expecting calls from us customers. I had to travel 50 miles each way to the dealer I bought the car from as the other two nearest to me wern't that helpfull when I wanted to buy the car and have since stopped selling Dodge (Chrysler & Jeep) but they do still service them. Luckily a Mercedes dealer just 8 miles away are taking on Dodge (CJ) so that will make servicing much easier. BTW which Journey did you get?
  20. I have the 4cyl diesel. That has got quieter and the economy has improved. When new I was getting 28 in town and 34 on the highway. 4000 miles later and I'm doing 33 in town and almost 42mpg on a run. I really don't know why you don't do diesels in the States? If your government wants cars to be more fuel efficient then the manufacturers need to start sticking diesels in them. As least it's a start until electric tecnology becomes cheap and reliable.
  21. I was originally told press the button 3 times too by the dealer. I can't remember if was the handbook or Dodge UK Customer Services told me to press it four times then the car will 'beep' telling you the sensors are disabled. Still, the fix is in place now so go back to the dealer and get them to order the parts. They come in a small poly bag and you get two sensors that match the colour of the roof light fittings, you also get some wiring and instructions. My dealer hadn't done one before and as it took less than an hour I'm guessing it must be pretty straight forward. Day 2 and the Alarm has not gone off in error. Cheers!
  22. I got my alarm sensors fixed today. Since day two of ownership the alarm kept going off, not really a major problem because if you hit the fob lock button four times it disables the sensors. This we've been doing for the past six months while waiting for Dodge to come up with a fix. Today I took the car to Marshalls of Peterborough and within an hour two sensors had been fitted to the 2nd and 3rd row of overhead lighting. The headlining stayed in place as the light units/alarm sensors pop out of it. Nice and speedy! All seems fine (and quiet) now! That's been the only problem with the car. Cheers!
  23. Hi, We've had our CRD R/T Auto for six months and love it! Yes the engine does sound 'diesely' but it is quieter since it's run in but still a little noisey when cold. On a run you can hardly hear it and normal conversation is fine. It will be cheaper on fuel than the petrol but it depends what you want the car for. If you're doing mainly short trips then it's not going to make a huge amount of difference but if you want to use it for holidays all loaded up then I'd go for the diesel. The high pitched whine is probably the turbo spinning up -I actually quite like that! Also we chose the auto as we didn't like the manual -we tried both, maybe you should too. It's a great car and we've had no regreats whatsoever Cheers!
  24. Cool! Another one to spot in the UK. So far I've only ever seen one other Journey and that was about 100 miles from home, on holiday (vacation). They're a rare beast here!
