  1. I don't mince words, but it's not my intention to be offensive. Not really, let's call it a lively discussion. Thank you.
  2. Not if said member considers rust to be perfectly normal, desirable even.
  3. Huh? Who did I bash (apart from fiat for doing a shoddy job in properly protecting the car and not acknowledging the problem when I complained)?
  4. Nothing. It came like this. Maybe yours didn't endure a month at sea without proper anti rust treatment. Well, my dealer just said that's normal. Yeah, right.
  5. @RedLineDodge, I've had many cars over the years, this is the only one with rust problems. All my previous cars were Europeans though...
  6. Even the traditional key has a transceiver nowadays (meant as the last 20 or 30 years), not to mention the remote control to lock/unlock the doors so: it will have the same possible problems as the keyless one (i.e. a faulty detection will prevent the engine from starting) with none of the advantages. they will charge you a similar amount (which has no relation to the real value of the fob). Sorry, there's no escape, unless you drive a car designed and built in the '70.
  7. Or, if you fabricate a new bezel, you can lower the 4.3 screen (i.e., in place of the storage compartment), and IIRC that should give you enough space for a 7" screen above the 4.3" one.
  8. You can't remove the stereo at all (many functions depend on it), however you could relocate the screen in the lower compartment:
  9. For an unrelated project, I need to remove the lower dash panel, the one covering the steering column, maybe that's the one mentioned in point 3 above? Unfortunately I cannot follow the link (since it asks to login). Removing the two nuts on the lower side is not enough to remove the panel, what seems to be a screw cover on the top left (a rectangle), actually isn't, so I don't know if there is some hidden screw or if it's just a matter of pulling hard enough (but I fear I'll break the panel that way).
  10. ...so I made another one (no photos but the procedure is similar) (sorry for the multiple posts, the board wouldn't let me put all images in a single one).
  11. So I covered it with leatherette But still I didn't like it...
  12. The screen in the final location Then I made a bezel with a piece of cardboard painted black, but I didn't like it
  13. I glued the circuit 90ยบ behind the screen Here I added some cables so I could put the buttons somewhere else (under the center console)
  14. A little update: I got tired of the front sceen being so low, so I put it in the space under the Uconnect 4.3" screen. I removed the screen from the original enclosure, separated the circuit board and, removing the pins, I passed the cable through one of the existing holes:
  15. I cannot give a definitive answer, but, while they are two pieces (not sure about the grid though), trying to gently pull the whole grille moves, so I think they're to be considered a single piece.
  16. @Mcgusto82, actually the 4.3 has voice commands, but only for the phone and are triggered by the phone button instead of the VR button.
  17. No, with the 4.3" screen it works this way. With the phone button you can use voice commands though (limited to the phone). According to the manual, the voice button only works when you want to dictate a number during a call or to make another call, though in my limited testing it doesn't seem to work.

    AC broken

According to the manual it should be F109 (red, 10A) in the fuse box behind the glovebox. Good luck, it's very difficult to access.
  19. Regarding the big screen: I wasn't sure about the final position of the navigator, so I bought a 5" unit to put it right below the 4.3" screen. If I knew I would finally put it over the dashboard, I could have bough a 7" navi for more or less the same amount of money.
  20. Actually I have three and it doesn't bother me at all The navi software has a night theme and it dims the screen at night as well as when entering a tunnel. Both features (theme and dimming) are adjustable independently.
  21. I can't argue about the integration (though I don't think it's so important) but an external navigator doesn't mean wires in sight (I hate them too):
  22. I understand that you prefer an OEM system, but my non OEM camera plus an additional monitor cost me less than $40. Paying a premium for an OEM system is normal, but 10x the price? WOW.
  23. Some have reported the same problem at 20k or 30k. Strangely enough I did not have this problem (yet, I'm at 32k), but Fiat here acknowledged the problem and replaces the brakes (and some other parts supposedly causing the problem) with no charge if you complain. Edit: obviously I'm referring to the Journey/Freemont, don't know about other Dodge models.
  24. Oh, I thought that with AF you intended the Alternative Frequencies feature of RDS (which is available in my 4.3)
