  1. Well, I think the communication between Chrysler and Fiat has to improve, because, as you can see from my first post, this is one of the many issues I reported. Or maybe that's their way of ducking the problem "oh, sorry, that's strange, never happened before" hoping that the Internet doesn't exist
  2. The parts alone will cost around $2000-$2500, then you'll have to add labor (provided you'll find a dealer willing to install it). Edit: in case you want to google them, here are the parts # RADIO, AM/FM/DVD/SD/USB/AUX, [RE6] 05064545AF Same with NAV 05064547AF CENTER STACK, Upper [RE2,RE3,RE6,RB4,RB5,RB6] (i.e. the screen assembly) 05064993AD Bezel 1UR33JXPAA I don't know if you also need to change cables.
  3. Yes, I thought that too, but it's strange it affected the interior of a closed vehicle. OK, it's not airtight, but.... Maybe it's minor, but a new car shouldn't be delivered in these conditions. And it isn't going to get better with age, is it? Edit: and that's just where I could look easily, I'm sure that if I remove some panels I'll find more rusty spots.
  4. Hello, I put this in interior because I didn't look for rust everywhere, but I'm sure there are more rusty parts. I saw photos in an Italian forum about rusty parts in a new Fiat Freemont (Dodge Journey in disguise), they're quite shocking and some fellow members doubted their authenticity. I checked my car (6 months old) and I couldn't believe it, it's the same! These are some photos. What do you think? Second row of seats Under the steering wheel Motor support
  5. So you do have RDS over there, strange that you don't see the name then (at least the first 3 characters) without pressing info, in that case your version of the software is even worse than ours . I too can see the full name pressing info, but that shouldn't be necessary, there'd be plenty of space by using a smaller font.
  6. An update, probably not interesting for you since you have a good customer support (haven't you?), but here it is. Before the last update, I called FIAT customer care, and they told me that there was an update available, and that I should contact them again if the problems persisted after the update so that they could escalate the issue. Well, I did, and now they tell me that I have to contact the dealer, since is the dealer that has to solve the problems! This is wrong on so many levels, however I called the dealer explaining the situation and they'll call me back after Easter (in theory, I don't really expect them to call me). Hey, if the dealer is the one writing the software, maybe I could ask them the source code to fix it by myself once and for all  </sarcasm>
  7. BTW, is it really that easy to break? I'm not going to install a lockpick, but I will need to remove it to route a cable and now I'm scared.
  8. The part number is 1UR36JSLAA, I just searched google and found it for $48. It's still an abusive price for a $0.05 part but it's less than $114. Edit: the right side part is 1UR44JSLAA, found for $76.95
  9. FYI: http://www.factorych...05064976AG.html http://www.factorych...05064993AG.html For the price difference ($842 vs. $1270), I suppose the first one is the 4.3 and the second is the 8.4
  10. A little background: my car isn't exactly mine, it's a company car and I have to give it back when the 5 years lease expires, so, not only I cannot make any permanent modification, but I don't want to spend too much money on it (the last sentence would apply even if the car was mine ). Even with tinted windows, it's easy to see inside when you lower the third row of seats and use the space for luggage, so a cargo cover is a must. I made this one some months ago, at the time there was no original part, now there is one available as a FIAT accessory, but it costs 130€ and it's not much better than my "ghetto" version. Sometimes ago, I found in a dollar store "Ye Olde Jolly Rogers", and I thought it was the perfect size to make a cargo cover. Arrr! 1€ wouldn't break the bank so I bought it. It's really lightweight, so it's easy to fix to the car without too much trouble. For the side touching the second row of seats, I used some round adhesive velcro I had. It grips very well to the carpeting behind the seat, however I'll have to sew it to the flag since the adhesive will eventually detach. To fix it to the sides I used 4 paper-clips (two for each side) I "modified" them then I sewn a short length of elastic ribbon to the flag this way: The modified paper-clip goes in the small space between the window and the plastic panel To fix the flag to the rear of the cargo area, I used a couple of metal pieces I found at the office. I suppose you can make a similar one from some scrap metal: These attach to the white plastic of the pillar, beneath the rubber molding With the rubber molding in place And this is the final result It's ghetto but it's good enough considering that it cost me less than 3€. Avast, me proud beauty! Wanna know why my Roger is so Jolly?
  11. The TSB numbers here in Europe do not correspond to yours (in fact they won't even tell) , but I too had to perform an update for the same problem in february. The radio has worked since, but yesterday it didn't. This is shoddy QA at work.
  12. I just ordered a cheap 5" gps unit with av-in from China, I think it will take around a month to arrive. It should fit nicely below the 4.3" screen and, if it works right, I can add a backup camera to it later. The unit cost me $59 (it was $64 but I found a $5 coupon code), a wireless backup camera costs around $30-40. Less than $100 (and with more functionality) is a lot less than $1800. Not as nicely integrated but who cares? Besides, I prefer 2 (or more) screens instead of multiplexing everything on the same screen.
  13. In my case the pop/clunk was caused by the nuts of the front wheel hubs getting loose. They tightened them but that's not a proper solution, they have to be replaced (they're waiting for replacement parts). Other people reported that the nut is not of the proper strength and it loosen every 3000/4000 km (1800/2500 miles).
  14. I hope that is really the case, because the European adaptation of the uconnect system is really poorly made. Edit: and the updates released until now have only made things worse.
  15. The Fiat version is just like the Dodge one with a different powertrain. An user on an Italian forum has been told by the dealer than the option is only available on some models, without specifying which ones, but I think it's the same bs that dealers in the states are spewing. Keep in mind that DRL are compulsory in the EU, but only for vehicles type-approved since February 2011, so the Journey/Freemont can still be sold without them, however I think it's stupid to disable them if they're there.
  16. The hardware is always there or only in some models? I have a fiat freemont urban, which is halfway between sxt and crew, do you think it should have the necessary hardware?
  17. Same problem with a 4.3 and an usb memory stick (as reported here). The songs are tagged correctly since the title and artist name show OK when playing.
  18. Maybe there's space for a small laptop but without any accessory. Now I keep there the owner manuals and various car papers (since they don't fit in the glove box, never saw such a small glove box!) and there's barely space for anything more.
  19. Interesting, I though the 4.3 has no provision for external video. There are some interfaces (the UCI11C and some Chinese ones) but those intercept the cable connecting the radio to the screen (LVDS signal). If it's just a matter of knowing the pins and the can bus messages, it would be a nice find. That, or 2late4u is right and they will install another monitor for the camera.
  20. I like to use cruise control all the time (depending on traffic condition), so it must work reliably. It even helps me to comply with speed limits without bothering to check the speed on the dial. I mean, it would help me if it worked, as stated in the manual, starting from 40km/h (the speed limit on most of my daily commute), not from 42km/h. I don't like to smell the exhaust from the car in front of me, not even in winter Before the journey/freemont I had 2 cars with automatic lights. Both of them turned on the lights immediately when entering a tunnel. Probably because over there RDS isn't available? (and maybe that's the reason this feature wasn't tested thoroughly). Well, it was implied it was in the middle of a song. Again, probably related to RDS. If VLC and (gasp) windows media player can show the correct length, I think the uconnect should too. Maybe the problem only shows with many songs/artists (I have various hundreds of artist and around 1100 songs). Yes, you made sense, but in short, I was saying that display dimming shouldn't depend only on the headlights on. My previous car managed do to that, and while it wasn't perfect, it was much better. Anyway, this is a minor problem, the issues that really bother me are the recirculation, the cruise control and the names shortened to 3-4 letters.
  21. I've been the owner of a Fiat Freemont (the European name of the journey) with the Uconnect 4.3 for 5 months. After 2 software updates there are still many unsolved issues, ranging from mildly annoying to dangerous. I've contacted FIAT but it seems that FiatDoesntCare, so I hope that @DodgeCares will investigate these issues (and hoping that Chrysler is aware of them, working on them and sending the fixes to Europe :D) I think all of them are software bugs or bad design decisions (again, solvable via software) The cruise control buttons sometimes don't react. This can be dangerous when you're trying to slow down. The instruction manual says that the cruise control works starting from 40km/h, and you can restore the previous speed from 32 km/h with Res+. I'd like it to be true but it isn't, both things are only possible at 42km/h. I also found it annoying that, with so much screen real estate, there's no place to show the preset speed. OTOH air recirculation works as stated in the manual, but that's stupid, since it doesn't work with the airflow directed at the feet (which the systems sets automatically when it's heating). The manuals says it's to avoid window fogging, but that's not true (at least not every time), and even if it was, it should either let me decide or automatically rearrange the flow of air if I push the recirculation button (I'd prefer the former). Maybe I've been spoiled by all my previous cars that never ignored my will WRT recirculation. Now it's awkward and distracting, since I need 5 operations (push the button, see it doesn't work, push “climate”, push the on screen button to select the flow, select the “face and feet” flow, push again the recirculation button). Dangerous while driving. BTW: during the past winter I found heating to be very slow to heat in the morning (and I live in Spain, so not really chilly, the lowest temperature in the morning was -2C/28F) taking more than 10 minutes to start heating. Apparently the fuses and relays for the electric heaters are present in the fuse box, but there's no electric heater fitted and the engine is slow to heat-up. Automatic headlights take too much time (4-5 seconds) to turn on when entering a tunnel, making them useless. Radio station names are truncated to 3-4 characters. Please, use a smaller font (like the mp3 player) so the complete name will fit on screen (even a 20 years old cheap after market radio managed to show the complete name, so a $2000+ piece of equipment should manage it as well). The mp3 player sometimes stops for a fraction of a second. It's related to the RDS AF or TA function (with those disabled it doesn't skip, but I shouldn't have to disable them). Mp3 tracks played from the CD don't show the name of the artist (it just says “Unknown”). The same track on an usb memory stick shows the name of the artist (as did the CD before the first software upgrade). With some (but not all) mp3 file it shows 3 or 4 times the actual duration (e.g. on a 3 minutes file it show 12 minutes). Other media players (e.g. VLC) show the correct duration. I can send you a sample if you want to investigate the problem. The usb player is limited to 255 files per folder. Not really a problem but it should be documented (so one knows he has to split the files in many folders). “Search by artist” only shows a little amount of the artists actually present on the usb stick. Ditto for the “Search by song title”. Starting at about 90km/h, the speed shown on the EVIC and the one shown on the dial differ. E.g., while the EVIC shows 120km/h, the dial shows 124km/h. Another thing that I find annoying is the screen dimming with the headlights on, I think it should depend on ambient light (perhaps using the sensor in the rearview mirror), since sometimes you need to turn on the headlights during the day (or they'll turn on automatically in the evening when there's still plenty of ambient light) and dimming the screen makes it unreadable. I know that I can use the dimmer control, but I still think it could be done automatically. As you see, taken one by one they're not big issues (apart from the cruise control and the recirculation), however the sum of them is quite annoying (as it surely has been for you reading this until the end :P ).
  22. Hello, I'm the unhappy owner of a fiat freemont, which, as you probably know, is a rebadged dodge journey. I say unhappy because, after 5 months and two software updates, the many manysoftware problems this car has haven't been solved. I think I'll post about them in other sections of the forum, though most of them are already known, some of them have already been solved on the journey but the solution hasn't trickled down to fiat models.
  23. I think it's the other way round: coastal tech just rebadges and resell ventura's products: if you study the firmware updates available on coastal tech site, you'll they're actually made by ventura.
