  1. @Timon, you can lock the doors when you leave the car even with then engine running.
  2. No, it's not only you (less than a minute though), but I never had problems with the battery in 4 years (crossing fingers).
  3. Unrelated, but, per chance did you capture the codes from the buttons on the steering wheel? (in the eventuality that they're available on the same bus). I'm referring to the ones controlling the radio, not the speed control or the evic. My obdII adapter is too slow to do serious sniffing...
  4. Hey, you know the mantra: release early, release often, but, OK, I'll wait
  5. It could be just a matter of opening it completely (by pushing, or pulling I don't remember the retainers inside the glove box) and re-seating it. I opened it a million times and 90% of the times I have to open and re-seat it.
  6. As I said on the spanish forum, you have to set en-us as the first accepted language. Probably the same monkeys that managed the uconnect project are managing the web site
  7. I don't have this unit (I wouldn't spend this kind of money, Chinese or not, I'm quite satisfied with my low cost alternative, btw, I upgraded to a proper in car dvb-t receiver and I made a third and much better version of the bezel) but I read of several people who do. Some are satisfied, some say it doesn't work as it should. Keep in mind that it can only replace a 4.3 system (if you had an 8.4 this is not for you) and you should take a card from the original system and install it in this one (I repeat, I don't have the unit, this is just what I read).
  8. I don't use the radio anymore (it's too irritating) but I had the same problem and it was solved by a software update 1 year ago or so.
  9. Yes, my monitor is 4.3" (exactly the same size than the useless one above it), with the bezel it takes a few mm more on each side. You can try if it fits with a paper (or better cardboard) template. From a quick search on aliexpress a 3.5" monitor has more or less the same size as a 4.3" one, I couldn't find any 3.3"
  10. Here you can see where I put my monitor. The definitive version (no photo yet) it's much better than what you see in post #13.
  11. May I suggest to install a monitor behind the armrest? Note that in the meantime I installed a dvb-t receiver with a dual antenna (to improve tv reception), but for playing movies from an usb stick the home receiver I used in that post worked wonderfully.
  12. Wow, thank you. I just discovered that my car should include a "smoker's group", a "removable ash tray", a "cigar lighter" and "Adjustable Roof Rail Crossbars". Of course the dealer (or most probably the local fiat subsidiary) didn't include any of those. I'm not interested in the smoker's items, but the crossbars could be useful (and not exactly cheap over here). I guess it's too late to complain now.
  13. Both my previous cars (so going back 10 years), one Renault and one Citroen, had a rain sensor and both worked very well, in fact I was annoyed by the fact that the Journey/Freemont didn't have it. However, it didn't turn on the wipers automatically, it just controlled the speed.
  14. I don't have one but, yes, it maintains the original on screen controls. In fact it just switches between its own video signal and the uconnect one. An ingenious trick to avoid reverse engineering the original unit (it just keeps using it).
  15. It's under the dash, to the left of the steering wheel (edit: I meant column)
  16. There are models that replace one of the license plate lights and they're virtually invisible. When I bough mine there were none available yet, so I fabricated a replacement light myself:
  17. DRLs are mandatory in the EU for models that have been type approved after 2011. Since the fiat freemont got its type approval well before that date (when it was sold as dodge journey), they could get away without installing DRLs, even if it's a supposedly new model (it isn't). Now, I don't know it the DLRs as implemented in the journey/freemont (high beams at half power) would be street legal here, most probably they aren't (stupid EU rules) so that's maybe the reason the sale code isn't available. But, even if they don't comply with the regulations, they would be much safer than no light at all and more convenient than keeping the low beams on (since that also dims the dashboard illumination).
  18. Thank you for checking. I'd say the diesel engine gives you a very good, smooth, ride, though I've been driving diesels for the past 15 years so I'm used to them. Diesel engines are quite good nowadays and FIAT ones are the best in class. I have the 140Hp engine, some say that the 170Hp one (same volume, different software) is the minimum necessary to move this car, but I find 140 are more than enough for my driving style. There have been complaints about the clutch pedal being too hard, but I don't find it to be the case (and I come from a robotized 6 speed gearbox, so I was not used to using a clutch anymore). All in all I'm satisfied with both the engine and the gearbox. Now, the software......
  19. Make it 4, the 4th being a mix of the first two, like me: happy about the engine, spaciousness, sturdiness, driving position, comfort, etc., but totally pissed off with the software. Absolutely hate it, all of it .
  20. Just out of curiosity, would your European dealers also have the ability to add this sale code? A year or so ago I asked them and they said they wouldn't even try, for fear of messing up the system!
  21. FWIW, I had to replace the OEM tires at around 28000km (17398 miles). The brakes are still good after 40000km (crossing fingers), so I don't think it's my driving style.
  22. Note that If you have bluetooth you cannot replace the mirror, since the microphone is there.
