There is a reason the hoses are flexible in the first place.  If you put in a solid pipe, I think you'd discover failure far faster than in the cold conditions they keep blowing up in.

Only two payments left on my Journey now ... it'd be great if it manages to not blow another line before that happens.  LOL  Luckily it doesn't seem to mind +30 and higher nearly as much as -30 and lower.

Yeah, I don't think it was 25 minutes ... that included spreading anti-seize on the threads and adding some di-electric grease to the electrical connections.  EASIEST plug job I've ever done, and I used to think the old 1960s inline sixes were da bomb for plug changes.  Upgraded the old plugs to platinums, took her for a drive, shuddering problem is gone.  I'm going to have to check my service records, but I'm suspecting these were the original plugs.

ChrisPollard got a reaction from jkeaton in 2012 2.4L jerks in 4th going uphill
Had a meeting cancelled tonight, so had time to change the plugs.  Let the engine cool for about an hour and a half .. hood up, engine cover off.  It was still warm, but I could lay my hand on the engine for a good 30 seconds without getting hot.  I upgraded the old plugs from the stock V-groove copper to platinum, ($11/pair) took her for a drive, no more jerking on hills, nice smooth downshift when it needs extra power.

Makes me very happy to have this fixed so cheap - and before we do about 2,000 miles to kick off June with a little vacay and to bring our daughter home for the summer.    Makes me even happier that it was a $32 fix, including the anti-seize and di-electric grease.  w00t!  WAY better than the $3k I'm putting into a transmission rebuild for my old truck this week.

Picking up new plugs tomorrow after work.  Might not get to actually touch them until Thursday though ... committee and board meetings won't give me time to let the block cool down, and I'm told changing plugs in a hot aluminum block can go badly.  Last time I changed plugs in a car was a good old cast iron block ... and it didn't much matter back then.

I'm confused... Don't all Chrysler product use AFT+4 for their power steering fluid? I thought it was made from a group III base, meaning it is synthetic... Or, at least semi-synthetic. What "synthetic" fluid is being used as a replacement?

And as was pointed out, Subaru is the undisputed king of AWD. If AWD is what you want - or demand in a vehicle - they should be your first choice!
I'm curious to see how the stock Hankook's on my DJ handle this winter vs. the Tiger Paws on the Sebring I traded in. A/S vs A/S. Also curious how often I'll find myself turning off the traction control. Never having had it before, I'm not sure if I'll find it a hazardous distraction to my driving or not. But I'm sure my wife will like it.

That's just silly. "Oh #$!@" bars should be standard equipment on all vehicles. Especially on crossovers/SUVs/trucks/vans ... basically anything that isn't low to the ground, like a sedan/compact car. At the same time, I don't really miss them, as a driver.

Why is it always someone else's fault? I spilled my coffee in my lap and burned myself - it was McDonald's fault for making their coffee HOT! I was playing with a metal pool skimmer under a power line and electrocuted myself - it was the manufacturer's fault for not warning me the metal conducts electricity! I looked at a car with a 4.3" screen and found out later it should have been equipped with an 8.4" screen - the manufacturer lied to me and are b@$^$ for not changing it after I bought it!
There's just no personal accountability these days. You bought a 4.3, when they were available they came with an 8.4. But that is NOT what you purchased! But right, it's not your fault ... it's Chrysler's. Lying to you about the feature you saw and tested before you purchased. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
No, no, I'm not very sympathetic on this one. I also notice that you've had no comment on the items printed on your window sticker that several people have mentioned you should check. If there is no credit for the 8.4 delete, I'll retract my lack of sympathy.

ChrisPollard got a reaction from eddie046 in Is the 2.4L a good engine?
I own a 2012 CVP with the 2.4L and it's a fine engine. It's not going to move mountains, and if you're a lead footer, you'll be disappointed. If you're doing it for mileage, don't. The difference between the 2.4 and 3.6 is minimal at best. BUT if, like me, price point on the vehicle is a consideration, the 2.4L is FINE. Perfectly fine. It has no problems doing 80mph on the interstates, or zipping around town.
That said, if price isn't a factor, and you CAN move up to the Pentastar, I would. But I wouldn't lose sleep over taking home the 2.4 either. I love my Journey ... even with that "anemic" little 4 banger under the hood.

ChrisPollard got a reaction from nerner in TPMS warning will not turn off
Scary - I had the same thing on Monday night - left front tire. Stupid thing keeps going off every startup, even though all the pressures are the same. I'm having the same temperature problem as you ... it was -25 Monday night, today it's -6. Tomorrow is supposed to be about -14. Really hard to keep consistent pressures when the outside temperature is the variable affecting the TPMS readings! Too bad they couldn't put a temperature sensor in those things too - so it would self-adjust for outdoor conditions! Hmmm ... maybe I can patent that idea for a new generation of TPMS sensors....

I'd have run screaming from any dealership that refused me a test drive!! Heck, my dealership let me take the Journey overnight before we made our final decision. Hopefully you never deal with that dealership again - and have another one near you. Nothing says thanks for being a jerk like taking your NEXT new vehicle (most effective with the same brand) and stopping by to say you didn't get this commission/sale because you're dishonest. Also advantageous to make this point fairly noticeably when their showroom is full of potential sales.
Yes, I did this to a Ford salesman once who didn't even give us the courtesy of a callback to discuss options. Stopped by with my new car from somewhere else and said you really should have called me back. I may be 'a kid' (early 20's at the time), but I was quite serious about buying a new vehicle. See? Tainted my chances of visiting that dealership ever again, even though he hasn't been there for years now. Nothing stings commission sales like knowing they lost a sale ... because odds are no matter what happens years down the road, they'll never choose to speak with YOU again. Why people go into service jobs who don't care about service is beyond me.
Long rambling aside, sorry your dad got roped by a shady salesman ... glad he likes the R/T anyway!!

Called my dealer today, and they were already aware of the update - just haven't received the software yet. So once that comes in, they're going to flash the radio and re-program the remote start so it won't throw check engine lights on me. Can't wait for the blasties to be gone!!

Thanks to DodgeCares assistance the other day, I called my dealer back and spoke to someone different. And they now have the upgrade on order and should be here in 4 -5 days, but because of the holidays I don't figure before next week. They are suppose to give me a call when it's here.
Can't wait, hope this fixes the sound problem like it is suppose to.

    OK. My 2 cents. . .
I am not a real tech needy guy. I just started playing with the VR features of my 2011 R/T. I have the 8.4 Nav.
First , the VR for the phone works great. Second, It would be nice to have a "Navigate to. . . " command. I personally don't need any other VR features.
Given the above disclaimer, I am still really confused about the level of disappointment regarding VR control of music. To me, its sort of like needing to control your TV with VR rather than reaching for the remote. I do understand that there are times when searching for an artist on the touchscreen is dangerous, but one should ask themselves the question,
"Should I really be trying to change my music right at this time when my driving situation requires so much of my attention that I cannot even navigate the browse function on the screen safely?"
The other thing I can't understand is 2012 envy. Every single year, vehicles come with some upgrades. 2012 is no different. The functionality of the 2012 does not seem that much better.
For us 2011 drivers, this is the way I see it: Change your music on the screen when its safe. If you really need Nav, pull over, spend 1 minute entering your Nav data, and arrive safely without damaging your Journey or, God Forbid, harming your family as you rear-end a garbage truck.
I am not condoning false advertising nor mis-information in owner's manuals, but things are how they are.
Overall, I commend Chrysler for the 2011 Uconnect system as well as improving functionality for the 2012. IMHO, the 2011 Journey glass is not only 1/2 full, its 95/100 full.
    Peace.
