  1. So yeah, when I started driving down the road the screen disable but audio continued.   I'm kind of intrigued by that LockPick but tentative to drop $200+ on it not knowing how intensive the install in addition for how much would i actually use the DVD feature.  We just got a Pacifica so the DJ isn't our primary vehicle anymore.   Has anybody gotten the LockPick and recommend it?

  2. Holy crap, I've had our Journey Crew (2012) for almost 5 years and didn't realize the DVD actually plays in our front screen.  I was always under the assumption the DVD's just played audio over the speakers.  I just put it in drive to park in our garage and it kept playing, but I don't know if I'll run into issues if I get to a certain speed.  Obviously for me driving this isn't a big deal, but could be decent for my wife or even if I move/fold passenger seat it may be fun for the kid.  We'll try it out.

I wonder if I have capabilities to get a rear camera then.  I feel like I had this big U-Connect screen and sure would be nice to easily hook up a rear camera.

  3. I had the same issue 2 years ago with our 2012 Crew.  Our battery started turning up dead after sitting a few days.  We replaced the alternator, but didn't correct the issue; had it our shop for a week and didn't show anything.  The only item that was wrong was our Bluetooth stopped working.  We pulled the Bluetooth fuse and have not had an issue with the car starting since.  A local dealer was going to charge $600-650 to replace the module but I didn't want to drop that on something that wasn't a necessity.  I ended up finding a module for $225 online from a Mopar site.

I actually finally replaced the module yesterday.  It was a pain in the a** getting it out of the housing.  Taking the brake pedal off wasn't bad, but 1 of the 2 screws on the module is in an awful spot and took forever to blindly get it to bite.  In the end I was able to swap out the module, put the fuse back in, and my U-Connect is working again (yay).

However I now will hold my breath in the upcoming weeks that my car will start.  If it doesn't, the Bluetooth fuse will come out again.  If it does, then hopefully swapping out the Bluetooth module was the issue and we're good moving forward with no starting issues AND having U-Connect back.  I'll keep you posted.

Thank you all for your replies. Lots to go on there - very useful. Natefrog2 that fuse sounds particularly compelling given your experience versus mine. Can you recall was it fuse number 10?

Yes, it had a 10 on it which I think means 10 amp.  It was like the 3rd one down from the middle of the fuse box on the passenger/glove box area.

I actually finally replaced the Bluetooth module yesterday, what a b**** to get to.  I saved $350-400 doing it but it took a long time as 1 of the 2 screws was a pain point to reach even after taking out brake pedal and panel under steering wheel.  But I eventually got to it, replaced it, put my fuse back in, and my U-Connect is now working again.  Now the only hurdle is hopefully I don't start having battery drain issues again.  I'm hopeful the drain was related to the module that went bad and I replaced.

any luck on your water leak,i was just watching a journey repair video  and they were chasing down a wire shorting out problem on a 2012 and it ended up being a rear camera wire that had been improperly  installed on an aftermarket unit but while doing that he noticed water stains on the headliner like yours, he said the customer brought the journey back later and he fixed it and it was from where the antenna was mounted on the top rear but in this case someone had mounted one of thoes shark antenna and didnt get it sealed correctly, also he pointed out that there is a electrical unit or small box that also was getting wet,so you might want to recheck and make sure that is not where your leak is ,i know you said you check it but that is the most likely place,of course it could be the roof rails spots as well. good luck and please report back on what ever you found to be the problem

We did seal the antenna on the roof as it did appear that was a potential spot, but it still was wet after a night in the rain.  I have not tracked it down yet, but my gut is the roof rail or weather-stripping along the sides.  I need to figure out or find a video on how to remove the roof rails.  I haven't found one yet and don't want to start ripping stuff off without knowing what I'm doing.  Once I get the roof rails off, I'll see if I see evidence of water (e.g. rusty screws, etc) and check back in.

And if anybody knows how to get the roof rails off or has a video, let me know.  Thanks!

Hi, I've had a 2010 DJ from new, regularly serviced only done 88k miles. About 18 months ago began to get starting problems so changed out battery. Problems did not go away. Car would drain rapidly ie overnight and be utterly dead. No dash lights or anything. Jump start it and it would be fine for a couple of weeks then die again. Tried to get battery replaced under warranty but they refused saying battery tested fine and car was underused.

was convinced it was a battery issue so replaced again and guess what- no joy. My mechanic is baffled. He is wondering if our house alarm is somehow interfering with the car- he has seen this before. We did get an alarm around the time this all kicked off but it has died away from the house. Was driving  around one day. Stopped to put gas in. Got back in car, completely dead. It's like some stole the battery! I miss my big dodge, nothing like it in uk. Please can anyone offer ideas?

Had a similar issue and mine appears to be tied to the Bluetooth Module.  My timeline was along these lines...

Fall 2017: Bluetooth U-Connect Stopped Working

March 2018: Slow turn but car started, check engine light comes on.  Battery was new so it was determined alternator was fried (70K Miles)

April 2018: Car dead.  Jumped started and check engine light goes back to battery again.  At this point it became a guessing game.  They replaced the battery under warranty.

May 2018: Didn't use car for 2 days and was completely dead.  Charged battery, took to garage for a week, and nothing was found.  Bluetooth fuse (found in manual) was removed.

Mid-July 2018: Took vehicle to a Dodge dealership for a quote on the Bluetooth, they reinserted a fuse, and UConnect briefly worked.  However UConnect was not working by the time I got home and they quoted me $650 to replace BT module.  I passed but left the fuse in.

Late-July 2018: Vehicle was cranking slow again.  At this point I was strongly feeling the BT module was the issue, so I removed the fuse.

As of today (2 years later) I have not had a dead battery and really no issues at all other than maybe 1-2x the radio clock reset overnight.

Based on everything above it seems like the issue is tied to a bad Bluetooth module or at the very least the radio.  I did buy a new Bluetooth Module a year or so back, but I have yet to install it.  Part of it is b/c I'm afraid the car will stop starting again, but it is also in a really rough spot.  I just didn't want to drop $600 to fix at dealership (I got the module for $225).  Good luck, it is a super frustrating issues especially since the Journey (ours is 2012 Crew) is a pretty nice vehicle that we like.

water leaks are a bitch to trace down they usually are from a place you wouldn't think it could be from, since its all the way across the top back side i would say it has to be comiing  in from the front and draining backwards, check your rails on top where it attaches to the roof unless you have a sun roof which i assume you dont have,,,good luck on fining your problem

Thanks! Roof rails is kind of what I'm leaning.  Our Journey "does" have a sun roof as well.

is your rear window squiters working,

Yes, it is working.  It seems to get wet when I have to park it outside and it rains.   I dont feel it occurs if it is raining and I'm driving.

  9.  I was curious if anyone has had any issues with rain (or water) leaking to the interior headliner (specifically in the back) of their Journey? If so, any possible solutions?

I sealed around the antenna and that was not it.  It happens when the car sits outside not so much when it is raining while driving.

Any ideas or tips are appreciated.

  10. Bumping an old one but having some similar issues with right reverse light and rear wiper.

Reverse light went out in March, but then came back on like a week later.  Figured it was the bulb, replaced it, but still worked intermittingly and now doesn't at all.

Reverse wiper started acting up a few months ago where when you turned them off it would stop right where it was vs. going back down.  This past weekend the wiper didn't do anything when turned on.

I'm not sure if the issues are tied to another or not...? I'm not super confident when it comes to wiring.  I was going to try a new socket for the light, but the one I order from NAPA was the wrong size (even though said it was for 2012 Dodge Journey Crew).  If that is not it, I assume that is a wiring issue.

    Any suggestions?

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but we have the same yr/model journey with the same issue with our bluetooth.  Which fuse did you pull?  I dont see one on the diagram specifically for bluetooth.

    Thank you!

I dont have the exact fuse # handy but I know it was in the panel by glove box and was labeled bluetooth in the manual.  To this point I have not had dead battery issues when this fuse is out (over 1 year).  So I'm guessing a bad bluetooth module is causing the issue.  I bought a new BT module but haven't installed it yet.  Dealer wanted 600 to replace it but I found part for 250 online.  I'm just nervous that issues may arise again if i replace it...

After seeing a few videos on the subject another question comes up which tranny do I have?  My 2014 Journey is AWD and I'm not sure it's the same as the FWD models, is the 62TE used in my car? Something or else? Then again there is the transfer case and driveline to consider.

When I looked up Dodge Journey on wikipedia my takeaway was the 3.5-3.6L engine's have a 62TE transmission and the 2.4-2.7L have the 41TE transmission.  Also notes that the 62TE transmission often runs into issues when you don't use Chrysler's own transmission fluid.  Take all of this for what it is worth as I know wikipedia isn't the end all/be all.

I have a 2012 Crew with 84,000 miles and yeah I'm nervous to ride it out until 120,000 per my service manual.  I bought it used at 45,000 miles and assume the dealer didn't replace the fluid at that point.

But I can certainly see Steve's frustration with following the service guide and then running into issues at 77K miles.  I also have a Ford Fusion and the manual has to replace the fluid every 30K which seems excessive the opposite way.

And I assume when I replace my fluid (not flush), I would want to request the filter to be changed too...?

search you tube took about 10 seconds for me to find this hope it helps you......Replacing Bluetooth module on Dodge Journey

I did find some videos and doesn't seem too too bad.  I always hate taking apart panels, etc in fear they may not go back together as well, but I bought the module and need to install it at some point.  Essentially looks like you take off the panel below the steering wheel, unscrew old module, plug cords into new one, attach new module, and attach panels back on.

    My only (2) concerns are...

    1. Will I jack up anything with the air bags when I remove the dash panel? I believe there is a knee air bag below the steering wheel.

    2. I'd hate to swap out the bluetooth module and then find out I needed to install an update or anything.  My understanding is as long as the UCONNECT is up to date, which I should be able to check online, I should be fine.

  14. I'm wondering if your bluetooth module is shot.  Ours died, also a 2012 Dodge Journey, and it led (I think) to other battery issues.  2 new batteries and an alternator later, we removed the bluetooth fuse and I haven't had a re-occurring dead battery since May 2018.  Although I did recently have the clock reset to 12:00 so may be something else going on...

Anyway, dealer quoted me at $650 this past summer to replace the bluetooth module.  I declined and just bought the module for $250 from a Mopar parts dealer.  I have yet to swap it out though.  I should probably do that soon...

It is not your battery , I replaced it 2 times and still had issues starting it a few days later. You need to do the parasitic draw test to see what is draining your battery.  Mine just happened to be the radio.

Did you ever receive a quote on a radio replacement? I think that is my issue too.   I had no issues after removing Bluetooth fuse but lately feel like it's turning over slower in morning.  I think it may be the radio on mine as well.

  16. We have a 2012 Dodge Journey Crew AWD and this year starting having issues too.  I feel like we had it pinpointed to the bluetooth system, but just today the clock reset when we started the car, so I'm nervous again that we're going to have a dead Journey one morning again.  Anyway, here is my time line...

January 2016: Bought vehicle used at 47,000 miles.

August 2017: Bluetooth system stopped working properly.

December 2017: Replaced original battery.  Car did not start after cold night outside.  CCA (Cold Cramp Amps) was low.

March 2018: Car started slow and check engine light came on.  Determination was alternator was shot.  Seemed early (70,000~ miles), but made sense I guess.

April 2018: Car did not start, same check engine light diagnosis.  Battery was replaced under warranty, but at this point seemed like something else was in play.

May 2018: Almost exactly a month later, car did not start again.  Took car to our reputable auto shop and they had it the full week without being able to determine an issue.  Only 1 time during the week did they notice a large draw and by the time they started pulling fuse, the draw was done.  They did however pull out the bluetooth fuse.

July 2018: Radio speaker did not work.  Pulled radio and amp fuse for 5 minutes, put back in, and speaker worked.  This occured again in September.

July 2018: Bluetooth fuse was put back in and car started slow on mornings.  Removed bluetooth fuse and have not had a dead battery since.

Today (12-16-18): Radio clock was 12:00 when we started the car.  Car started fine.

I thought we had it pinpointed since had no issues since July after bluetooth fuse was removed.  But today with the clock reset, I'm worried we may not...

Any feedback on a similar issue is appreciated.
