A 3 Journey family + 1 more .. A 2017 model

OK so where the "stable" contains right now. My son has the '11 mainstreet

The wife has the well appointed '13 RT(lacks 3rd row and backup camera)

I currently have the '13 4 cyl. SXT

  Here is the possible action

My friend acquired a 2017 Crossroad that does not seem to be getting any attention and was joking of me getting it.

It is a 3.6 FWD with only HFM/bluetooth,big screen audio, auto temp & lights, backup sensors and backup camera and 3rd row seating(something we NEED).

It's got 182k miles but it's been detailed and NO RUSTING as it came from Southern Pa., Nice metallic deep blue in color.

BUT wife laments lack of heated seats/steering wheel and not the alpine stereo, but likes 3rd row and backup camera.

It also lacks a trailer hitch...something easily added.

NOW the '13 SXT is seriously thinking of being bought back by my sister and brother in law for my niece (who had been sharing use of it with my sister) when she gets home from college this late spring. So there is a good down payment. amount to go for this '17.

As I found with the '13 FWD SXT, I have my "concerns" with winter driving this big motor crossroad FWD, so I ask for opinions from the 3.6 FWD members that are in SNOW COUNTRY what they think and do for their DJ's in winter.

AND if you all think that I'm ABSOLUTELY INSANE to go after ANOTHER DJ.  Even if the "price is right"!

well I don't live in snow country but as far as a big engine shouldn't be a problem.... and as for buying another journey I believe you are aware of mostly what can go wrong and also able to repair such things so I consider that an advantage or a plus

Yes, you're right about my having AMPLE experience with these vehicles, I guess that I'm just getting a bit underwhelmed by not being able to find one(they're all USED now) with all the "toys" even with such a newer year. AND "adding on" would be more work than I'd care to do on my own. The DJ is a nice comfortable vehicle, and tows  my 4x8 light trailer well except for when loaded for my firewood(don't even attempt that). And I guess that's MY pondering point for getting another vehicle, as I deep down may be wishing for something like a Durango...BUT those seem to be scarce or mechanically shot/rusted bad around me.

Could never do without a heated wheel or seats again...fabulous feature here in the tundra

Durango like my Grand Cherokee is a tank...

Yes a feature that's hard to give up once having a car with them, and most of the conundrum about pursuing this '17. This would be the "newest" model year car we've had and best overall body condition.

The wife still prefers the AWD ones, even though she would still have the RT AWD.

My wife is also a big awd fan, and heated steering wheel/seats. And lady lead foot, so the 3.6 engine power...but avoids tickets so I can't say much.

You have the skills to diagnose and the mechanic connections for really big jobs needing a hoist.  Southern vehicles are so much better to work in as well.

Get it on a set of ramps when it warms up a bit; fastest way to quickly evaluate I think.

Could compromise and add on to winter driveability; remote start is simplest upgrade. Other items are just to much work/$'s.

Problem with Durango is the 3.6 engine is the one to own used, maybe high milage. Between hemi tic cams from mds design and exhaust manifold studs breaking; and very tight engine compartment, 5.7 Durango is not something I would want to own.  But the 3.6 would struggle with the bigger body to drag around. Adding to the journey fleet makes more sense imo. Cars have become crazy expensive, so I get closely analyzing this kind of decision.

Fuel seems to be dropping rapidly so upgrading to 3.6 won't add up to much, vehicle probability even has the aluminum oil cooler by now.

I agree about the concerns of the 5.7 Durangos, and why I posted as such about "mechanically shot" . My friend has a number of customers with them and they are lots of engine/drivetrain work along with lots of rust thanks to NY salt and driver abuse. But around here I also have concerns about even the bigger Jeeps(not to mention the higher prices for them around here).

Actually I need to get the wife to take a look at it for her final approval, as my plan is for her to keep hers as a winter car and this '17 for her summer car(except when I need to tow my trailer(hook up would be sooo much easier with the back up camera it has.
