Timing belt??

I got a 2010 Dodge Journey with the 3.5L V6. It currently has 177k miles. My question is, can you tell when the timing belt is failing? Are there any warning signs? I’m unsure if the belt has been replaced before. But there’s been a weird noise when accelerating and it’s coming from the side where timing belt is. It still drives and accelerates just fine. I’d just hate to go spend the money to have the timing belt replaced and come to find out it never needed one. Thanks for any information!!
