Has anyone had this problem with their Alpine system?

I recently bought a used 2016 Dodge Journey Crossroad with the 8.4N Alpine sound system (368Watts).  I noticed right away that something was wrong with the sound quality.  The overall sound was "muddy", the bass was pathetic, but worst of all,  it was too "bright" (too much treble).  I set the MID and TREBLE to the lowest setting but the sound was still too bright - painfully so.  And this is from mp3 files from SD and USB but also store bought cd's and SIRIUS XM.

 

I also noticed that the Speed Sensitive Setting did not work at all.

 

After reading the posts on this site and other mopar sites, I replaced all door speakers with JBL GX 962 6X9's (making sure they were 2ohms).  The sound quality greatly improved!  It was clear, not muddy and the bass was better.  But it was still way too bright (high pitch).  I also updated the Radio and Navigation software and went to my Chrysler dealer to have the system checked.  They said everything was fine and up to date.  (I also emailed Uconnect and they said to go to the dealer).  Meanwhile, when I go on family road trips, my family also can't handle the high pitch sound for too long.

 

My previous vehicle was also a Dodge Journey; a 2009 with the 368Watt INFINITY sound system.  With no modifications, the sound was Amazing during the 11 years that I owned the car.  I had the BASS at -4 which was more than enough for today's music, the MID was at 0 and the TREBLE was at +8.

 

What I'm trying to figure out is:  is this high pitch sound normal for a Mopar Alpine system or is there a defect somewhere?  I've read posts where people had a similar problem that got fixed with a software update (I updated mine - to no effect).  And other posts where people had their Alpine amplifiers replaced at the dealer - under warrantee.  One post mentioned a common problem called a "FIRMWARE ERROR" (my dealer never heard of this); and another post mentioned that Alpine amplifiers in Journey's are known to "LOCK UP" a lot. 

 

I'd be okay with buying an OEM Alpine amplifier if I was 100% sure it would solve this problem as it costs about $300 with no possibility of a refund.  An aftermarket car audio shop told me it would cost about $800 to get rid of the high pitch sound.

 

So, has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do about it?

if we don’t have the issue what do you want us to do, make stuff up?  Tell the OP to buy a new amp for $800 and have it not fit the issue?  I’ve also noticed the OP hasn’t been back so either they fixed it or are living with it.

Isn’t the amp easy to access, like under one of the seats. Maybe you could try swapping units for 5 mins with Journey owner. My 2014 alpine system works well, very happy with the sound quality. I’m too far away, and border still closed for now for non business travel.

 

Maybe  car recycler for a used one if you can prove it’s the issue. I had wrecker let me test vehicle module in parking lot one time to confirm an issue. I was a regular customer which probably helped.
