  1. Like someone else had offered, take it off, drive it around for a while, if it drives better, or you get better mpg's keep it off. Otherwise put it back on. Personally, I don't think this will help any. Today, MPG means more than HP, and chrysler wouldn't have put a little noise suppression at the expense of even 1 MPG.
  2. It's probably NOT the fuse. When they were working on the radio, they probably unplugged the lighter plug, and didn't plug it back in.
  3. What I mean by Chinese copies is, no name brand units sold in eBay. They don't try to sell it as an OEM, but as an aftermarket radio that kind of look it the OEM radio. I got my parts from online wreckers. Car-parts.com.
  4. Stainless on the exterior is kind of high maintenance. On top of being dent prone. Plastic on the rear bumper as a protector works better.
  5. I would think that shocks are part of the bumper to bumper warranty. Call another dealer nearby and ask.
  6. Take it to the dealer. The cable on back of radio is prolly loose. You don't want to mess with that if ur still under warranty.
  7. You need an obd2 can-bus scanner. Simple to use. I can believe that a dealer plays the ignorance card. I had one that refused to do anything unless the problem happened with them. (3.6 bad head) even though they had the codes. The first few times, they said that the code had cleared itself and can't do anything. Then I found out from the next dealer that even when the light clears itself (4 driving cycles) the code is still in memory. So yeah, try another dealer.
  8. You won't need winter tires are anywhere south of central NY. I know it's winter but winter tires are for the snow, and we don't have any around here. Besides, when if snows southern of NY, it's like an inch or 2. You have better things to worry about. Like black ice, and fatigue while driving. I drive on all season Michelin's year round. Never felt the need for winter tires, and I live in Westchester, NY
  9. Find out what the code is.. When was it built? Early 3.6s had engine valve head issues.
  10. When/where did this happen?
  11. I think you guys have AWD issues. Last couple of snow falls we've had, I porpously make the rears kick in to do a bit of a slide. Not once did the AWD serv light came on. What's the point if a AWD system that shuts off when the front tires spin. That's THE time it should be coming on!
  12. The disc changer? That's the actual radio. It's mounted behind the hvac controls. The screen above is just a screen. Anyways.. Pry open the grey plastic peices running across the dash, there 2 screws behind, Then pry the hvac control from beneath, pops open, the radio is that big box there. If you remove the screen bezel, you'll get more access. Again 2 screws at the base of the bezel which u can see after you remove the hvac control. Screen bezel pulls fwd towards u. Limited cable clearance, BE CAREFUL!
  13. No you don't. As long as you have atleast 2 working key fobs, you can program it yourself. They usually send instructions on how to do it. Just make sure the seller on eBay sends them.
  14. Search under the infotainment section. We've cover the topic well. Yes- doable No- not difficult No - not expensive to use OEM parts Yes- be aware of china copy units, lots of features? But iffy operation Yes- I did it, no problems to report.
  15. There's no amp in the 4.3 radio. I'm guessing the best place would be right at the radio connector.
  16. Adding to the topic.. This morning, the weather was at 5' F, the van started roughly, the interior squeaks, and the back up camera is in black and white. Lol. Fixed itself after a while. The cold messes things up, specially when it goes from warm to very cold relatively fast.
  17. Oh screw that dealer!!! When. I read that they charged YOU to reset the CEL.. I said out loud "ohh f#%^* that! I can see them charging if there was no issue at all. But the light came on. OBVIOUSLY! There was a problem with the car. AWD does work in reverse. Mine does. Whatever you do, don't go back to that dealer.
  18. I live in lower NY. Westchester. We had what I would consider a moderate snow fall last week. There was tons of media coverage of a "huge" snow storm. I went to work on Friday with my FWD caravan. No problem. The caravan just has issues when it's s steep hill and no momentum. I usually test the roads on driving in by hitting the brakes hard and seeing what kind if grip I have. This helps me decide how fast I should drive. I make sure the boast is cleAr of course. Now on Friday night, I took my wife's car (DJ) to run some errands, came to a stop midway on a downhill not expecting any "abnormalities", lightly stepped on the brakes, and the car acted weirdly. The ABS kicked in HARD. I found that really strange it's not a steep hill, and I didn't see any ice over the road. I had driven on it just a few hours earlier on my van. My wife is always telling me that her car slides a lot when she brakes. I've always told her that its the ABS working because maybe the rd is slippery. But now I'm a little concerned cause the DJ is ABS happy at times. I see what she's talking about now. Is this what everyone is talking about? Btw, 2012, it'll be 2yrs old in may, 10.3k miles on original khumos.
  19. My wife was shopping a week b4 Xmas, left the kids waiting in the car with the radio on for I guess about 1.5 hours. When she came came back, she got the "key not detected" error on screen. She tried putting the key right next to the button. I had to drive out to her and try my key, but by the time I got there, she noticed that when she tried, the lights dimmed a lot. (The sonata she previously had, had battery issues for a whole winter, so she knows when a battery is dead) Anyways, she got someone to boost the DJ, and the car stated right up. When she turned the engine off, she didn't turn the lights off. Battery drained itself. My point is.. It really threw us off the fact that "key not detected) kept showing up. Why would this message come up instead of maybe.. "Battery not detected". Lol.
  20. Not surprising. Electronics, specially screens have a working temperature range. Maybe -32 is under that range. Idk.. First time it's hsppened? If not, how has it behaved on prior days when the temp has been that cold?
  21. If you mean the radio screen.. There's an option setting in the menu that determines how long the radio (retained power) stays on after engine shut down. But like someone said, it cancels itself out and shuts (should) turn everything off, once you open one of the front doors. If you mean, the small info screen in the dash, that shuts off by itself after a minute or 2, or when you remote lock the doors.
  22. I don't know of any OEM nav that does red light cam warnings. I know most new portable GPSs do. Even free phone apps do. Try downloading an app called WAZE. It's a navigation app built community reports. It warns of hidden cops, traffic, accidents etc.. It's what I use when I have to use a GPS.
  23. I don't have a nav 8.4 but I've never seen anything or heard anything that suggest the nav on the DJ supports speed trap/red light camera warning. It DOES support traffic alerts though.
  24. You should order yourself a new FOB and program it yourself while you still can. Seems to me like your current FOB is coming loose/apart somewhere. Or maybe your battery is loose.
  25. It's normal. The DJ uses the heater core upfront yo warm up the rear vents. Longer distance, different routing.. Not really sure, but it is normal. Correction.. It's normal IN THIS CAR. The grand caravan has an auxiliary heater in the rear, snd it warms up like a champ.
