  1. Excellent ... thanks for the input ..... I have brighter LED style ones I want to put in rather than the yellowish OEM's ..... I'm sure the dealer will be happy when I also bring this up .... so far it looks like theyre replacing the radio unit all together as my center stack keeps flickering/flashing and the radio just keeps restarting itself over and over again .... ... oh the joys of a DJ lol

  3. So I've noticed in the last few months, moisture in the drivers side fog light housing ... not a lot, but enough to be noticed by me, I've had that fog light bulb out for awhile now (drove me NUTS) so I've ordered and received new ones (ebay specials). While pulling everything apart tonight to install them, I happened to notice that i no longer have moisture but a full on puddle in the bottom of my fog light housing ... the level of water can be seen up the glass -- I imagine this might be what caused the bulb to go out. The DJ goes into the shop in the morning for some random electrical issues ....... again ....... so I plan on bringing this up as well. I've kept the OEM bulbs in the housings until this water issue is resolved ..... Is this a warranty issue? -- I would imagine so being a 2012 with 52,000kms .... water shouldnt be in the light housings.
  4. Im having an issue with my AWD .... in the snow and ice storm we've been having in ontario my AWD has been USELESS !!! .... Everytime my front wheels slip, so the trac light comes on - ie: acceleration away from a light - the dash board will *DING* and "Service All Wheel Drive" comes on ..... than i have no AWD .... and these things are useless without it. So I have to pull into a lot .... shut off the truck .... open the door and close it .... lock it with the key fob.... sit like a fool for 5 mins ... unlock with the keyfob, open the door ... close it ... than restart it and everythings great ........................................... until the front wheels slip again and it happens all over again ....... had it at the dealer and they said it had the wrong VIN programmed .. ?? ... it was programmed as a CVP with the smaller rims, VS my R/T with the 19's .... its still doing the same thing .... UGH
  5. Well the brake saga continues on my 2012 R/T ... This past weekend we were out in the Journey, and I had noticed over the last few weeks that when coming to a stop the brakes would give a "grabbing" "wet rotor" sound just before the wheels stop turning. On Saturday it suddenly started doing it when coming to a stop ... the sound was just crazy .... so we went directly to the dealership in town and a mechanic came out for a drive ..... right away he knew the problem and said the brakes are out of adjustment so I'll need a service right away. I showed him the service reports from 14,000kms ago when i had the brake service completed ... THAN from 12,000kms ago when i had to get compete front brake pads and rotors as mine were totally shot - this was through a "Goodwill gesture" from the dealership - The mechanic advised me to go right back to that dealership as something is not right. Took it in today for the oil change as well as the brake problems (and the center dash going on and off by itself) ... right away they said the brake sounds are "normal" and even if they do need servicing, it wouldnt be covered because there is "NO WARRANTY" on the brakes at all because they were a "Goodwill Gesture" ------- he actually said, they do NOT warranty any parts or servicing done through a goodwill gesture --- wtf?! --- So alas, I left, feeling burned yet again -- plus the fact that they took over 2.5 hours to do an oilchange and couldnt duplicate anything else. --- Didnt someone say something about a class action suit being tossed around from the Journey/Caravan owners? .... this is just insane!
  6. quick question regarding the TPMS on my '12 R/T. Wanting to put on winters asap, also have TPMS .... the dealer wants $114 each for the sensors plus a fee to program them to the DJ. If I don't want the sensors for the winter tires, is the only issue Im going to have is the orange light on all winter? (I can deal with that) Im being told that if I DONT get the sensors installed from the dealer, than not only will I not have monitoring of airpressure ... but also my Traction Control, Anti-Roll and possibly my AWD will be inoperable as well .... basically I will have a Christmas tree of lights on the dash and no safety assistance. Is this just a scare tactic to get me to pay up? or is it true? -- I have a tough time believing what these service advisors tend to tell me as they are constantly trying to upsell me every single time im in there.
  7. Quick odd question. When I fill up my '12 R/T , everytime it reads back a different DTE ... sometimes it will read 690kms to Empty ... next fill up, 510kms to Empty so on and so on ..... the latest one yesterday, the read back was 410kms to Empty !!! ...... huh? what am I missing here? ... I always get gas from the same station, I always allow the tank to go down to about 80-90kms to Empty before filling (unless going on a long trip) ...... nothing in my routine has changed and it always costs relatively the same to fill Does anyone else have this? or have any ideas why the read out is always different? ... btw, the read out, whatever it is when I fill, IS accurate!! .... my second last tank I only did get roughly 480kms out of it averaging 10.9 - 11.5 (95% highway driving with cruise) --- this is getting costly ! lol
  8. I just need to RANT! .... sorry its alil long .... I live in S.W Ontario, St.Thomas to be exact. This past weekend our area was hit hard by a winter storm with snow squalls off the lake - 70cm+ !! I work nights in Nursing in London which is approx. 20mins to the north. Getting to work Saturday night took me over 90mins as the roads were pretty bad. The drive home was more or less the same but as long as I kept my speed way down and drove according to the conditions I was totally fine. About 5 mins from home, I was travelling a 2 lane highway, the on coming lane had been plowed and about 1/2 of my lane, therefore I was driving with half my DJ on the plowed lane, and the passenger side through the snow. Traffic was very light being 8am on a Sunday morning however an on coming car failed to move over to the right alittle bit to share the lane so I had to slowly inch the Journey closer and closer to the unplowed part of the road when the inevitable happened and the snow drift just grabbed the wheels and pulled me into a fairly deep snow drift that unfortunately the AWD could not get me out of. -- I was NOT off the road, if the snow wasn't there, I would've been half on the wide shoulder and half in the travel lane ... but I was stuck and that was that. After I cleaned out my pants, I got out to assess if there was any damage and luckily there was none - very soft fluffy snow - and you could easily see my path of travel behind me ... but I was still stuck. I quickly grabbed my handy "Dodge Roadside Assistance" card and dialed the number. The lady who picked up the phone was BEYOND rude!!! ..... she asked me the normal questions (very curt) - name, address, VIN# etc and confirmed I did infact have Roadside available. I explained my situation and that I just needed a quick pull out -- literally I just had to be pulled about 10 ft backwards on flat road, no problem -- Here is our conversation: (which btw sounded like she was talking on a 1984 speaker phone as I could hardly hear her) Her: So HOW exactly did you get "in" the ditch? Me: Im not IN the ditch, Im actually ON the road, just stuck in a deep drift is all. Her: Was the road plowed? Me: About 2/3 of the road has been plowed, but almost 1/2 of mine had not. Her: So you CHOSE to drive on an UNplowed highway?? Me: It's been plowed, just not fully ... we've had a pretty major storm so they're trying to get the roads cleared. Her: Sir, has the highway been plowed!? Me: Like I said, more than 1/2 has but my wheels got pulled in from a deep snow drift. Her: but you just told me your lane had NOT been plowed .... so which is it sir? has the road been plowed or not?!?! (here Im trying to remain pleasant and courteous as I understand it's hard for her to picture I imagine what I mean) Me: It's been plowed ... just not fully yet. Her: So like I said, you CHOSE to drive down an unplowed road therefore you will be CHARGED for the tow as this is YOUR FAULT. Me: Excuse me? ... we had a MAJOR storm, most roads are NOT plowed fully at all as its 8am.... (She cut me off mid sentence ...) Her: You have admitted the road has not been plowed therefore it was your decision to drive down it and your fault you are now stuck, I will dispatch a tow truck to your location however you WILL be charged whatever their fee is for a removal. Me: You're kidding right? ... what kind of "Roadside" has loopholes like this? because Im stuck in snow, I have to pay for a tow truck....... (Again cut off mid sentence ...) Her: Sir, do you want me to dispatch a truck to your location or not ?!?!!!! Me: Do you know how much the pull out charge would be? Her: I do not, whatever that company charges you ... also you are responsible for any damages that happen due to being towed out. Me: I have Roadside through my insurance company who Im sure will have no problem providing their customer with the emergency assistance they need. Her: That's fine ... thank you for calling Dodge Roadside Assistance ... have a great day ... *click* I than called my insurance companies Roadside Assistance and couldn't believe the difference ... first question was, ARE YOU OKAY? ... Are you alone? ... Do you have enough gas to keep the vehicle warm? --- There was absolutely no problem with her dispatching a tow truck, she was VERY apologetic that the timeframe was 4-5 hours as they were very busy but I was okay with that. --- She than called me every 30 mins to check on me and give me an update time wise. I couldn't believe the difference, I wish I wrote down that Dodge ladies name as I would forsure be filing a complaint against her ... her attitude, her flat tone, her lack of customer service and her flat out blaming me was just totally uncalled for ! ...... Once the tow truck showed up, it took all of 3 mins to hook up the winch line and pull me backwards ... the driver said it was his easiest removal so far that day. Ugh ! .... I just was and am so pi$$ed about this .... what is the point of having the peace of mind of having Roadside Assistance if when you go to use it you are berated, talked down too and than pretty much told the best she will do is call a tow truck ??? .... lady I can call a damn tow truck! ....... Sorry its so long .... I just really needed to rant and vent
  9. Why not? If anything it will improve and protect better than the flimsy paper filters. There is also a note that came in the box saying to keep it in the glovebox incase any dealer wants to dispute the use of the K&N than they can call that number ... lol ... I asked my neighborhood Chrylser dealer about it and they said its not a problem at all. Silly tube/clamp thingy?? ... ummmm no ... lol ... didnt notice one.
  10. So Im curious if any other DJ owners have heard this ? The first time I heard it was in the Spring, at very low speeds, I have a creaking in my back end. I was due for an oil change anyways so I brought it up at that point for the stealership to look into .... they of course "couldnt reproduce" ... whatever ... thats fine, I didnt really hear it anymore anyways. Until now. While backing out of my driveway the other night on the way to work, I happened to have the radio off and while backing down the driveway, I could hear the same creaking sound, only much louder now. I've made it a point to listen for it now at all speeds and road conditions and have determined I can ONLY hear it at very low speeds and primarily when backing out of my driveway (probably because the driveway isnt totally smooth and I cross over the sidewalk before the road) My little brother is now the "proud" owner of our old family van, a 2002 Gr.Caravan ... it is in rough shape with dents, rust and 240,000kms from the many family holidays (plus my num-nut father jackknifing the trailer ... more than once ... into the side of it) -- ANYWAYS ... His van has the same creak, only a hell of alot louder ... which was embarassing to say the least when he was in the DJ the other day and heard it and said "hey! we have the SAME creak!" ... not cool. So its a 2012 DJ R/T with 47,000kms on her now ....... any idea what could be making it creak? I plan on taking it to the dealer nextweek sometime for this and I'd like to be informed as to if anyone else has experianced the same and what was the result. Thanks in advance folks !
  11. funny you say that ..... Our plan is to trade in the R/T for a Sorento SX next fall. Have to pay this Journey down abit more. The Sorento has more power, more towing power, better styling IMO .. the interiors are alittle "2002" .... but im hoping they change that for the 2015 models ... better bang for your buck I think. We had a 2010 Soul 4U Retro, absolutely LOVED it .... drove it to 99,500kms than traded it in on the Hybrid ...... KIA has been nothing but awesome to us, they've really really up'ed their game since the 90's early 2000's.
  12. I've put in a K&N airfliter into my 2012 R/T .... right away I could notice a power difference, and as time goes on it just seems more and more powerful ... a lot more get up and go (been in there for about a month now) however ..... not sure if this is normal or not but Ive noticed on accelerating with alittle passion that I have kind of a deep whine ... if that makes sense. The only way I can describe it to myself is its the same noise my 92 Taurus used to make in highschool when the engine was dieing and the trans was pretty much shot ..... it sounds pretty okay .... sounds like a lot of the noise is coming from the exhaust - plus a nice rumble on start up - but I just want to see if anyone who has changed the filter to a performance one has noticed this sound at all?
  13. YUP .... top of the wheel well .... if you run your hand up the inside of the fender there is a big buckle in the metal right at the top ... i'll get a pic tomorrow and post it ... so odd
  14. just my added thought ..... my '12 R/T has also had its fair shares of issues .... it seems to like to be in the shop at least once a month. My brake service was due at 35,000, had that done and everything checked out "GREAT!" ...... 3,000kms later, front pads and rotors absolutely shot ! .... We raised hell with the dealer and got absolutely no where, they were flat out rude ... contacted Chrysler Canada and they were really great with helping us !! .... after the dealer flat out told us there was "nothing they can do" about the brakes, even after I brought up HOW can they go from "GREAT!" to being shot and needing replacement in less than 3,000kms ?? .... Chrysler Canada called them and laid down the law with this crummy stealership and 3 days later I had my R/T booked in to have the brakes replaced. While it's still in nearly monthly (latest was replacing BOTH drivers side windows ... never had to do that to any vehicle ive ever owned) Good luck ! .... Chrysler Canada will do whats right ... they came through for me.
  15. that's the same as mine now ... rear pass door ... lol ... ohhhhhhh our DJ's keep us guessing ! lol ... we have a 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid as well and it is used as a daily hwy commuter (80,000kms on it already) ... and it has NEVER been at the dealer for anything more than routine maintenance .... its kind of a running joke in our house now that my DJ has its "monthly appointment" ... seems shes in the dealer at LEAST once a month for some issue or another.
  16. While cleaning my R/T the other day, I was sitting while cleaning the rims up and noticed something. On the inside lip of the pass. side front fender Ive noticed what appears to be a buckle in the metal. Its at the top of the wheel well right infront of the bolt/pin that holds the fender to the vehicle. Doesn't appear to be damage, upon further inspection its totally painted, no chipping or peeling ... but its a very noticeable "bump" in the metal ... I have no idea how I've missed this in the 14 mths of owning her but its there. I brought it up to my dealer while I was in for the windows to be replaced and he was much more alarmed than even I was .... his concern, which I never even thought of, its that water/salt can easily get into that bend and just sit there ... even through a usual carwash it wouldn't spray out that part so his worry was salt/water getting in there and causing premature rusting at that spot. He's made a big note on my account for the bodyshop to check it all out the next time Im in for servicing .... Anyone else notice anything like this?? -- I'll try to get a picture of it and post it to show exactly what Im talking about.
  17. I've been curious about the same thing .... I want to try plastidipping my chrome clads to a matte black .... after everything Ive researched, Im positive it wont cause damage, infact I believe it will protect them .... my concern is how well the plastidip will hold up ? ... don't want it to start peeling and flaking after a week or two of highway driving too and from work .... suppose theres only one way to find out eh? ...
  18. Had an interesting repair done yesterday. I have a very slow power drivers side window and both windows screeched when they were put up or down. Took to dealer in town 2 weeks ago and they determined that something was in the rubber window trim that was actually causing etching in the glass. Dealer in town ordered new window sills, both drivers side windows fully replaced ..... just seemed like such an odd repair.-- - now that those windows are quiet, I can hear the pass. side does it slightly as well .....
  19. I understand and agree with some points you've made, and I do consider you one of the gurus on here as far as towing as you obviously have many years of experience towing all sorts of campers and travel trailers. Our Rockwood is 2730lbs, than with two adults and two large suitcases in the back Im sure we're just a tad over the 3000lb range ... I was just stating that there did not seem to be any issue whatsoever in the capabilities of the R/T .... would I tow anything heavier than our current Rockwood? absolutely not simply because even I know we're at the limits of what our vehicles can do ... We do plan on trading in our R/T for a Gr.Cherokee Diesel in 2 years so towing will no longer be an issue. No offence meant so I hope not was taken
  20. being a nurse, I can assure you that not only my own, but also public safety is of utmost importance to me. If we had began towing our camper with the R/T and it didn't "feel right" ... I can assure you that I would be turning around and heading back home. With the brake controller as well as a weight distribution hitch and plain old common sense I feel the Journey, equipped properly, will have no problem towing our camper for many years to come without jeopardizing my safety or anyone else on the road for that matter ..... Not that its much to compare, but growing up, my family drove an 85 LeBaron (the talking car) with the little 2.2 engine and it hauled our 87 Lextra tent trailer all over the west coast and through the Rocky Mountains numerous times a year for 18 years ... all this with 3 kids in the back seat, and no such thing as a brake controller on it whatsoever and that LeBaron never required any work or breakdowns as a result of towing the old steel box on wheels. .... While I understand you're a towing guru, you're right, its my vehicle ... am I going to tow a 26ft, 8000lb travel trailer with it?? Hell no ... even I know what level of stupidity that is .... but towing in an acceptable range between 2000 and 3500lbs (properly equipped again I state due to the common issue of crappy brakes) there should not and be any issues whatsoever and we look forward to many more camping road trips with our R/T .......... If I had given in and listened to the "experts" on here than I would've continued with the fear of "I'm going to blow my entire engine system within a block" and would never had had the chance to experience just how awesome of a holiday vehicle the Journey really is.
  21. I was just going to post a thread asking about straight piping my 2012 R/T ...... your BT sounds incredible!! ... me coming from a modified car scene, I had all sorts of different exhausts and "fart cans" on my old cars ... with the R/T I've been dieing to do something with the exhaust and was hoping a simple straight pipe would do the trick ..... Im thinking its as easy as cut off the factory mufflers, weld on pipes and add nice tips ..... am I missing something here? Not going for the big V8 truck sound, but something that will give my R/T alittle bit of a rumble ... something that I can HEAR the 283 horsies ..... So am I wrong in thinking its as simple as cutting off and welding on just straight pipes ???? or is there more to it ?
  22. Im actually having an interesting problem, my guage is on E .... it says "Low Fuel" on the info screen, but no fuel light or chime ....... seems odd to me, first time this has happened.
  23. Our vacation we just got back from ... SW Ontario to CapeCod Mass. -- 4500kms round trip and the R/T was just AWESOME !
