  1. We just got back from a camping trip from SW Ontario to Cape Cod Mass. -- 4500kms roundtrip -- pulling our new 2800lb 12ft box Rockwood tent trailer. Other than the back end alil saggy (weight distribution hitch will solve that), my 2012 AWD R/T pulled that camper like a freaking dream !! .... we were somewhat nervous about it after reading everything on here but everything was perfect and took it very very easy for the first few hours, but once we settled into the grove of things everything went just awesome ! .... even going through the mountains in Vermont, the R/T didn't miss a beat ! Keep in mind we weren't gunning the engine, only had the cruise on through NY state where its mostly flat, through the mountains we stuck to the right hand lane, but our R/T just amazed us ! ..... we kept an eye on ALL the temps (trans, oil pressure, engine etc) ... none of them moved and SOMEHOW we averaged 11.3 L/100Kms Don't know why everyone is so worried about towing with their Journey after 2011. I know the manual says 2500 but with 2 adults, our luggage and our camper Im sure our GVW was 3000lbs+ .... and not a single problem at all ... have fun fishin' !
  2. Perfect, thanks for your info ..... essentially the tire did fly up initially, it just happened to land directly in his lane. No he wasnt able to get the info from the truck, traffic was heavy so there wasnt even opportunity to check the damages until the first available off ramp.
  3. Hi All .... so I have a question about insurance I hope someone can help me out with. Last week while travelling on the 401 between Cobourg and Toronto, my fiance hit a truck tire with the front end of our 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid. From the details of the event, the crash was unavoidable, he was travelling in the fastlane, car behind him and van beside him .... the pieces of the truck tire bounced off the vehicle infront of him a lane over and went right into the front passenger corner of our car. -- no opportunity to swerve or break as the barrier wall was to his left, a car behind him and a van beside him ..... no choice but to hit the tire at 110km/h. The bumper is smacked up, clips are broken, foglight lense smashed out and the front lip spoiler is gone entireley (which we just paid $300 for a week before as the first one broke off this past winter) So heres our question, both in our 30's, never had a claim before and excellent driving records. The bumper were told by London Kia will be $1900 alone as the Hybrids have a unique bumper thats not the same as the regular Optimas, plus the $300 lip, paint labour etc etc .... we're looking at a hefty repair bill. Will our rates go up if we make the claim and pay the $500 deductable? London Kia is advising us that if we put it through insurance than it of course will show up when we are ready to trade the car in and will therefore reduce its trade in value ... we plan on keeping the car a few more years as its just an awesome car all around .... I also read somewhere that there are two types of claims you can make ... either the accident was "avoidable" or the accident was "unavoidable" ... one, your rates go up, the other they remain the same. Can someone shine some light on this for us? We're trying to decide how to proceed with this and currently driving around with a jacked up bumper that just looks horrid Thanks in advance !
  4. okay than .... I will be calling them first thing Monday morning than as I want ALL the paperwork and work completed for my records as I know these guys will take any opportunity to screw me over. I must say though however, I mustve just become accustomed to the shitty way the DJ had been driving, or it has never driven properly. It is truly like driving a brand new vehicle ..... NO shake in the steering whatsoever, smooth braking, also, before I just thought it was a heavy vehicle as to the reason that when I took my foot off the gas it would slow down rather quickly ...... now however it seems to coast like nobodies business ...... Ive truly fallen in love with my DJ all over again ..... and I believe that perhaps the bloody brakes were not fitted properly or slightly seized as to why it would cause such heat to warp the rotors so quickly as well as wear down the pads so fast .......... seems alil suspicious however that Finch did not see this ... or if they did, figured they could make even MORE money off me soon after my brake inspection last month knowing full well that I was damaging the brakes so badly.
  5. Well folks .... just got home from the dealership (Finch Chrysler in London ON) .... the front pads and rotors were replaced free of charge. Apparently they don't give a "you know what" until Customer Service calls the Service Manager directly to ask wtf ? ...... As I stated in my earlier post, after the incredibly rude and dismissal attitude I received lastweek when I was in there for this issue, we contacted Chrysler Canada and were given a case #. Wouldn't you know it, phone call on Wednesday from the Service Manager himself apologizing and the truck was booked in for 1pm today. Due to our experience with both the service advisors, we've been told to deal directly with the Service Manager from here on out .... let me tell you though, those same service managers were ESPECIALLY nice and talkative to me today (except for the one who we complained directly about ... he wouldn't even make eye contact). We're not sure what it is exactly, perhaps its Im fairly "young" to be driving a brand new R/T (30, but I look a lot younger) ... at least they know now that we mean business and to stop effing around with us. Question though, and perhaps DodgeCAcares can answer this for me. When the truck was done and pulled outside, I was just given the keys and told to have a nice day .... no paperwork or anything to take home ...... should I have been given some sort of paper work ? Also, the pads and rotors now have a 12 mth parts and labour warranty starting from today correct? even if I wasn't given paperwork it will be in the system ?? ......... I just don't want a big battle with them in 10mths when Im having the same problem ....
  6. WELL ! .... had my appointment today for the brakes and let me tell you, what an incredibly insulting and awful experience with "Finch Chrysler Dodge" in London Ontario. !! I dropped off the DJ at 2 ... they called me by 2:45 and told me my front pads were at less than 30% pad left and my rotors were horribly warped ! .... REALLY!? ... I have 36000kms on the truck and I JUST did that stupid $300 brake service 3000kms ago ... the shaking and pulsating started almost immediately afterwards, due to my work schedule, today was the soonest I could get it looked at. ANYWAYS ... So I was told there is no type of warranty or anything for the brakes whatsoever. I than told him how it doesn't seem right that the brakes are shot and the truck is JUST over a year old .... he said it was due to me "driving it" ..... (WHAT?!) .... This part really gets me, aside from him being totally unprofessional and unhelpful, I brought up this forum and about how many other DJ owners are having the same problem ... he actually laughed in my face and shook his head saying "and do you believe EVERYTHING you read on the internet???" ... he than pushed for me to pay for new pads and rotors today .... I declined and said I was going to another dealership .... I will NEVER step foot back into Finch Chrysler Dodge Jeep ... they have totally lost my business and anyone else I know. I took the truck 2 dealerships down, to "SouthWest Dodge" ... the lady was very helpful (Jean) ... she looked up my vin number and said unfortunately there is no extended warranty for the brake system ... (which is odd, because when I bought the truck I was told there WAS an extended warranty for the brakes .... ) .... So while SouthWest was looking at my truck, my fiancé called Chrysler Canada and complain about the brakes needing replacement already on a vehicle that is simply a highway commuter AS WELL as file a complaint about Finch ... (this isn't the first problems we've had with that dealership ... everytime its in there and I bring something up, Im told its my fault or "that's the way it is" .. ie: clunking transmission, sat radio cutting in and out, drivers headlight going on and off - southwest fixed that one for me that last time Finch pissed me off) SouthWest came back and said the same thing Finch said ... the pads aren't as bad as Finch said, but they are low (40-50%) and the front rotors are warped (I knew that) ... what they are going to do however, because of my shitty time with Finch, they are going to make a "goodwill gesture" and replace the brakes completely under warranty and I pay the deductible of $100.00 .......... that makes me happy I guess ..... its better than nothing ... and really, they are going out of their way to offer this as I haven't really had any business with SouthWest up until now except for a minor headlight issue that Finch couldn't figure out. We are going to wait until Monday/Tuesday, as our complaint with Chrysler Canada is being escalated and we were given a case # ..... so we'll see what the crooks at Finch come back with, if anything ... otherwise I will have the brakes replaced at SouthWest for the $100.00 -- if Im not mistaken, once the brakes are replaced, they have a 1 year warranty on parts and labour? ... therefore WHEN I have this issue in the next 12 mths again, they will be replaced under that warranty?? All in all ... a very long and frustrating day dealing with that ridiculous dealership yet again .... I will never ever recommend "Finch Chrysler Dodge Jeep" in London, Ontario to ANYONE .... horrible, just horrible! I'll keep ya'll posted nextweek what comes back with our case #
  7. My bill of sale lists it as a "truck" and my insurance does the same ..... seeing how our other car is a '12 Optima Hybrid, we refer to my DJR/T as the "truck" ...
  8. have the same stupid lil rust spots all over my BRIGHT WHITE DJR/T
  9. thanks everyone for your input ..... glad to know Im not the only one or that Im being picky about this issue. Im going to take it back to the dealer and have them look at it .... if they try to do their usual "pass the buck" than I'll take it to another dealer for a 2nd opinion.
  10. oh ... to add to this quickly .... at low speeds right before the wheels stop, theres a very loud "grabbing" sound .... as if the brakes are wet ... don't know if this is related or not?
  11. I've had my '12 DJR/T for less than a year now. Current kms are 34,000. Last oilchange I was told I was due for a $200 + tax "brake service" .... through some arguing with the dealership (as I was told at the point of sale that 2 years of brake service would be included due to the smaller brakes), the dealership paid for "this one" but Im on the hook for the rest of them ... which is b.s as far as Im concerned. ANYWAYS ....... problem is this, immediately after the brake service was done and I was told everything "checked out great", I've had a vibration in the steering wheel, esp when slowing down from highway speeds .... the brake service was done a month ago and this shaking steering wheel is getting worse and worse, it was NOT there prior to the service. Could this be a warped rotor already?? ... my DJ is only used to get to and from work on the highway (we have a hybrid we use for everything else) ...... Would this be covered under the warranty or anything? I don't want to go back to the dealership (Finch Chrysler in London, ON) as they love to pass the buck back onto the owner, so I know they will tell me its "normal" or that its my "fault" ...... suggestions ?
  12. Okay ... I think the computer just had to have some time to sort things out again. Since filling up the last time Im now back to normal, if not BETTER than normal fuel mileage. I nearly had a stroke the other day when I looked down on the hwy and noticed I was averaging 7.5 !!!! - 90km/h with the cruise on. Since than with my commute of mostly highway with some city (St.Thomas to London everynight) Im back to my usual 11.5 or so. -- WHEW! --
  13. So I think I jinxed myself on another topic when I commented that my '12 DJR/T gets "great gas mileage". I just had the Journey into the dealer on Friday for its first oil change as well as to figure out why the tow package wiring didn't work. Long story short, they said it had something to do with my computer not recognizing that it has the tow package so they had to "fudge" the VIN# and tada! they work!! HOWEVER ... Since Friday my fuel mileage has been horrible! Typically I average 11.9 or so on the screen (hwy to and from work with some city) - I cannot get the truck any lower than 14.9 now! I just had to fill the truck up again tonight on the way into work - checked my trip odo and I only managed 410kms to that tank ..... I always get between 540 - 580 easily. What could the dealership have done???
  14. I've just noticed the same problem with my '12 R/T - the system "whistles" if its on and say the moonroof is open to VENT ... or I have a window down - doesnt matter if its on vents or defogging the windshield. Not really a horrible bother but kind of annoying for a brand new "truck" as I call it .... its going to the dealer this friday for some issues so I'll have to remember to mention it.
  15. congrats! I have the '12 DJ R/T - absolutly LOVE it ... couple of minor issues its going back to the dealer this friday for but all in all I absolutly love it! .... best part that I just realized today is that the V6 AWD gets the exact same fuel mileage as my Mazda6 2.3L ... same size tank too ... So we get the benefits of a V6 "SUV" with the fuel mileage of a 4 cyl ....... either that, or my Mazda6 was just horrible on gas.
  16. YUP!!! saw em ... loved em ... bought em !! LOL ! .... THANKS !!! - plus I got 6% off for some reason and free delivery. Now Im eagerly anticipating these ... the wait will kill me.
  17. welcome ! -- I've had my '12 R/T AWD since July - absolutly LOVE IT !!!! - bright white with the black leather interior. Im also just down the road in St.Thomas, work in London and ironically, moving TO INGERSOL in the coming months once our house sells. Im also looking to do minor mods ... really interested in a CAI - already have upgraded headlights and a nice hitch installed ..... dont wanna "over do" it. see ya around !
  18. I would as I absolutly LOVE the look and vision HID's give off - however - I had put HID's in stock housings in one of my old cars and while I could see pretty decent I was more or less a menace on the road to anyone coming at me at night as the light was scattered rather than directed with projectors (which I later obtained - Chev Cavalier) - wish there were more aftermarket exterior accessories for our DJ's --- ie: chrome bug guard/stone guard whatever you wanna call it - rather than the run of the mill black smoked ones.
  19. As the subject says ... I'm hoping to upgrade my stock foglights on my 2012DJ R/T to LED's ... I've read a couple places I need load resistors on them (possibly) - I always thought you just needed resistors if you were replacing signal lights to prevent hyper flash .... Anyone know if I do infact need to put load resistors on if Im just using the LED's for my fogs?? thanks!
  20. sorry to revive this thread ... but curious if anyone has located these? ... are you talking about the ones similar to the once used on police vehicles?? .. I had that brainstorm the other night while laying in bed (yes, rather than pay attention to my spouse ... I think about my R/T ... lol)
  21. I would say, depending on the day .. it could cut out or "skip" a dozen times an hour ... or could just be a few times a day. It is a daily thing though. I'm also noticing in the past few days that my doors seem to rattle with any kind of bass (bass is turned about mid-way ... not MAXED) ... the rattle seems to be coming from the top of the door panal near the lock (not the handle lock .. the pop up lock) on both front doors.
  22. hate to revive from the dead ...... but im also curious about this as well ... I have the 19" chromies and will be looking for winter tires and rims in the coming weeks for our salty Ontario winters - I was hoping to get a nice aggressive chunky winter tire to compliment my AWD.
  23. I've been having some issues with my stereo in my 2012 DJ R/T with the upgraded stereo system (not sure if that has anything to do with it) It seems to constantly "skip" or cut out - doesnt matter if im listening to the Sat Radio, AM/FM, or with my cell phone plugged in - at first it was a quirk ... now its just flat out annoying ! Is there a software upgrade or something I need to have done to resolve this issue? Is anyone else having the same problem?
  24. craaaaappppp -- i live in St.Thomas but work and bought my 2012 R/T in London ..... hope my brakes are OKAY. Any info on the new Journeys? as in, if they've fixed this issue of burning through brakes so fast? .... Ive never had to replace the brakes on any car with the exception of the Taurus I had in highschool ..... The Journey Ive bought was a DEMO driven by the sales mgr, is currently has 11,000kms on it .................... now this makes me worry
  25. thanks rolly and AstralRT !! and yes, rolly, I test drove an '09 Journey FIRST before anything else and I honestly found myself comparing everyother SUV/CUV to the Journey and none just felt "right" - Ford Edge AND Freestyle - Suzuki XJL - Ford Escape - Lincoln MK(something) - Dodge Nitro (too big and lumbery) - Jeeps - Kia Sportage and the Sorento than when I got in the 2012 Journey R/T that was it ... I knew right away ! ---- I pick her up Friday morning at 9am !!!! --- cannot freakin' wait!!! ---- cleaning out the Mazda6 this afternoon getting ready to say goodbye to her.
