  1. OK, so I haven't owned a Journey for almost 2 years and I have 1 each of the 2 8" display radios sitting on the shelf, taking up space.

The RE2 is the non-Nav radio and the RB5 is the Nav radio.

Located in Montreal (Canada), I COULD ship from Champlain, NY if someone in the US wants one or the other.

They were both tested when I got them and I assume (but cannot in good faith guarantee) that they are both working today - but they certainly ought to be.

Make a reasonable offer for one or for both and you can have the factory nav.  The TGM is the version that works with the XM traffic subscription if you want real time traffic on the display.

If I can't get enough money to justify the time and trouble involved they get recycled.

I'm posting this on the Journey group on Facebook as well.

Am I missing something??  I dont have a back up camera or wheel controls for voice.  I saw something about needing the TGM module but also confused because some say thats the radoio... HELP!!!!!

You don't get Bluetooth from the radio, that HASW a module, located under the dash and above the steering column.  But unless you have right steering wheel and clockspring it won't do you much good - you also need the buttons.

As to not seeing the navigation icon?  You don't have a navigation radio.

So I have a question... I have a 2012 Journey it had the smaller 4" display with Sirius XM on it.  I went on ebay and I purchased a 8.4" display, Auto Heater controller and the Radio(unit behind the heater controller).  It was listed on Ebay that it was a Navigation unit and showed the pictures of the Phone and Nav icon on the screen.  When I got it and installed it I dont have those on my screen (Phone & Nav icon).  I made sure the numbers matched on the listing to what I got and they do.  I have tried 3 "radios" so far and none have the nav icon.

Am I missing something??  I dont have a back up camera or wheel controls for voice.  I saw something about needing the TGM module but also confused because some say thats the radoio... HELP!!!!!

Let's start with the quick one;  The radio is contained within the TGM.  The TGM also handles the CD (DVD in the Nav radios), backup camera, heated seats and steering wheel, interface to the Blurtooth module as well as the air conditioning.

There are 2 basic versions of the TGM for the 8.4" display - one with Nav and one without.  There is nothing beyond the unlocked TGM (and the satellite antenna) to get the Nav version of the TGM to work - as I wrote, if you didn't have automatic air conditioning that feature won't work either.  No feature codes need be enabled to get the Navigation running (you DO need the feature codes enabled if you want to use a backup camera).

So, the only obvious answers as to why your unit is not displaying the navigation screen with any particular TGM are most likely that it either isn't a nav-equipped TGM, the Nav board inside might not be working (though I believe that the entire RB5 radio would lock up at the initialise screen if that was the case) or there is something strange in your wiring harness (which I doubt, because as far as I know all of the navigation functionality is contained within the TGM itself.

Did you have to replace the screen also?  I upgraded my whole radio from a 4.3 to 8.3 and was told it had navigation and it doesnt.  Can I just add the Nav radio and be good or do I have to change the 8.4 display again for the Nav radio?

    Thanks

If you have a functioning 8.4" display it doesn't have to be changed to install the RB5 TGM.

Note that if you upgraded from the 4.2" display and did not have Siruius/XM radio and did not install the satellite antenna (which provides for both GPS and Sirius/XM) you will need to do so before the NAV will wor,

  5. I no longer have a Journey (which is why I have my spare RB5 nav and my original RE2 non-nav 8.2" TGMs for sale), but I never had issues updating the mapping using the methods found here and elsewhere on the web - it IS a bit picky about the USB key you use, mind you.

And to confirm what was posted above, yes, if you are adding a backup camera you DO have to get the sales code enabled for it to work.  Navigation does NOT need activation, though the TGM (the radio/nav/touchscreen controller) requires an unlock code to make the new radio work in your vehicle.

I just went through this a few weeks ago. All the ebay seller needed was a pic of the label on the radio. He needs the part and serial numbers. I did not give him a vin. Not from the donor nor the vehicle it went into. I believe the dealership wants them to cya in case it was stolen and they get dragged into a legal fight. Their software may even require it but the pin is based on part and serial number. Not the vin.

I recommend having both vin's just in case but do not stress if you do not have the donor vin.

To confirm, the unlock code generated by the dealer's software requires the VIN (and the buyer surely knows the VIN of his own vehicle).  It is NOT based on the radio part number, but rather the serial number and the VIN of the vehicle it is being installed in.

I have heard that there is a backdoor that lets certain people get the unlock code based solely on the radio s/n, But the part number never enters into it.

As far as vin locked if i recall the head unit has to be unlocked by dealership or with special tool. It's to prevent theft so you need the VIN it came out of.

Actually, to generate the unlock code you need the radio serial number and the VIN of the vehicle it is being INSTALLED in.

Has anyone found out how to “fix” the Bluetooth issue where it doesn’t connect or pair. The whole Bluetooth function it basically unusable. If I press Bluetooth as the audio it won’t do anything, it won’t let me pair, NOTHING. I did see a post about the unplugging the fuse but that’ll only last until I cut the car off. I’ve even bought a new fuse for it.

You need a new BT module.

  9. I had commented on your post on Facebook.

You got a pull from a scrap yard - and it was an ape who pulled it out.

I happened to have a nav/RB5 radio (though none of the rest) sitting on my shelf that I bought as a spare for when I had my Journey (I've moved on).  But because I had the spare my radio never gave me ay problems and it still sits there today.

In any case, you should return the garbage you got and get your money back.

  10. Map updating depends on which version of the RB5 you have.

If it is the one that uses the CTP13-CTP19 firmware versions you can follow the instructions here:

    https://www.chargerforums.com/threads/how-to-map-update-on-uconnect-ctp13-2013-2014.236649/

Instructions seem to have last been updated last year - you'd need to find the current versions of the mapping files, vut they are still being updated by Garmin.

Good luck with your new purchase. Lots of Journey owners moving on lately. It’s funny how people will over pay a dealer and get no service records.  Private sale gives more information and no middle man commission to inflate price. Have never understood it.

Did you go awd this time? Being in the nord makes it pretty useful some times. Quebec ev rebates make sense too if it matches your driving parameters.

If course people are moving on - the model is out of production and vehicles are getting older.  It is a declining market.

I went with a high end SUV, yes, AWD.  I have opted (possibly foolishly because of the resale value) not to go electric, though the model I decided on won't be available as an EV until 2024 - the Quebec rebates are only on sales taxes and EVs are actually ,more expensive to own and operate for the average user over the first 80-160k or more kilometers than are gas vehicles, rebate taken into account.  However I don't drive all that many KMs so gas cost is less of a factor

  12. This has been sitting on my shelf for a few years - I bought it as a spare because of the reports of navigation radio failures.  I tested it and then put it on the shelf and, of course never suffered the problems.  If you have the RE2 (8.4" without navigation) it is a 5 minute plug and play installation - you WILL need an unlock code which can be had from your dealer or can apparently be found online.

I have US$800 plus the cost of shipping invested in it - I know I'm not going to get back what I spent, so I am open to REASONABLE offers.

Contact me with a message if you are interested.

  13. Well, I traded it in since, in spite of extensive advertising no one seemed to want it.  The dealer shorted me on the trade and resold it for $15K Canadian.  The vehicle was a creampuff, in amazing condition, complete with warranty. I hope the buyer enjoys it.

I have winter tires on steel rims available as well as an RB5 navigator radio module for sale which I will be listing shortly.

Even though I no longer own a Journey I will still lurk from time to time.

  14. After 10 years and 2 extremely reliable Journeys I've traded in the Crossroad and taken delivery of an SUV from an Asian manufacturer.

I'm not deactivating my membership, and I will continue to post answers to questions when I feel it to be appropriate, but I won't be posting any new observations or comparisons between the old and the new vehicles.

I do still have a navigation (RB5) and a regular (RE2) radio sitting on my shelf.  Make offers - I have a lot of money in the RB5, and I know I am not going to get back what I spent, but lowballs will be ignored.

My winter wheels are listed on FB Marketplace in Montreal as well as Kijiji and Varagesale.

When all this is gone there will be nothing in my garage to remind me of my time with the DJ.  But there'll be this forum for the foreseeable future.

    Happy Halloween to everyone.
