  1. Hadn't thought of that. I'll check that out tomorrow.
  2. The plot thickens... This appears to be the correct dipstick for my application. 2014 R/T, 3.6ltr, 6-speed auto, AWD. What am I missing?
  3. So I'm a 35-year professional mechanic. This is the first vehicle I have owned that had a dealer service plan (long story and it wasn't my choice). I just completed my first DIY oil change. I used a factory oil filter and 6 quarts of Valvoline full synthetic. Once I was done I checked the oil and it is reading 1.25 quarts low!?! Has anyone run into this problem? Do I have the wrong dipstick? Do I need anothe quart of oil? The vehicle has never been serviced anywhere but our dealership. Sadly it has not been a satisfying experience but this is pretty weird. The part that concerns me is that I have no idea when this might have started. If I do in fact have the wrong dipstick, we've been running more than a quart overfull since whenever it was swapped. Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for some verification that I'm the only 2014 Journey R/T owner that 'supposedly' has a 7.25 quart oil sump... Thanks for any advice you may have. -Andy
  4. Well shoot. I see now that I missed a sentence in your original post. Sorry for suggesting what you've already done. I guess I would look toward what 2late4u suggesting. Poor connection, bad ground, chafed wire, in the injection/coil trigger harnesses. -Andy
  5. From my experience, a single-cylinder misfire that only exists above idle is not likely to be mechanical. Idle is the most challenging condition for a non-race engine. Most misfire producing mechanical problems will be at their worst under idle conditions. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's not likely. In my opinion, this is probably a fuel injector flaking out or a secondary (high voltage) ignition problem. I am not specifically familiar with the coil/wire/boot setup on the 2.4ltr. Is it possible to swap any of these other parts from cylinder to cylinder like you did with the spark plug? If so, I would try that and see where it leads you. Good luck and keep us posted. -Andy
  6. Our DJ (2014 3.6ltr 6spd AWD R/T) has a low end (crank, bearings, flywheel) knock during hot idle. It is very light but definitely not a valve train noise. It disappears as soon as you open the throttle at all. It hasn't gotten any worse in at least 15k miles. Our current (worthless) dealer claims that they haven't heard it. I haven't pushed the issue with them because I'm not sure I want them fixing it. We are getting ready to take it in to a new dealer for the first time and I want to know if anyone has had experience with this type of problem. For whatever it's worth, I have been a professional mechanic for about 35 years. I am out of work currently due to a Crohn's flare and Psoriatic Arthritis or I would give it a much more thorough looking over before it goes in. I know what I am hearing (not a valve tap) just not what might be causing it. If I had to guess without tearing it apart I would say it was: a crankshaft thrust bearing issue, a toque converter/flexplate issue, a harmonic balancer problem. Anyway, any information is helpful. If you have a suggestion I'm all ears. Thanks in advance -Andy

  9. Thanks. This gives me hope for my future relationship with Dodge.
  10. I couldn't agree more. We primarily use Waze on our phones anyway. My parents speced and bought this car so it wasn't my choice. That being said, they paid a fortune for the options that they chose AND for the extended warranty/service plan so the dealer should take care of the parts that are covered. There's a dealer farther north in a more "country" type area. They have a very good reputation so we'll be giving them a shot. We really like the car but, being a 35-year professional mechanic, it does have more widgets and thingamajigs than I am really comfortable with. Too many high dollar proprietary electronics to keep up with over the years IMHO.
  11. $675 for "Brake Diagnostics" is pretty suspect. It doesn't take but 10 minutes to tell if your brakes are worn out.
  12. We've had the sender done as well. Also had a power steering issue that ended up with the dealer replacing the entire system. (Rack, pump, reservoir, hoses, etc.) Seemed a little overkill to me but it was under warranty. We have also had some issues with the nav system. It was recently replaced and seems to be fine now. Most of the issues were getting the run around at our local dealer. I'll be taking it to a dealer several towns over from now on. I just don't tolerate people lying when something this important is at stake.
  13. My name is Andy. I am a happily married father of 3 nearly grown kids. I am currently not working due to a significant medical development. We got our Journey from my folks in September. It's a 2014 r/t. I'm a lifelong professional mechanic and this is my first vehicle with a dealer service plan. It has certainly been a little bit of a challenge. I look forward to learning about other's experiences with their vehicles and hopefully helping others too.
